Sitting Lyrics - Cat Stevens

Review The Song (6)

Oh I'm on my way, I know I am, somewhere not so far from here
All I know is all I feel right now, I feel the power growing in my hair
Sitting on my own not by myself, everybody's here with me
I don't need to touch your face to know, and I don't need to use my eyes to see
I keep on wondering if I sleep too long, will I always wake up the same (or so)?
And keep on wondering if I sleep too long, will I even wake up again or something
Oh I'm on my way I know I am, but times there were when I thought not
Bleeding half my soul in bad company, I thank the moon I had the strength to stop
I'm not making love to anyone's wishes, only for that light I see
'Cause when I'm dead and lowered low in my grave, that's gonna
be the only thing that's left of me
And if I make it to the waterside, will I even find me a boat (or so)?
And if I make it to the waterside, I'll be sure to write you a note or something
Oh I'm on my way, I know I am, somewhere not so far from here
All I know is all I feel right now, I feel the power growing in my hair
Oh life is like a maze of doors and they all open from the side you're on

Legendary Song but Lyrics have "changed?" | Reviewer: Mike | 4/16/14

This song had such a powerful influence on me as a teenager.... It validated the idea that we Hippies were on a journey to find ourselves and also the higher spiritual truth... a truth much higher than the institutional religions could offer...and armed with that truth we would revolutionise the entire planet..all to live at last in peace and harmony. Wow..... Yeah...and stick it to the man...

Some of us went full on "sex drugs, rock n roll" and others went full on spiritual.. "Peace Man"

Cat Stevens went full spiritual journey....way beyond the reaches of any religion..yet he was non judgemental towards all belief systems it seemed .it was just fantastic....

But now it appears, the Lyrics have been changed....

'Only for the God I see' is changed all over the internet to 'Only for the Light I see',

and
"Lowered, Lord, in my grave" to ""Lowered, Low, in my grave"

Seems like a politically correct attempt to cleanse out any reference to Christianity in his Lyrics.

Wow what a crazy world we live in now...who is doing this and why?

I have lived alongside this song four decades and the phrase that still jumps out the most is "but times there were when i thought not" There are times to sit and times to move, but you can not tell which happened when until you look backward from a good distance. This song truly represent what a great puzzle life is!

Revisited this song and the Album CB@4 which I bought when it was released. Time has not diminished any of it and I was aware of a slight thrill on hearing the first track 'Sitting' again. The Cat was a major talent hope he still is.

English is not my first language, but Spanish is. But even when I heard this song for the first time I knew there was something powerful in it. I don't know where it's Cat Steven's voice or the lyrics itself, but there is something there for sure. Thanks Cat Steven for this beautiful son...

I am of the Woodstock generation - but this song is about the spiritual practice of meditation - 'sitting' - and he says, 'sitting on my own, NOT by myself, everybody's here with me; (and) - I don't need my eyes to see." He speaks of the oneness with God or with the Buddha, or with whatever loving master one chooses. and this: "You're gonna wind up where you started from" is just about all that is necessary to know truth: but here is a quote that is wonderful and which I 'knew' somehow to write down when I was very young:
"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time." T.S. Eliot
'You're going to wind up where you started from."

a powerful song | Reviewer: jose fernandez | 9/6/07

I like the way cat stevens perfomed this song. it talks about the low and high of the 60's and 70's generation the lyric tells to us : It don't matter if you are lonely , if you have no anything to give or share . firstly you have to believe that you have everything on your mind and at the same time this kind of thoughts make the faith growing up inside of us and it gives us maturity because the younger generations often
don't hear some advices but this song for me is a good advice for them who living your lives so fast and lose the faith for that reason.
