A Different perspective | Reviewer: Love this song | 3/13/13
I see this as a song of regret for love lost. The singer romanced the senorita, seems rather innocently - kisses and smiles - and yes, lied when he said he'd return.
Then he had deep regrets, and realizing that he had made a mistake, returned, only to find the senorita at the altar - the mission bells (wedding bells?) told him not to stay.
The Chris Isaac version doesn't sound upbeat to me, at all, but like a ballad of lost love, as I said above.
Regarding "mañana" vs. "manjanna" - in certain parts of Central America, and perhaps in Mexico when this song was written, the "y" sound of the ñ is pronounced as a zh or j sound.

I remember this song from when it was popular. But looking over the lyrics again, I'm appalled by how the upbeat melody seems to celebrate how the story teller skipped off leaving his jilted lover at the altar.

mañana means tomorrow in spanish. the lady was spanish that's why frank sinatra uses the spanish word to say tomorrow.
