Matt Nathanson was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA on March 28, 1973. Since picking up a guitar at the age of 6, Matt knew he wanted to be a musician. His strong, sincere lyrics and inspired musicianship have led many people to become die-hard fans after only a listen. His charm and sincerity in person, as well as his energetic and often humorous live shows have also endeared many a listener to his unique blend of acoustic folk and rock 'n' roll attitude.

Raised in Lexington, MA, he attended Proctor Academy in Andover, NH as a highschooler, and later moved to beautiful Claremont, CA to attend Pitzer College. During high school, Matt was involved in the school's jazz band, and also appeared in the school talent show. While in high school, Matt formed a band with a few close friends, and they performed mostly original songs along with a few U2 covers, during the time Matt refers to as his "fluffy mullet period." Definitely bound for greatness, even at a young age.

During his time at college, Matt continued to expand his musical prowess, recording his first album, Please, when he was just a freshman at age 19, in 1993. He also met his good friend Jonah from the band One Line Drawing, and the two of them became sort of the school troubadors.

Matt now lives in San Francisco, CA, with his wife Bridget.

Review about Matt Nathanson

Wonderful songwriter | Reviewer: Sheri Alexander | 7/4/2008
I heard Matt Nathanson for the first time coming home after spending several days at Berklee College of Music. I heard his song Come on get Higher and I was so moved by the song that when I got back home I downloaded the music and video from itunes and the rest of the songs from "Some Mad Hope". His lyrics and his performance are just wonderful. I have been a professional musician since I was 15 years old and attended Berklee College of Music from 1975-1979. I predicted Bruce Springsteen would be a super-star the day Greetings from Asbury Park was released (and we all know that turned out). I feel the same way about Matt Nathanson. Aside from having a great voice and being a wonderful songwriter his music is heartfelt. I've been playing is songs for anyone who will listen and the reaction has been the same. This guy is great! Matt, thanks for giving us something wonderful to listen to.

    Just great. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/15/2008

Matt Nathanson is really a great artist with a lot of songs under his belt. His songs have true meaning and really make you feel good, along with the fact that he is a great singer. If you've ever heard him live you'd know that he is a great artist, and you wouldn't be able to wait for more.

    amazed | Reviewer: claire | 1/5/2008

i first heard ALL WE ARE on a private practice episode a few months ago, I loved it. so I looked it up and got it off of itunes. recently i was given a lyrical analysis paper to write i started to listen to more of his music and really pay attention to the stories the lyrics told. matt's music is so sincere, there are no words that will do them justice. in short he is amazing!
