Come back and haunt me
Follow me home
Give me a motive
Swallow me whole
They say I've lost it
What could I know
When I'm but a mockery?
I'm so alone
Sooner of later you'll find out
There's a hole in the wall
Today is ours
Condemned to be free
Free to keep breathing
Free to believe
I look to find you
Down on my knees
Oh God, I believe!
Please help me believe
Sooner or later they'll find out
There's a hole in the wall
Sooner or later you'll find out
That you'll dream to be that small
I'm a believer, help me believe
I gave it all away and lost who I am
I threw it all away
With everything to gain
And I'm taking the leap
With dreams of shrinking
Yeah, dreams of shrinking

Review about Sooner Or Later (Soren's Song) Existential Love Song...Cool! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/7/2007
I think this song is about Soren Keirkegaard, the father of existential philosophy. He was born into an affluent Danish family, he had an oppressively religous father. He was a brilliant intellectual but given to deep melancholy and despair. It is on account of this melancholy that he broke off a long engagement to a rather attractive woman. He believed that existence basically consisted of three stages: the aesthetic, the moral, and the "religious". Each required a certain leap of existence to obtain. To get to the final stage required the popular "leap of faith". Soren believed that the leap of faith characterized how a person would believe in God: with a deep passionate love and devotion but always with a hint of doubt. The character in this song is in deep despair (see vs. 1). The refrain repeats the line "sooner or later you'll find out there's a hole in the wall" symbolizing (I think) the leap of faith. The subject is dreaming of being small enough to queeze (leap) through to the other side, the "religous realm", wherein lies the deep passionate love of God, which he doesn't quite yet knows he needs..."sooner or later" he'll find out.
