Simon Lyrics - Lifehouse

Review The Song (26)

Catch your breath,
Hit the wall,
Scream out loud,
As you start to crawl
Back in your cage
The only place
Where they will
Leave you alone.
'Cause the weak will
Seek the weaker til they've broken them.
Could you get it back again?
Would it be the same?
Fulfillment to their lack of strength at your expense,
Left you with no defense;
They tore it down.

(Chorus):
And I have felt the same as you,
I've felt the same as you,
I've felt the same.

Locked inside
The only place
Where you feel sheltered,
Where you feel safe.
You lost yourself
In your search to find
Something else to hide behind.

The fearful always preyed upon your confidence.
Did they see the consequence,
when they pushed you around?
The arrogant build kingdoms made of the different ones,
Breaking them 'til they've become just another crown.

(Chorus)

Refuse to feel anything at all,
Refuse to slip,
Refuse to fall.
Can't be weak,
Can't stand still,
You watch your back 'cause no one will.
You don't know why they had to go this far,
Traded your worth for these scars,
For your only company.
And don't believe the lies
That they have told to you. Not one word was true
you're alright, you're alright, you're alright.

(Chorus)

Suits me completely | Reviewer: Brittany | 3/19/12

This song relates to me so much right now. After I came back to work from the death of my son, the one who wanted my job decided to do everything possible to make me so upset that i'd want to quit.I'm not sure what sort of person would "seak the weaker til they've broken them". It's completely evil in my situation because they are making me want to "crawl back in my cage again" to hide my sadness. As corny as that may sound...I can't believe how some people can be so evil and think it's funny to play with someone's emotions.

Just Amazing | Reviewer: Jake Bruker | 4/17/10

This song just amazes me I listen to it over and over again an everytime it just amazes me on how real it is...frommy point of view it doesn't relate to my relationships or even how others treat me its more about how I feel about myself and how I shouldn't let the world tear me down but most importantly myself I wish everyone could apreciate it as much as I do

abusive ex's | Reviewer: Ariadne | 10/29/09

I have always related this song to my personal experience with a psychologically abusive ex boyfriend I had that shattered my confidence in myself and made me feel like I was inside a cage. He was fearful that I would leave him so he put me down, making me think no one else would put up with me. The part about I have felt the same I relate to my husband because he went through some psychologically abusive stuff, and that is why we get along so well and understand each other and relate to each other, so my ex boyfriend's antics sort of helped me bond with my husband (trying to find the good inevery situation).

Simon is my boyfriend. He died a year ago and it's been very tough. This song is about so many different things. Sometimes I feel like crawling in a cage and hiding. I've had to deal with people that want to control every situation. I find this song hitting close to home. I feel bullied, and I feel like hiding away from the world. Thank you for this song it does bring comfort during my times of need.

Simon... | Reviewer: leightonius | 1/10/09

If I remember correctly I read that Jason was talking with a friend who was describing his middle school years. Afterwards Jason went into the other room thinking about all the experiences he had just heard. He then wrote these lyrics in about 15 minutes. True empathy. It also makes sense with the chorus, "I have felt the same as you." I think his friend's name was Simon but I'm not sure on that.

righto | Reviewer: dipshit | 12/24/08

the whole purpose of music is for the listeners to take it what they want and feel they've felt something from it, you can point out 1967329845274 different views and state that "its the one" but in the end the musician writes the song from his perspective and expects many perspectives back, anything that can relate to people for a slight moment that makes them feel good, bad, or just simply connect. i think you have to be a musician to understand this. so stop the bitchin the about different views, it's for you all, it's for us. Take it as you want.

Great song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/21/08

This is such a wonderful song becuase so many people can relate to it. I don't think it was made for a specific audience or is about one specific thing (i.e - Simon carrying the cross, or being bullied) Instead I think it's a song that anyone can interupt how they see it and can so relate to it. Whether it's Christian relating to it, or in my case I am bullied and this captures the essence of my feelings. Or it could be someone who is jsut feeling lost and alone yet they could still find a meaning for themselves in these lyrics. That is why this song is such a masterpiece. And from personal experience if there is anyone who truely feels like this song or has been bullied like me, then just know that you are not alone, and that whatever they told you it's a lie. You are fine the way you are and don't let them change you.

excellant song | Reviewer: anoynmous | 12/15/08

i think this song is about people in relationship how they use people who they know are in love with but know they dont feel the same about them yet they play them and keep them around to make themselves feel better about their low self esteem..hence him saying the weak prey on the weaker "Fulfillment to their lack of strength at your expense,
Left you with no defense" Excellant song! thats how people are...cruel!

Simon from lord of the flies! | Reviewer: Michaela | 10/19/08

this song reminded me of simon from lord of the flies. i was listening to it [while i was working on a project i'm doing on lord of the flies] and then i realized it sounds just like his character.. then i realized the song's called simon! and i freaked.

i think it's about insecurity. it's easier to live inside your shell then to be noticed. you feel like everyone's judging your every move.

"you lost yourself in your search to find
something else to hide behind"
my favorite line.

but anyways these lyrics
"You don't know why they had to go this far,
Traded your worth for these scars,
For your only company.
And don't believe the lies
That they have told to you. Not one word was true
you're alright, you're alright, you're alright."
if you read Lord of the flies you have to know what i mean?!

Falling Apart | Reviewer: Dani | 10/19/08

I think that this song is something more than just bullying. or the common struggles we all face in our lives. I think it is focusing on those people who have serious anxiety problems. For anyone who has ever had an anxiety attack, this song applies. at the beggining of the song where it says "catch your breath, hit the wall, scream out loud as you start to crawl back in your cage, where they will leave you alone" that is exactly what it feels like... you are searching for a place to feel safe from everything that seems to be coming at you from all angles. its those things that really really get to you and make you literally have a strong desire to rip every hair out of your head. that sounds extreme. but its what it seems like. the song talks about how the weak seeking the weaker til theyve broken them, but they dont see the consequeces of it. meaning the only part of the weaker people that we see is the distraction from what is really going on inside. but once in a space they feel safe, they are falling apart.

love | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/26/08

I've just been reading about what everyone thinks this song is about. And honestly, I think you're all right. It's about bullies. It's about feeling alone. There's a Christian stance. I think that's part of what makes Jason Wade's lyrics so powerful and so inspirational -- they can relate to so many people but still somehow be very personal. He can write about something Christian but still relate it to non-christians. And yes, I do believe there is a huge underlying Christian theme. Jason Wade is a really strong Christian so must of his stuff has underlying Christian themes. But what's great about these songs is that they dont force Christianity on you. They can be interpreted differently for those who aren't Christian and I think as an artist, even as a Christian, that's really important.

"Simon" | Reviewer: Music Girl | 3/31/08

Actually I don't think this song is about bullies it may be about bullies but It also could be about people who feels distants because some people maybe in their family or their friends that made them feel so worthless and maybe their closes friends lied them and betrayed them for what? for nothing , and in addition to that they also made them feel like they are guilty.

Bullies | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/15/08

I think the song is about bullies... it could be about Simon who carried the cross (or just the title could be that) but I really think the lyrics are about bullies, because I have been bullied and I totally, completely relate to this song. "Refuse to feel anything at all, refuse to slip, refuse to fall. You can't be weak, you can't stand still, you watch your back, 'cause no one will." Some people really don't understand the horrors of being bullied, but this song captures it. I believe the title (Simon who carried the cross) is just an allusion for the person who is being bullied. Because I feel that this song has completely and totally captured my experiences of being bullied.

Numinous | Reviewer: Stuart | 3/4/08

I think the reason why I've listened to this song more than any other and why every time it still manages to send goosebumpsa down my very being is simply because... Its a part of me... Of all of us.

How they managed it, we'll never know, but Lifehouse have truly managed to encapsulate part of yourself, of everyone within a song; something that is unheard of in any other piece of music yoiu care to mention.

It is how all of us must realise that there are so many evil people in this world, and all we can do is rise above, the sympathy of the narrator is the soothing lullaby that we all need, and whether we are ready to admit it or not, we all crave...

This song is so much more than just music...

It is a masterpiece that lives in everyone with a concience.

And quite simply the greatest song of all time...
