SNAKE RIVER CONSPIRACY is a project of Jason Slater and Tobey Torres. Jason Slater was a former member of Third Eye Blind, but got tired of that kind of music, and set off to make a completely different music, that would be so new it would be offensive. He wanted a female singer for the band, and he found Tobey Torres, who had previously been only in cover bands. What was created is an eclectic blend of several types of music, that produce one sound. There's a definite electronic theme, but pop, rock, rap, and gothic undertones flow through the music as well. The result is spectacular. SRC cannot be classified into one category, it reminds me of how Portishead got their own category, I think SRC should too. Slater's mixing is reminiscent of Susan Wallace of Switchblade Symphony, not the sound, but the genius of the music But it is Torres who definitely carries that music. Her vocal range hits on every mood, from sultry to angry, apathetic to fearful. Slater hit his mark perfectly, SRC is a band like none before. |
