Sleeping In Lyrics - The Postal Service

Review The Song (11)

Last week I had the strangest dream
Where everything was exactly how it seemed
Where there was never any mystery of who shot John F. Kennedy
It was just a man with something to prove
Slightly bored and severely confused
He steadied his rifle with his target in the center
And became famous on that day in November

Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
ooh, ooh

And then last night I had that strange dream
Where everything was exactly how it seemed
Where concerns about the world getting warmer
The people thought that they were just being rewarded
For treating others as they like to be treated
For obeying stop signs and curing diseases
For mailing letters with the address of the sender
Now we can swim any day in November

Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
(Now we can swim any day in November)
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in

Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
Don't wake me I plan on sleeping in
(repeat with various ooh's)

Since I listened to this song, sort of addicted for it. You just forget everything else, and feels like you are in heavens. The best part, you never get bored with this song, no matter how many times you listen to it. Magical song I should say, so much mesmerizing.

Great song. But.. | Reviewer: Jamie | 8/28/10

I don't think it's about mysteries or things being fake at all... he's just saying that people in his dreams don't think of things in that way. They see global warming as a reward, which suggests naivety. It's just a lot more carefree, hence preferring to sleep than be awake.

Okay I've found this true for several Songs by the postal service: their beat may be cheery and what I would call 'mindless' and carefree (which can be good) but they're lyrics are totally different. This is a great song!!

meaning? | Reviewer: plew | 6/17/09

it took me a while but one day the meaning of the song clicked. see how he starts every stanza about a dream? about "Last week I had the strangest dream/Where everything was exactly how it seemed" he talks about the mystery if there was one more than one guy who shot jfk and the magic bullet theory. then in the other about global warming and how people think its fake. when he says dont wake me i plan on sleeping in. he is saying that he doesnt want to wake from his dream because in his dreams there are no mysterys and nothing is fake unlike the real world.

Political... | Reviewer: Jamie | 3/16/09

I always thought this song was so calming and mellow and still love it!, but I finally REALLY listened to it the other day and realized it's about the JFK conspiracy and global warming, and basically saying don't trust the government. Now I like it even more! LoL
