In the desert,
where the cities are made of gold,
there's a girl playing hopscotch with pink ribbon pigtails.
And her mom calls out from an apartment balcony,
"Come on, baby!
your bath is ready!
it's almost time for sleep!"
And i wonder, who's the father...
and i wonder what they call her-Sierra
does her mother smoke or does she jog every morning?
does she drink
when she thinks about me
or doesn't she need to drink?
does she have a man
who works a 9 to 5
does he come home
to kiss our young sierra, tuck her in
and say goodnight?
and an extra kiss for mama...
i want that kiss, that kid, that apartment
i'm ready to settle down now
so get that man out of my bed
i want my daughter back now
i want to kiss her, tuck her in, and say, "goodnight, my baby girl"
sierra
sierra
sierra
sierra
sierra
i'll never know
know who you are
and i don't deserve to
sierra
sierra
sierra
sierra
my little girl
we would have been so...oh, nevermind
but i'm ready to settle down now
yeah i'm ready to leave that wrecking ball behind
I could be your carpenter,
and you could be my twinkling north star o'er the desert sky.

Review about Sierra Well | Reviewer: peter | 1/2/09
This artists first album was about his divorce with his wife and how hard it was for him...so I think they must have divorced while she was pregnant so he never met his daughter and at the same time the wife must have met a new man....the thing about this artists is he writes from his own life and is vary clear with his lyrics...
to me, this song sounds as though a person is regretting giving their child off to somebody else.
the narrator is wondering how 'sierras' new life is like, whether her mother drinks or not. whether her 'man' works from '9 to 5'.
the... narrator wants to be Sierra's.. savior ['I could be your carpenter'-- Jesus = Savior]
one of my favorite songs | Reviewer: Tyler | 9/28/07
I took the story a little different. I think it is about a man who wasn't ready to be a father and parted ways with his pregnant girlfriend because of it. Now he is ready to be a father and he wants to go back to her and meet his daughter but he can't because she has found a father for Sierra.
the only reason I don't think he left his family after his daughter was born is he admits to not knowing her her name or perhaps if she has a nickname when he admits "and I wonder what the call her." He also confesses a lot of guilt in not knowing her when he says "I'll never know, know who you are, and I don't deserve to" which furthers the idea that he has never even met his daughter(that is my favorite line in this song).
this song is soo meaningfull..its soo deep..about a man who left his wife and kid back in the day but now he wants his lfe back.but another man has taken his place...somthings..you can never get back
