Smashing Pumpkins Lyrics

In 1988, Chicago's clubs were still pumping with the dance
innovation that had exploded in the city two years earlier
- house music. Meanwhile, at a Polish bar near the centre
of town, the germ of another sonic revolt was taking shape.
In front of a tiny crowd, a lanky, moon-faced guitarist and
his ice-cool, American-Japanese side kick were whipping up
a maelstrom of freeform jazz-punk noise.

18 months later, this embryonic two-man show had evolved
into the Smashing Pumpkins, a proto-grunge quartet with two

Correct lyrics! | Reviewer: brewster
------ About the song By Starlight performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Many thanks to the person who posted these actually *correct* lyrics! I checked three other lyrics sites before coming here and found the same inexcusable errors replicated on all three. (I say inexcusable, because these lyrics are printed right in the booklet that comes with the CD! For crying out loud, if you can't be bothered to get something right, don't waste my time getting it wrong! /rant)
Again, thank you to the poster.

------ About the song 1979 performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I was 14 in 1979 and in Junior high school. The kids in the vid look about as old..
The big seventies style cars in the video give it a cool authenticity. i understand the lyrics to be about restless youth Something I can relate to well.

SP / Billy Corgan did something to my soul? | Reviewer: hello
------ About the song Luna performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I don't really have it figured out yet. I don't. I try to understand. Are they just magic? What exactly did they do to me? I'm not sure.

This music is important. It did something to my soul.

Something happened to me because of the Smashing Pumpkins. I'm not sure if I'm alright. I might not ever get over it. I'm feeling things inside of my body.

It might be that there is no magic carpet but there are shiny disks and we go for a long ride on the disks through the space. And we meet other galaxies? That happens inside of my cellulars.

We probably know each other and now we know how. It's nice to see you again. Thanks for reading my review. It was laborious to type this.

I am in Love with you. So in love.

Bye-bye.

Long Live Smashing Pumpkins! | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song 1979 performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I was 18 in 1979. This song pretty much wraps up how I felt at that time, nothing for sure, but lots of options out there.
I just can't help but smile when I listen to the lyrics and watch the video, cool kids, harmless pranks, confusion, fun; exactly how we were in my teen years. I turned out okay. I've been a school teacher for 36 years. Today I swam 100 X 100 yards on a 1:40 interval and this was the song that kept me feeling youthful, happy, and energetic enough to complete the challenge. Long live Smashing Pumpkins!

------ About the song Frail and Bedazzled performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Damn the Pumpkins Rock! What else can you say. This song is pure genius. Now, after almost 20 years of listening (wow) I find new meaning by reading the lyrics for the first time.
And since I gave up -
I feel free!
To me, this song is about being in love. Opening your heart and giving it to another. Frail = vulnerable Bedazzled = blinded by love. You can go on...interpret it the way you like. Make it yours. This album is mine in an important way...for the memories it's associated with in my life's soundtrack. Its value to me can't be measured. Maybe as valuable for you?

------ About the song Thirty-three performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Agree with a lot of the views and interpretations...which is most likely the point.
I'm 43, saw SP come up from Chicago, go universal and now reside in a timeless place.
Personally can relate to the lyrics - literal and metaphoric.
Life experience tends to lead you on various spiritual paths if you choose to recognize them.
Its a beautiful song with insightful lyrics placed perfectly in the chorus.
Let it be to each his own and simply enjoy.

Great song, Great lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Cash Car Star (12" Double LP version) performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I love how the lyrics on this track sting. This song is about the American culture where everybody wants to be a star, drive a fast car, and meddle in everyone's business. By the way, the lyric is not "Yeah, we hope your coming down", it's "Yeah, We'll Help You Party Down" - American Band by Grand Funk Railroad, anybody?

------ About the song The End is the Beginning is the End performed by Smashing Pumpkins

In the version I hear, the text is not the same.
Great song,Billy, dark, misterious and clueless as the world we appreciate around us. Castaneda,Torah,Necronomicon,Bible, well a glimpse of eternity lures us from the digital world, but remember, precision is not truth, chuchetumadre

Very powerful song | Reviewer: smatheson
------ About the song Thirty-three performed by Smashing Pumpkins

This song is mostly about Christ, and his journey to meet his friends for, what he knew, was the last time. It tells the story of him preparing himself for what lay ahead, and what he was going to tell them before he died. He was 33 when he was crucified. This song also gives parallels to modern life, trying to apply Christ's message to how we live today, in love and forgiveness, regardless of what we face ahead of us. In a way, it's a "What would Jesus do?" way of looking at the difficulties in life, and showing appreciation for all that we have, because it may not be there tomorrow, or we may not be.
