------ About the song The Sun Is Burning performed by Simon and Garfunkel

Ordinarily, I tend to subscribe to the view that the writer makes the best version of his/her own lyrics. In this case, I would make an exception. I have just listened (many times!) to the version of 'The Sun is Burning' by the late Luke Kelly of the Dubliners. Spellbinding!!!

This song is about Hitler | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song El Condor Pasa performed by Simon and Garfunkel

This song is about Adolf Hitler.

It speaks of a lust for power for Germany, and ultimately, power for himself.

He would rather fly like the mighty Aryan Sparrow than crawl like the lowly Jewish snail.

He'd rather be a Teutonic hammer (no doubt a reference to Thor) than a Hebrew nail to smashed upon its head.

He'd rather be an Aryan forest, with trees reaching for Valhalla, than a grimy Jewish street, run over by tanks and pissed upon by dogs.

He'd rather sail away to conquer lands across the sea, instead of just Europe and Africa, and is sad that he has not yet done so.

"I'd rather feel the Earth beneath my feet" obviously means he wants to completely rule the world.

------ About the song The Sound Of Silence performed by Simon and Garfunkel

I love this song. I first heard it in 1972 then I just thought it was great to listen to. Now I am looking at it from a different perspective. I get the frustration of the character who is awake and out of the box. He is so wanting the 10,000 people to wake up to what is important. To connect and be aware. To really communicate and not just be a robot following the crowd. It is a though he is alone in his awareness and he so wants others to realize their asleep. They are being tricked by the neon light and the new spiritual god. It is great to read all the different viewpoints here. Everyone seems out of the box.

------ About the song Red Rubber Ball performed by Simon and Garfunkel

I had forgotten about this great song! S&G have been on my mind lately--50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Bridge Over Troubled Water, etc. This am, I was down in the depths of the 90th floor. A friend gave me this ball made of rubber bands while passing. Said "This is for you." The song has been resonating in my head all day. Had to find the lyrics! Don't really care who wrote it. It is a great song. Thanks.

mocking? | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song I Am a Rock performed by Simon and Garfunkel

The narrator is mocking himself. He decides to isolate himself after an emotional pain, denying the knowledge that the pain has already happened. The narrator mocks himself, since he knows he can't be alone forever, even though he feels like it's all he wants. It's ego mocking id.

Vietnam | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song The Sound Of Silence performed by Simon and Garfunkel

We studied this song in my public speaking class. I believe It's about the vets coming home from vietnam and how they viewed the world after what they had been through and how they were treated by others.

------ About the song April Come She Will performed by Simon and Garfunkel

You know you really should try to give credit by posting the copyright information here for this song. A lot of people would appreciate that, since by posting lyrics, people who want to perform or record the song can cite that information.

Let's all call for and support a lyrics site that credits copyright info so we can have integrity with other peoples' works.

Anyway, great song. Short, but very sweet.

Isolation out of fear | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song I Am a Rock performed by Simon and Garfunkel

I'm not sure why a few people here think there's a mocking tone about the song. The narrator (the 'I') is simply recognizing that they have been hurt and they'd rather isolate themself than feel pain again. A rock becomes hard and stubborn, and an island is isolated. His room of books and poetry is a safe place; they are his company as he has steeled himself against reaching out to others, e.g. falling in love again, and taking risks.

Paul Simon is a poet - so many great lyrics. S&G wrote beautiful songs.

Name Confusion... | Reviewer: Celia--JUST Celia
------ About the song Cecilia performed by Simon and Garfunkel

I used to go to a church Sunday school. There was one lady there that (whenever she saw me), she'd start singing that song. Of course, she wouldn't sing the part about "making love," but it still annoyed me to no end. D:
MY NAME IS *CELIA!* Not Ceels, Ceely, and ESPECIALLY not CECILIA!
This song kind of ruins Simon and Garfunkel a bit for me...but I still like "Scarborough Fair"... :)

------ About the song The Sound Of Silence performed by Simon and Garfunkel

Just a spectacular and moving piece performed by Paul Simon, if you hadn't seen his performance then check on Youtube.com.

I will now and forever hold this rendition of Sound of Silence as seen, felt and interpreted slightly different than ever before.
Hello Darkness my old friend ( to revisit )
I've come to talk with you again ( 10 years later )

Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping ( The people who lost loved ones, the
visions and memories are like seeds
in our minds )
And the people bowed and prayed: In Silence
