Starblind Lyrics - Iron Maiden

Review The Song (5)

Take my eyes, the things I've seen
In this world coming to an end.
My reflection fades, I'm weary
Of these earthly bones and skin.

You may pass through me and
Leave no trace, I have
No mortal face.
Solar winds are whispering,
You may hear me call.

We can shed our skins and swim
Into the darkened void beyond.
We will dance among the world
That orbit stars that aren't our sun.

All the oxygen that trapped us in
A carbon spider's web.
Solar winds are whispering, you
May hear the sirens of the dead.
Let the elders to their parley
Meant to satisfy our lust.
Leaving Damacles still hanging
Over all their promised trust.

Walk away from freedoms offered
By the jailors in their cage.
Step into the light, startripping
Over mortals in their rage.

Starblind with sun, the
Stars are one.
We are the light that brings
The end of night.
Starblind with sun, the
Stars are one.
We are with the Goddess
Of the sun tonight.

The preacher loses face
With Christ.
Religion's cruel device is gone.
Empty flesh and hollow bones
Make pacts of love but die alone.
The crucible of pain will forge the
Blanks of sin, begin again.
You are free to choose a life to live
Or one that's left to lose.

Virgins in the teeth of God are
Meat and drink to geed the damned.
You may pass through me and I
Will feel the life that you live less.
Step into my light, startripping.
We will rage against the night.

Walk away from comfort offered
By your citizens of death.

Starblind with sun, the
Stars are one.
We are the light that brings
The end of night.
Starblind with sun, the
Stars are one.
We are with the Goddess
Of the sun tonight.

Take my eyes for what I've seen.
I will give my sight to you.
You are free to choose whatever:
Life to live or life to lose.

Whatever God you know,
He knows you better than you
Believe.
In your once and future grave
You'll fall endlessly deceived.

Look into our face reflected in the
Moonglow in your eyes.
Remember you can choose
To look but not to see and
Waste your hours.

You believe you have the time
But I tell you your time is short.
See your past and future, all the
Same, and it cannot be bought.

Starblind with the sun, the
Stars are one.
We are the light that brings
The end of night.
Starblind with sun, the
Stars are one.
We are with the Goddess
Of the sun tonight.

Take my eyes for what I've seen.
I will give my sight to you.
You are free to choose whatever:
Life to live or life to lose.
Whatever God you know,
He knows you better than you
Believe.
In your once and future grave
You'll fall endlessly deceived.

The preacher loses face
With Christ.
Religion's cruel device is gone.
Empty flesh and hollow bones
Make pacts of love but die alone.
The crucible of pain will forge the
Blanks of sin, begin again.
You are free to choose a life to live
Or one that's left to lose.

Interesting... | Reviewer: Rageheart | 4/24/12

I think it's about the lies told to us by the government, and the false allowances they make for religious.
"Leave the elders to their parley/meant to satisfy our lust"
"Walk away from comforts/offered by your citizens of death"
It's about an ancient religion that is no religion.
Some of it is just words for the sake of words.
More later.

It's also about how people always plan to do things later, but they never accomplish them. They plan to practice religion later in life, but they never do.
"You believe you have the time
But I tell you your time is short."
They think they have time, but they must MAKE time. And they never do.

Vain | Reviewer: Raven | 9/27/11

I think that this song is talking about how vain, careless and close minded people are becoming.
"Whatever God you know, He knows you better than you believe. In your once & future grave, You'll fall endlessly deceived."

And when he's talking about the "empty flesh & hallow bones, make pacts of love and die alone"

I think that they're trying to say that even love doesn't mean anything to people and that they just get married to be married. Or be "faithful" to god, just have that status.

"The preacher loses face with christ. Religion's cruel device is gone. Empty flesh and hollow bones. Make pacts of love but die alone. The crucible of pain will forge the blanks of sin, begin again."
You are free to choose a life to live
Or one that's left to lose."

Nonetheless, this song is beautiful and amazing.

Religion and the future of humanity... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/10/10

To me, this song seems to be talking about humanity's future.

This song predicts that eventually, as our knowledge of the unviverse grows, we'll leave Earth to "dance among the world
that orbits stars that aren't our sun." Soon we may be able to enhance or transform our mortal bodies - "We can shed our skins and swim into the darkened void beyond," escaping "all the oxygen that trapped us in a carbon spider's web."
We will "step into the light", using scinece to end sickness and dying. We will journey deep into the universe, perhaps augmenting our bodies and minds so much as to become god-ike figures with extraordingary intelligence and almost supernatural powers. We'll be one with "the Goddess of the sun."

The possiblitiy of exploring the universe, achieving immortality, and becoming "the light that brings the end of night" as this song seems to describe is an amazing thought, but it's also quite terrifying in some respects. By transcending Earth to dance among the stars, humanity essentially acknowledges that human religion is false and that there is no inherent meaning to life - "Empty flesh and hollow bones
make pacts of love, but die alone."

By abandoning Christianity and religion in general, we can begin our journey into the endless universe. We no longer have to bare religion's cruel device, but we also have to accept the crushing loneliness and meaninglessness of existence without a higher power. We are free to act and define ourselves without the restrictions of an absolute moral code or divine being , but we also "walk away from freedoms offered by the jailors in their cage" - that is, the freedom of knowing that life has meaning and death is not just the end.

A world without objective truth or reason to live is a scary thought. Yet, I believe that even in the absence of this meaning \, we have the freedom and the capacity to create purpose for ourselves.

"You are free to choose a life to live, or one that's left to lose..."

Great song Good message | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/7/10

The interpretation of the song was difficult.

With lyrics like:
"Whatever God you know,
He knows you better than you
Believe.
In your once and future grave
You'll fall endlessly deceived."
"Religion's cruel device is gone"

-- Seems to indicate, that you may pray all you want and subscribe to any religion---but if there is a true God, you may be surprised to find he's nothing as you thought he was. You will be deceived if you think that God would send prophets/books that are contradictory and imperfect as man is.
