How I interpret "Sounds of Silence" | Reviewer: tarahkins
------ About the song The Sound Of Silence performed by Simon and Garfunkel

To me, the dream he was remembering was probably somethig real that intrigued him. I mean, probably felt alien to him. I mean think about it. Wouldn't a musicians worst environment be in a place of silence?

Both happy and sad | Reviewer: Nicolas
------ About the song The Sun Is Burning performed by Simon and Garfunkel

In three days it will be exactly 69 years the first A-bomb fell on Hiroshima. Bad news for all those who lived there then. Good news for me and my wife. We were rescued by this bomb being children on the brink of death in a Japanese camp for women and children.
Knowing the aftermath of radiation now I'm sad for all the innocent people that suffered. And so is this song: Happy as it starts sand in ending.

Not Banned in USSR | Reviewer: Anna
------ About the song EL CONDOR PASA (IF I COULD) performed by Simon and Garfunkel

Dear all, the song was not banned in the Soviet Union; rather, the Soviet Union was unaware of its lyrics. The instrumental (pop-orchestra) version of it was available on LP made and widely sold in the sixties. The lyrics, being in English, would have made little difference to Soviets anyway: few of them would be able to translate, fewer would be inclined to interpret them as criticism of the communist lifestyle. I sincerely doubt Soviet censorship organs knew of the song enough to ban it. Enjoy!
PS Another Simon/Garfunkel song, Me and Julio, was available on a Soviet LP not in an instrumental form, but in the original.

Please give credit where it's due, Paul Simon did not write The Sun is Burning - it was written by Ian Campbell, a Scot living in Birmingham, England.

My review | Reviewer: Joe Bloggs
------ About the song Kathy's Song performed by Simon and Garfunkel

I must tell the truth in this review. To begin off with it is not my type and I am only listening to it because of school. Wait please don't go anywhere I have not finished yet. If you do like this song you are very spirited. Especially if you understand it. If you do understand this song you have an amazing talent. If any of this writing offends anyone out there I am truly sorry as that is not why I am writing this review. If you are a fan of Tom and Jerry be proud of it and don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. Maybe you could form a club to spread out your true feelings about these deep meaningful songs. Just a quick question, have listened to the "Sound of Silence" if you have this is what I think. It ate up and spat out what I thought was a sad meaningful song.

Response to 8/22/11 - David | Reviewer: Re 8/22/11 - David
------ About the song The Sound Of Silence performed by Simon and Garfunkel

David,

This is perhaps the best defense of art & wisely spoken words regarding "meaning" that I have ever heard. Too often we have to know "why," but perhaps for artists they don't make things to puzzle us, but rather inspire our own creativeness to compliment or even complete their work. It's not a matter of what was meant, rather an interesting way of provoking us to find our own meaning.

I have always struggled with art that does not come with an explanation of "why," but now I think I can look at art in a completely new way because of your words. I'm genuinely excited by this discovery.

Everybody that has commented has an admirable opinion. One of the messages in the song is that when we sneer at a brother or sister because we don't understand what they are trying to tell us is our failiure. The main truth behind the song is described by Reviewer: anonymous 5/13/13

Emotion, pure emotion! | Reviewer: Solange Porto
------ About the song The Boxer performed by Simon and Garfunkel

I'm an English teacher in Brazil and I always give this song to my students as an exercise. I take some words out and they have to complete while they listen to this wonderful piece of art! I just love this song, Simon and Garfunkel brought inspiration and love to the lives of people in our generation! Thanks!
