It's totally about social disease, not personal. Dream Theater don't picture any display of autism, and they made the song definitely cheerful. I'd rather say 'promising', meantime, it's the only song I like from Six Degrees... You are being pretty bias if you think this song is not supposed to be cheerful. I don't even get the impression from hearing it, that it's about anything autistic. I'm not saying it isn't right, but I know that I have been able to picture myself as the person they are talking about, as well as other people I know, and none of us have ever been diagnosed with autism! An ironic misconception | Reviewer: Takeshi | 1/2/09 Honestly, I doubt this song intends to be cheerful; it entails a boy diagnosed with autism and his struggle with reality. The tone used is quite similar to 'Solsbury hill' by Peter Gabriel, whom the band draw influence from, I'd assume, and really outlines the irony of the lyrics juxtaposed to the 'general outlook' of Solitary Shell as a song. I believe the band intentionally gave the song a vibe that would allow listeners to have a rosy conception, in order to replicate the current awareness of children (and adults) suffering from autism. In reality, these lyrics could just as easily fit to a rhythm similar to 'Goodnight Kiss' (which is a great song, mind you) because they aren't cheerful at all. love it | Reviewer: MissCam | 10/22/08 I actually love the whole album I found this song on (greatest hit: and 21 other pretty cool songs---two discs!) , but I can relate to this song in more ways than one (save for the fact that it's about a guy).
