With its edgy brand of industrial rock and aggressive live
shows, Skillet has been on the cutting-edge of the
Christian music scene since the band debuted in 1996.
Now after a season of transformation, Skillet unveils its
fourth studio album, ALIEN YOUTH. It's a hard-driving piece
of work that captures the energy of the band's legendary
concerts; more importantly, its powerful proclamation of
faith finds the band taking bold steps with its message and
musicality.
"The people we've played it for are like, 'Woah! This is
heavy! This sounds like Skillet live, this is great!'"
exclaims founding member John Cooper, who serves as the
band's lead singer, bass player, chief songwriter, producer
and all around guiding force.

------ About the song Savior performed by Skillet
I love this song, but I'm actually not Christian. And when I look at the lyrics, I can see how the lyrics can be taken as a Christian message, as a God-of-any-religion message, and as a non-religious message.
Christian because they feel that if you believe in only Jesus (surrender your love, etc...)
Any other religion, because they feel the same way about their god or supreme being.
Non religion, because this song could just be refering to everyday 'saviors'. Everyday such as people fighting for their country in wars, people fighting for their people (like MLK and Ghandi, and some other prominent people did). All these people are considered saviors. All you non-religious people who love skillet, take the message like this. :)

Cj, thank you so much for the second paragraph in your recent post. but, i do have one complaint. you see, Christ ''poofs'' away our sins when we confess our faults to him and you cant take religion too far, only not far enough

To the person who says that a certain type of music is evil...different people are brought to Jesus in different ways. Crimson Moonlight is one of my favorite bands and they're Christian black metal. It's the lyrics that count, not the type of music. Type in Crimson Moonlight in the search box at the top of the screen, and read the lyrics to "Where Darkness Cannot Reach" and then try to say that Crimson Moonlight isn't a Christian band. Along with Disciple (heavy metal) and Living Sacrifice (all screaming, I'm not sure what you call that type of music.)
My point is, it's the lyrics that make a band Christian, not the type of music that they play.
Jesus is Lord.

Ever since my fiance put this song on my mp3 player it has pretty much been the theme song for our relationship. before i met him i was a cutter big time (referances in songs like this i would more preferably take to be metaphorical, it just seems deeper, but for me its literal) and my parents never have understood me or how we feel for each other. when i met him he kinda took the role in my life that everyone had slacked on and im a much better and more mature person because of him. unfortunately we have always had setbacks in our relationship that have caused us to be apart (whether it be distance or strict parents). whenever im feeling down about missing him i just play this song on repeat and dream of the day i'll never have to spend another night alone...

Well i am sorry but i dont really have any ideas on how to help you for i just read this message however I will keep you in my prayers and let you know if God has anything for me to say to you. You should try talking to him he is always ready to listen! Just reamber though no matter what others say is your fault even if it is yours you are still special! if your still in school try seeing if there is a prayer team and maybe getting connected with them and you dont have to go to the meetings but maybe just ask someone who is in there to pray for you or if you dont want for them to know who you are just slip an envlope under the door or somthing. Hope i helped! I am sorry if I don’t really have any ideas that don’t have to with God or the bible or something but ive grown up in Christian home so I don’t really no many other ways. (and im not a very good at thinking outside the box)

This song kind of reminds me of my bf and I. Niether one of us cuts or anything, but he has not had the best life ever and he gets depressed quite a bit. He didn't believe in God and his friends didn't help, so he used to have to deal with it alone all the time, but not since he meant me. That night was the last night he spent alone. He is also there for me. It's important to have friends and people that can be there for you. If not, you can always turn to God. Never forget him.

I'm also glad for music like this. My bf is...or at least was...completely Atheist and he loved this song anyway. Got him looking deeper into this music and religion in general. Religious bands like this can definitely speak to crowds that otherwise could care less about Christ.

Timjim, people like you make me wanna cry. Just because you were recently saved, doesn't mean that you have the right to act all high and mighty. You can't just "poof" away all of your wrong-doings. And the only reason that you can't hear any of the words is because you're deaf. The reason that I look up the lyrics is so that I don't have to type it all out when i want to share it. And how can a type of music be a form of the devil? I don't get it. Are you that brainwashed from the constant fear and hysteria that you recieve from church, that you start seeing everything as "against god"?
BUT, i guess I have to respect everyones own interpretation of this song. Because honestly, I think its up to the listener. Sure, it has some religious meanings. But it doesn't necessarily have to be about God. It can also, as many people I'm sure have already said, there are multiple meanings that can be taken from this song. From love for someone or something, to wanting to feel gods love and protection. This is what, I think, makes a good song. Being able to take several meanings from it depending on your point of view. And just for clarification, I don't have a problem with religion, just some of the people who believe in it take it too far in some ways. Timjim being one of them -.-

I have a question for you all why are we looking up the lyrics. Oh that's right it's a metal song and only a few words can be understood so we have to see what they are saying. I remember when I was in my teens I listened to this junk and I read an interview of that cooper guy and he said that he had went to a a marylane manson concert to get ideas. Now Manson is highly satanic in fact he tells people to reject Christ in his concerts. And just a couple of months ago i looked up some of Skillets concert pics and seen that the female guitar player had a tee-shirt of a skull and bones which depicts the occult. I have been studing this type of thing for a while. Another pic. she had on a tee-shirt of David Bowie a far from christian artists. The Bible I have says not to love the world neither the things that are in the world if any man love the world the love of the Father is not in Him.
I'm not trying to be a critic but I have a concern for you people because I just became saved two months ago and before that when I was about 13 I started to listen to religious rock (so called Christian) and the past few years I was listening to that evil stuff like iron maiden, black sabbeth, dio, ozzy, and more. And I wanted little to do with Christ. Satan seems to always mimic the things of God. But now Christians are mimicing the works of darkness. Rock was developed in the fifties ten years later christian rock started coming about. Metal was established in the early 70's. In the early 80's Stryper was born. Black metal was brought about in the 80's then guess what in the 90's white metal or what they try tried to call unblack(christian) metal started forming. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God Romans 12:2

It doesn't necesarily have to be about god, it can be anything, gf/bf/dog/goldfish whatever, that's why the song isn't only a success amongst christians.
It is very narrowminded to think that the lyrics can only apply to one thing, and only one thing.

I absolutely love this song. It tells a true story about all the darkness and evil in our world and shows us that we should get up and do something. When I first herd this song I picked up on most of the lyrics and looked up the rest... this song changed the way I think about things.
i still cut sometimes. im trying so hard not to but my parents, even my friends are blaming me for things that i dont do. I dont know what to do. I dont know God. My friends are not Christians at all. what should i do???
You can obviously see the meaning behind this song, it's about teenagers and the problem with peer pressure and other sh*t that happens, with all the fights. It's about a kid stuck in the middle, but he doesn't know where to go for help, but tries to make his 'friend' stop it by telling him it's all his fault.
I love skillet, their new album is a lot better from their original stuff.

I like how you think it's a selfless act on a humans part, but it was actually the selfless act of JESUS, who died on the cross for us, the ultimate selfless act anyone could do. No human could do such an act like that without a Godly reason. Jesus loves us, and he doesn't want to see us hurt or kill ourselves, He intervened when I tried to kill myself, that's why this song means so much to me.

I like to think of this song as something more down to earth, this is a sad song and yet its about the love of this man to his woman and how he wont let her do that to herself anymore. Its something that isnt explainable...you cant say its god...because you just arent sure. All i know is, this christian rocker band got a hold of me and i am no where near a believer myself. You cant blame everything on god or thank him for everything either, at some point its going to be time for you to be respobsible for your own actions...in this song he took it upon himself to give it his all, his everything, for her...he took her pain as his and he stood his ground with her and told her she wasnt going to be alone anymore. Thats not god ladies and gents, thats human nature at its best. Caring for someone hard enough that you will do anything, be anywhere, and fight anything for them. Im not saying this isnt a religous song (obviously the band is religious) however, look at it from another point of view sometimes, it might hit you a lot harder when you see it as a selfless act, not one choreographed by someone who may or may not exist.
I agree with every single one of you that skillet is hands down an amazing "christian rock" group. But i have to disagree on there not being a God because i have seen and heard of miracles. Is not that you aren't getting what you prayed for its just not his will or its not time for the thing you prayed for to happen. Not wanting to preach to yall but that is my opinion i have a right to it and if you don't believe in what i'm talking about thats your right. I will take it upon myself to pray for everyone that wants it. But can't tell what i believe and what i believe what your supposed to do cuz i would get in trouble=)

This song just brings about the meaning of God never forsaking us. I'm really glad to see that someone who doesn't believe in God liked this song. i think that while listening to christian music, you get this feeling, everyone just has this passion that's not ever been seen before, and that just might introduce you to who God is...and why the passion these people carry in their music is so strong.

------ About the album Awake performed by Skillet
I'm going to go through the album song by song so.... (please remember this is just my opinion and in no way should be taken as fact)
Hero: Great opening track, energetic, its one of the harder songs on the album. It gets you pumped up for the album. plus it has some good lyrics.
Monster: Maybe a little harder then hero. Has good lyrics maybe a bit better then hero. Plus the growl is awesome.
Don't Wake Me: A harsh shift in style. This being much lighter and more lyrical the the first two tracks. (one of my favorite songs on the album)
Awake and Alive: Now we switch back to a harder sound. A pretty good song with good lyrics. It's on par with the first two songs.
One Day Too Late: First time i heard this song it made me think of Nickelback circa Silver side up. Again a slower song but with great lyrics.
It's Not Me It's You: Again back to a harder sound. This song is ok. In my opinion one of the weaker songs on the album. It has ok lyrics.
Should've When you Could've: this is in my opinion the weakest song on the album probably cause to me it feel fit the album. It's not a bad song the lyrics are good but its just another love song a bit different then most but still another love song. (also a harder song)
Believe: one of my favorite songs on the album. Very touching, Great lyrics. Just a great song. (a slower song)
Forgiven: not much to say about this song but over all its OK. nothing more nothing less. (slower song)
Sometimes: Back to a harder sound. My favorite song from the album and one of my favorite Skillet songs. It's emotional, has a great song. It's sad but good.
Never Surrender: harder sound again. A great song with great lyrics. This song might divide fans but I love it.
Lucy: The album ends with a slow quiet song. That is sure to make a lot of people cry. It's very touching, very sad and very very good.
I just reviewed the plain version cause that's the only I've heard. The deluxe has two or three more songs. But this is a great album. One of Skillets best and a great follow up to Comatose. In some weird way it feels like a sequel to Comatose. But that's definitely not a bad thing. So run out and buy a copy if you liked Comatose cause this is more of the same. (but in a good way)
