Snow (Hey Oh) Lyrics - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Review The Song (51)

Come to decide that the things that I tried
Were in my life just to get high on
When I sit alone come get a little known
But I need more than myself this time

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe it, we rely on
When I lay it on come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice

Refrain:
Hey oh, listen what I say, oh
I got your hey oh, now listen what I say, oh

When will I know that I really can't go
To the well once more time to decide on
When it's killing me, when will I really see
All that I need to look inside

Come to believe that I better not leave
Before I get my chance to ride
When it's killing me, what do I really need
All that I need to look inside

Refrain:
Hey oh, listen what I say, oh
Come back and hey oh, look at what I say, oh

Stick:
The more I see, the less I know
The more I like to let it go
Hey oh, whoa

Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
And it's so white as snow
Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go

When to descend to amend for a friend
All the channels that have broken down
Now you bring it up, I'm gonna ring it up
Just to hear you sing it out

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe what we rely on
When I lay it on, come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice

Refrain:
Hey oh, listen what I say, oh
I got your hey oh, listen what I say, oh

Stick:
The more I see, the less I know
The more I like to let it go
Hey oh, whoa

Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go

I said hey, hey yeah, oh yeah, tell my Love now
Hey, hey yeah, oh yeah, tell my Love now
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow

Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow

Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go
I said hey, oh yeah, oh yeah, tell my love now
Hey, hey yeah, oh yeah

leave the content alone | Reviewer: Parker | 8/20/11

Hello fellows, the content of the song is not important, the most important thing is the feeling and spirit.
Like in China, if the content of a song is agast the government, the song will be forbided to sing in public. I can not agree with this action.

are you people dumb | Reviewer: you people | 4/26/11

ok you are all trying so hard to make this song seem like theere are hidden messages i mean im sure they're are a few but if you knew anthing you would know that all of the band was clean while making this album so im pretty sure that there are no subliminal messages that you feel the need to try and decipher for us because quite frankly we DONT give a fuck

who gives a crap? | Reviewer: a happy dude that just tripped on air | 3/10/11

ok, i'm sick and tired of people digging too deep. who cares about what the background story is or the band's memiors? it's music. can't we just listen to it and enjoy it, instead of arguing about what the band is like? seriously, this song is amazing and i practically grew up with it. i don't care if its about crack or whatever. it is music. just go with it. it's making it less fun for everyone else.

whats with you guys? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/19/11

why does everthing have to be drugs or no drugs? as far as i can tell its mainly about a confused state of the writer over a troubling choice. "the more i see, the less i know, the more i like to let it go". "deep beneth the cover of another perfect wonder where its so white as snow" and "running through the fields where my tracks could be coceiled" could refer to the diffrent choices. where snow would refer to winter and the fields most likly refering to summer. complete opposites of an arguement.but considering i did not write the piece and do not personally know nor have i stuied the author, i could only offer a guess.

White as snow... | Reviewer: Farshad | 3/30/10

The song is definitely one of the best.Perfect guitar play, drums and a real beautiful text makes this song unique.Specially the intro is very heart touching.I love RHCP and their songs but now that John has left the band I hope in their new album they can be as good as they were in previous albums.I wish Josh Kilgnhofer plays as harmonic as Johnny.

interpretations | Reviewer: Zombie | 3/30/10

I figured it was about cocaine, and they had to change yayo to hey oh. Snow is an obvious euphemism for coke. The lyrics make sense in that context. The beauty of well-written music is that you can gain something whether you interpret it the way the musician intended or not. Either way, it's a great song. If Keidis says that's what he was talking about when he wrote it, then who am I to argue?

starting over | Reviewer: sandy | 1/9/10

I agree with dt...this song is about starting over, tracks in the snow can be conceled when there is fresh snow, and so the message is the past can be concealed, and there is freedom to move forward.
I do not believe this song is about addiction or drugs.

White as snow | Reviewer: Dani | 12/11/09

After reading Anthony's memoirs, Scar Tissue, I believe that he had a spiritual awakening in his effort to kick his drug habit. He talks about keeping clean and needing not only a higher power, but also to be involved in helping others get clean which is a picture of the true gospel. In the first lines he talks of getting high to experience life then goes on to say that he couldn't go it on his own. Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder is his 'saving grace' so to speak. A great song from a really great song writer-no one has lyrics and phrasings like Anthony Kiedis!

IT IS NOT DRUGS BUT THE 12 STEPS! | Reviewer: NIck | 12/10/09

If anyone else other than me has fought the battle of addiction and is CURRENTLY attending 12 step meetings on a regular basis they would know in an instant that this song is about the 12 steps which are about straring out fresh, that is what the whole program is about. And the song describes the 12 steps look them up and listen to the song, I MEAN REALLY LISTEN!

Beloved Song | Reviewer: RoxyWolf | 11/3/09

I first heard this song on the menu screen of the second Death Note song, and went absolutely insane trying to find it. It has to be one of my favorite songs.
I don't necessarily believe it is about drugs, but it may be about escaping them.. regardless, I personally think that the message is that maybe we all want to get away from our troubles and disappear into the clean white snow, to the perfect and untainted world beyond our own..
