Sixpence None The Richer Lyrics
Sixpence None The Richer, named by guitarist Matt Slocum
for a phrase summing up an idea in CS Lewis' Mere
Christianity, was formed in 1991 by Slocum and Leigh
Bingham. The pair had met in 1989 en route to a church
youth retreat in their native Texas, and Slocum was
enchanted by the 13 year old Bingham's voice.
A demo recording was made in 1991, with the help of TJ
Behling (who wrote "Spotlight" and sung the original
version) and passed around underground and local magazines.
At Illinois' Cornerstone Festival, Slocum was surprised More...

------ About the song Kiss Me performed by Sixpence None The Richer
This is such a lovely and serene song. It totally reminds me of first love. The first time you absolutely fall in love, and you romanticise everything. The first time you fall in love, and have yourself adventures as if you both were children. The first time you fall in love, and yearn for that special kiss. Do you know the feeling? If you did, i'm sure you see the innocence in the lyrical content. The words used, remind me that love is such a powerful force that makes it meaningful to live in this often cynical and cold world.

------ About the song Kiss Me performed by Sixpence None The Richer
Yeah, the only thing I find turns me off of this song when I'm listening to it is the infamous 'Bring your flowered hat' shite line. It's not hard to imagine that the hard men in our crowd would be wondering why someone of the masculine gender would wear a 'flowered hat'; I've never even _seen_ a hat in my lifetime that I'd describe as 'flowered', unless it's not meant literally. Why the band didn't give enough of a shit about its audience to change the line so that it makes sense in reference to what a man would and wouldn't wear (that I suspect any man would relate to, and not just the proto-faggots choking the world's veins) when the person doing the singing was a woman, as well as to presume, if so, that the two lovers in the song were lesbians (which I doubt most people would assume by listening to the song) as somehow justifying the wording in the song's final version. Don't get me wrong: I like the song; but that one line completely ruins it for me.
And one more thing- if the song's about heroin addiction (and unless somebody involved in the song is stressing the shit out of the lyrics' origin beyond sanity and reason metaphysically, I really doubt it), then why does the music track sound like something pulled off a cheap 'love movie' throwaway crapfest (e.g. 'The Other Sister) or Sesame Street Teens? I'm not the staunchest anti-narcotics bannerwielder, but I have very little doubt that this was intended to be a drippy-droopy-sandy-vagina-feminist-screaming-cunts-in-Avril-&-Jewel's-Nazi-live-up on-the-stage-with-only-a-crap-acoustic-axe-audience love song, people.
Hmmm, the video? Heard this song when it first came out, but had no idea that there was an actual video for it. I think I'm gonna go look for it.

This song was originally written by a GUY for his girl, however when the female member of the band sang it, they went with her rather than the writer, the lyrics remained the same, so it's not about gay rights or whatever

Ok. Really? This song makes you think about your girlfriend? This song is beautiful because it is about some lesbian lovers? As a lesbian, I take offense. This song is about HEROINE. It is about drugs...in your veins, in your head. Watch the video. This is not a love song, although it is catchy
Seriously? Heroine?
Are you out of your mind?
Or maybe you can't read, because I can't find anything on that song that makes me think about lesbians or drugs.
What the fuck is wrong with you? Okay, let's do something, If you want to hear songs about drugs go and listen Feel Good Hit Of The Summer by Queens of the Stone Age. That's a song about drugs. Not this, for fucks sake, this is a love song.

I get that same impression when I listen to the song. I think it's mainly the line "Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat", because what GUY has a flowered hat?? Anyway, there's nothing in the lyrics to say that that it ISN'T about 2 girls, so that's how I interpret it :)

A song which celebrates life and love. It shows how the physical attraction of a girl for her first love is also pure and beautiful and a thing of joy. A real tonic to counter the cynical spirit of our age.
