Review The Song (3)Print the Lyrics
In the here and the now I wait,
down among the young and the old.
With the moon and the ground I play,
with my children in my home.
This is for the daughters and sons,
of forgotten ones.
learning how to stand.
This is for the innocent unknowns,
buried in the sand.

Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Till you're weary.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.

From the crack in the blackness I wake,
it's getting closer every night.
In my city the playground is a battleground,
between the wrong and the right.
I could run as free as a child,
I was safe and wild,
naked and unarmed.
Now I'm grown and safe in my home,
but some will never stop.

Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Till you're weary.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.

The open mouth of the city swallowed up the town,
with that same old concrete that I still walk down.
And it seems they put a shine on this place when I was young,
maybe I just don't see it now.

Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Till I'm weary.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.

Hey.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from the sound of a gun.
Running from, running from the sound of a gun.

it's in drown me slowly | Reviewer: hankie | 8/6/2008

The open mouth of the city swallowed up the town,
with that same old concrete that I still walk down.
And it seems they put a shine on this place when I was young,
maybe I just don't see it now.

This is sang in the background in the end of the song drown me slowly, not the worm. Just thought I'd let ya know, its pretty cool

and of course, audioslave is the greatest

yay | Reviewer: Fenyx | 1/8/2008

this song is one of Audioslave's best, i love the guitar intro (i have always loved Tom Morello's work) and this song rox.

Its weird though, cuz if u listen close enough to one of the songs on "Out Of Exile," i think its The Worm, but if u listen close enough, you can hear an undervoice, singing the "the open mouth of the city......" part. its kinda cool. and the awesome part is, its been there the entire time, and ive only heard it after i heard this song... strange......

I love this entire album. The only problem i have with this album is the fact that it kinda forced Audioslave to disband. cause Cornell didn't want Audioslave to become politically charged and this album kinda is. it was kind of inevitable because of the rest of the band's origins in Rage Against The Machine, but it is saddening to see a band this great gone...

Chris never sings exactly | Reviewer: Bill | 2/24/2007

Only 3 areas that are a tad off. Cornell seems to alter alot though.
Corrections are:

First chorus start should be;
all Running from the sound of a gun

then

I could run free as a child

and

and it seemed they put a shine on this place when I was young

This is an awesome song for certain, too bad they're done.
