In 1988, Chicago's clubs were still pumping with the dance
innovation that had exploded in the city two years earlier
- house music. Meanwhile, at a Polish bar near the centre
of town, the germ of another sonic revolt was taking shape.
In front of a tiny crowd, a lanky, moon-faced guitarist and
his ice-cool, American-Japanese side kick were whipping up
a maelstrom of freeform jazz-punk noise.

18 months later, this embryonic two-man show had evolved
into the Smashing Pumpkins, a proto-grunge quartet with two
incendiary 7"s to theor name, including one on the
legendary Sub Pop label. Signing to Virgin (Hut in the
U.K.), they quickly transformed from a dizzying provincial
attraction into one of the world's biggest alternative rock
bands, mixing a barrage of metalli More...

------ About the song Tear performed by Smashing Pumpkins

This album has always been important to me, for reasons i never knew exactly, this always having been a favourite song of mine. Last August my fiance died in a single car crash and this song seemed to have an intense emotion in it which i was previously unable to capture in my own thoughts and writings. I feel like i can hear it clearer now the way it was written and have an understanding of this song so much better. Helps me to get understand my own position better.

------ About the song I of the Mourning performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I was talking with my bassist about playing this song and he said it was an "insipid" song. I can't get it, it isn't obviously a complex or hard to play song, but insipid? It really connects with me, I thing this song is one of those beauty yet simple.
Anyway, it has given me the goosebumps more than once.

------ About the song I Am One performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Billy Corgan doesn't usually write songs about this kind of thing, but to me it seems like it could be about religious war. I am one means monotheism, relative to possibly Christianity, with their father, son and holy spirit; ransacking a religious city to find answers about god.

------ About the song The Beginning is the End is the Beginning performed by Smashing Pumpkins

i have been scrolling through the lyrics of smashing pumpkins for a couple days now obsessively, and finding they all, in some way or another, relate to the book '1984' by george orwell.
perhaps it's just because i have just completed reading it that i have now become aware of significant references and that big brother is watching me always.
but, i find the links everywhere now and it terrifies me.

Why do people have to be so damn rude. | Reviewer: Hannah Marie Correa
------ About the song Bullet with Butterfly Wings performed by Smashing Pumpkins

yeah, i understand the fact that he makes songs talking about how empty god is and how god is never there for him but has it ever hit you that maybe Billy is undergoing some hardships in life and writing some songs about how he hates god can help him through these times? I used to be just like him, and i do understand how he feels, i wrote poetry that sounded briefly the same as his songs and for myself doing that helped me from killing myself, because that was the road i was going on. expressing how i felt helped me from doind so and now i feel alot better about myself. Billy makes exquisite music and you dont really have to listen if it is such a big deal to you about how he feels. I dont understand, people listen to music that they like and if they dont like it they simply change it, why dont you all do the same?? dont make jokes about someone elses hero...because he is MINE!!! I adore him as a composer and a person, and nothing you can say will make me think otherwise.
BILLY KEEP MAKEING MUSIC, IF NOT FOR THEM THAN FOR ME!

very ambient...i love it! | Reviewer: Devin
------ About the song The Beginning is the End is the Beginning performed by Smashing Pumpkins

This song is perfect for both Batman and Watchmen...its so dark-sounding and it fits the tone that both superhero stories have, even though it coincidentally works with Watchmen since it was written for Batman.
Nonetheless, its sound is mysterious, pretty, and subliminally ominous..makes me feel like Roscharch. Hahaha, not to mention the lyrics are intertwined to the point where you have to read them all in order to understand the message. Excellence!

------ About the song Disarm performed by Smashing Pumpkins

For some reason I always got the impression that this song was about being abused when you were a child and tp pretend like it never happened. That's why I love this song though, because it can be interpreted in any way you like. Whether its about lovers, growing up, parents or life in general.

    beautiful song | Reviewer: slater
------ About the song Glynis performed by Smashing Pumpkins

a friend of Billys and the pumpkins.. Glynis Johnson, from Red Red Meats, also a Chicago group had toured along side with the pumpkins at the time. Glynis passed away from AIDS.
this song a tribute to her.

    R.I.P.

Assessment of Superman and The Holy Gale | Reviewer: Ralf S.
------ About the song Geek U.S.A. performed by Smashing Pumpkins

If you've ever listened to it, the song is insane. It doesn't feel regular, it flows like energy. You can only direct energy so much. It's chaotic leading to something greater.

I feel this song is about throwing caution to the wind to get what you want, to destroy the barriers you put up to experience what you crave. To do things others only wish they had the nerve to do. The dissappointed disappear. People to strive to do whjat what they want not neccessarily what they must or need to. M.L.K jr. didn't have to do CRAP, neither did any other civil rights activists. In the end most of the heroes we knew took what they wanted, gave nothing back, and wrote history. Because they did what no one else had the balls to do, they seem heroic, glamourous, powerful, cunning, skilled, dangerous. Shot full of Diamonds and a Million Years. To the title, When you think of the word geek what do you see? Someone like that or someone of the other side of the spectrum? U.S.A itself is a nation of want, greed, and take. We took what we wanted from england in the revolution and stood our ground. We took only those who met our standards into our alliance, We decimated a race of people for the sake of land and money. Geek U.S.A The Geek who took his chance to get what he wanted, made his chance at that. In this case, a girl. and the Girl, who is implied to be higher is highschool's redundant social rank who took on the geek out of want.

(Easy money) Too much honey for the pigs | Reviewer: Bas
------ About the song Cherub Rock performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Seems pretty obvious to me; introspective mirror turned on the rising "generation x" culture, and the innocent and naïve hopefulness of youth. Somehow a simultanious call to arms to those who still believe and a heeding warning for the trapdoors along the path of time. And we all found out how fragile the whole thing was when it came crashing down well before the 90's were over. Too bad it didn't wake us up from, but made us dig deeper into the delusions of the "(American) Dream". How "coolness" can keep us from turning into "kitsch" but can also be turned into a form of kitsch when we stop paying attention and don't put our heart and soul into it anymore...

Best band ever and one of their best songs | Reviewer: Alex
------ About the song Stumbleine performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Stumbleine is an amazing song just like many others from sp,but this one is special and i really don't know why but what i can say for sure is that if you don't like this song you have no idea of what good music is.

    Wow | Reviewer: Birdman
------ About the song 1979 performed by Smashing Pumpkins

What the hell happened to this time? I'm a teenager now and I feel more attached to this song than I do to songs about teenagers from this generation of music... That's really disappointing. You guys got to listen to Corgan and Cobain and all the good stuff... And we have to listen to it over again to wash out the freakin' Jonas Brothers... Not that I wouldn't listen to it anyway, it owns.

    beautiful. | Reviewer: dfflebagboy
------ About the song By Starlight performed by Smashing Pumpkins

this song is so beautiful. i love how billy corgan is showing his deep love for someone and wondering if you can really truly know someone at the same time. the guitar riff during the chorus is just beautiful. excellent song.

    Great song | Reviewer: Zoe
------ About the song 1979 performed by Smashing Pumpkins

This song is one of his i can relate to i like how billy corgan produces music in which u canhave such emotional attatchments to because you think about the lyrics and relize wow i felt that way before. Their songs capture the essence of certain feelings that sometimes make u cry because of how real they are and thats what i like aboutthe smashing pumpkins

    Untitled review | Reviewer: Kenny
------ About the song Untitled performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I had a version of this song ripped off the radio in Chicago when Billy brought it to them to airplay it. He said alot of people were saying this was more like the older Pumpkins - the Pop Pumpkins..he went on to say that the Pumpkins had alot of incarnations - pop, rock, punk, heavy metal, etc... and that this was the last thing they had recorded, though I assume that it was just him and his drummer as usual. This will always be one of my favorite songs. It is just an awesome song, and very bright and uplifting...something that got into his Zwan material as well. It is the last great Pumpkin song..all the new stuff has no heart in it at all, and with Jimmy Chamberlain finally gone as well, I hold out little hope that Billy will ever compose another close to this one. It's all thrash and metal now, for some reason Billy thinks that is what people want, but really we always liked the pop Pumpkins the best.. as for God references, that is silly, it is a song about love and being in love, and it's a great song... Billy is a born again Christian, just listen to the last song on the Zwan album, if you doubt, but that has no relevance here. cheers
    Kenny

    A masterpiece. | Reviewer: XCon2
------ About the song Mayonaise performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Just amazing! Our music now is little girls singing about boyfriends. Why? Back then, there was music with a meaning. Mayonaise is one of them. It is a true masterpiece by the Pumpkins and it will always be.

a gem in a whole bag of gems | Reviewer: nona
------ About the song The Sacred and Profane performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Took me a *long* time to get to the point where I listened to this song, instead of just the first three. But in fact, there's a whole mess of great songs on that album, it just takes a while before they grow on you. I'm starting to think this was the Pumpkins best album of them all.

SMASHING PUMPKINGS ARE AWESOME | Reviewer: Lauren!!!
------ About the song 1979 performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Ok you guys Smashing Pumpkins are the best. And this song is AWESOME!!! Definitely awesome and in my top ten. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is an AWESOME album. But try Siamese Dream-every single frikkin song on there is good. Im not even kidding. EVERY SONG. Not a sucky or eh or just okay song on there. Its awesome. And don't forget Gish and they have a bunch more albums out there. Zeitgiest-their newest one, is also really kick ass. But personally Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Siamese Dream and Gish and...o what the hell ALL THEIR ALBUMS ARE AWESOME. Billy Corgan, you are boss.

    Wow... | Reviewer: Katie
------ About the song Quiet performed by Smashing Pumpkins

This is a pretty powerful song, but mostly every song by SP is...
My interpretation... It describes the loss of faith in "God" or whatever it is you believe in.
    How humanity has fallen, perhaps.
"Sleeping" might represent how everyone is turning a blind eye to things that are taking place on a day to day basis. Being oblivious to it. Or choosing to ignore it.

    As for the banana review...
Dude... What were you smoking before you made this review? Wow...
Maybe if we all toked a bit, we'd understand what the hell he was trying to say.
    Lmfao. xDD
    .............................
I want a banana and some coffee now...
Thanks, banana guy.... Thanks alot. -_-

    wow | Reviewer: Billy Corgan
------ About the song The End is the Beginning is the End performed by Smashing Pumpkins

I can't believe that other guy was pretending to be me. I guess I really am that famous though.

Oh and guess what, I didn't even write this song. I stole it from a poem written by a man from mississippi! I'll never tell who though
