FORMED: 1982, Huntington Beach, CA The Beginning... Slayer came to life in the LA. Surburb of "the Huntington Beach Area". Soon they won the reputation of "the Huntington Hooligans". The band was started by Kerry King, a guitarist who was looking for other muscians to start a band. Prior to that, he had been in another band, with Tom Araya. Kerry discovered Jeff Hanneman, another guitarist, who was very interested in the punk movement that was going on at the time. Later the two teamed up with a very skilled drummer by the name of Dave Lombardo. Slayer became a reality when singer and bassist Tom Araya joined the band after Jeff Hanneman talked to him about joing the band. By the time, Jeff asked Tom, Tom worked in a nearby hospital as a respiratory therapist. More... ("Burning flesh, drips away / Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil") Also, with the lines "Surgery, with no anesthesia / Feel the knife peirce you intensely" and "Pumped with fluid, inside your brain / Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes" ... well, one can just imagine. Kick-ass song though, one of my favorite by Slayer. Joseph Mengele | Reviewer: mullet boi ------ About the song Angel Of Death performed by Slayer Not many people know this, but the song is actually about a man named joseph mengele, who was a "thumb man" at the Auschwitz nazi prison camp. All the prisoners would line up in front of him and he would decide who was forced to labor in the camp, and who would be sent directly to the gas chambers. 'Death to the left, Life to the right', as he would say. Once, it was found that a prison block was infected with lice so he sent all 750 women in that block to the gas. Furthermore, he drew a line on the wall at 5'2" for the children. any child whose head did not reach the line would die. This song almost sounds like a rip-off of Metallica's ...And Justice For All. I hope not the latter connotation. This song should be for one an eye-opener to the atroscities of the horrorcaust. Those of 1 man at least. Wikipedia says that he died in the water after a stroke. While he helplessly drowned hopefully not only his life but also the more than 1 million victims he took part in destroying flashed before his eyes. (Perhaps someone beat me to it... seen as how it takes 48 hours for a review to be published.) Personally i find that, if you knnow the meaning behind a song, it makes the song alot better, so here it is. Silent Scream is about abortion. that part is obvious if you read the lyrics. The name for the song was inspired by the abortion video shown in schools from the 50s to the late 70s, wherein it showed an ultrasound of an unborn child during the actual abortion. The face and body of the baby were very clear on the moniter, and as the doctor inserted the jagged edged tongs used to tear the child from the womb, the child's mouth opened wide, as though it were screaming. The video is no longer shown in schools, however, because of what it did to the girls who watched it. it totally f*cked them up and made them scared and shaking outside the classroom. The song says alot about abortion and how worthless you must be to actually have one performed on yourself, your girlfriend, or your daughter. It is your child, it is your responsibility.
