The relationship is rocky and damaging to both of the people but they stay together because there is nobody else that could make them feel the same. (We never leave each other coz we leave each other so cold). Love can reel you in and make you do silly things. The imagery created in these lyrics could also relate to drugs.. "her" being the drug.. a male addict and his relationship with a drug that makes him feel better. I personally think he is talking about a female that makes him feel high and low.. like a drug affect. I love this song though, it has to be one of my favourites.
