Short Stories With Tragic Endings Lyrics - From Autumn To Ashes

Review The Song (38)

Here you stand seething with guilt.
Silence only justifies this act of cowardice.
The look stapled on your face cries out for forgiveness,
the one thing that I cannot give.

(Did you ever see that one person
and the way they do these things
and it hurts you so much it's like choking...choking)

I can give you freedom from your guilt,
with a flick of my wrist onto yours.
I can give you peace of mind with a forced smile.

I can give you death with the look upon my face.

This is your freedom in a life of fallacy,
with no last kiss & no regrets;
you don't deserve good bye.
This is your freedom in a life of fallacy,
with no last kiss & no good bye.

Here you stand seething with guilt.
Silence only justifies this act of cowardice.
With a short story, the one you add to daily, you are the tragic loss.
No story book ending for this fairy tale of you.
Just the one composed with blood taken from your pen that you hold in your lifeless hand.
Cry for you. Shed tears. Mourn. Wish the end.
Cry for you. Shed tears. Mourn. Wish the end.
Mourn, wish the end
Mourn, wish the end
Mourn, wish the end

Did you ever look, did you ever see that one person,
and the subtle way that they do these things and it hurts so much?
So much like choking down the embers of a great blaze.
It's that moment when your eyes seem to spread aspersions
and to scream confessions at the insipid sky parting clouds.
You let this one person come down in the most perfect moment.
And it breaks my heart to know the only reason you are here now is a reminder of what I'll never have...
I'll never have... I'll never...
Standing so close knowing that it kills me to breathe you in...
standing so close knowing that it kills me to breathe you in...
But this table for one has become bearable.
I now take comfort in this, and for this, I cherish you.
Did you ever look, did you ever see that one person
and the subtle way that they do these things and it hurts so much?
So much like choking down the embers of a great blaze.
It's that moment when your eyes seem to spread aspersions
and to scream confessions at the insipid sky parting clouds.
And you let this one person come down...come down...I cherish you...I cherish you.
Just say that you would do the same for me...
just say you would do the same for me...
just say you would do the same...
just say you would do the same, for me
For as much as I love Autumn,
I'm giving myself to Ashes.

I think it's about a guy who thinks the woman he loves is cheating on him "here you stand, seething with guilt" and she's to scared to defend herself "silence only justifies this act of cowardice". He doesn't know what to do, so he kills himself without telling her "with no last kiss and no regrets, you don't deserve goodbye". She ends up scared and lonely, and remembers when they were together, although it hurts greatly "did you ever look, did you ever see that one person". After many years "but this table for one has become, bearable" she decides to kill herself too, drowning in the memories of him "standing so close knowing that it kills me to breath you in" "for as much as I love Autumn, I'm giving myself to Ashes".
We will never know the true meaning of this song though, but everyone seems to agree it his to do with love, death, and or suicide.

My thoughts | Reviewer: Evelyn | 4/6/11

I think what this song is about is a girl who is in love with a guy, but he doesnt know it, and the 'Standing so close knowing that it kills me to breath you in" is showing that they are close, but she knows that they will never e togather. "Just say you will do he same for me" is her cry out telling him she wants him to love her, but she keeps messing up and he ends up hating her.

The Truth | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/26/11

i believe that this is a story of two people who are in love, the guy does alot of messed up things like maybe taking drugs and the girl always forgives him...but she does something wrong and he cant find it in himself to forgive her. its a really sad song, thats why at the end she sings "just say you would do the same for me" as in, forgive me for the things she has done also.

I think it's about... | Reviewer: ghostlybeautifull | 6/16/10

a girl who cheats on her boyfriend because he's been treating her like dirt. She loves him so much though, so that's why she doesn't just break up with him. But then he finds out that he's been cheated on and the guilt of her act kills her. And the girl's solo is her explaining why she must go. Though i can't figure out why she says "just say you would do the same for me." Hm..

true love | Reviewer: Britta | 2/15/10

I feel this song is a mix of everything everyone has said up until now...
However I'm going to throw in a twist. I think its about a couple who was having an affair and she decides to end things because she knows she can't really leave the man she is technically with. I think that this couple truly do love each other but she suddenly decides to end things (This is your freedom, in a life of fallacy, With no last kiss and no good bye)
She ends things which tears him apart and he cannot forgive her...."standing so close knowing that it kills me to breathe you in...the only reason you are her now is a reminder of what I'll never have" I think that part is about them being together in a group and both of them but more specifically him having difficulties coping.

Because he cannot forgive her and is having troubles and she is afraid of the possible repercussions she decides it is best to commit suicide. End it all before anything gets worse. So she takes things into her own hands (No story book ending for the fairy tale of you Just the one composed with blood....etc.)

"I cherish you, Just say that you would do the same for me" This is her saying that she loves him and is doing this for the best of both of them (no matter how cowardly it is
"For as much as I love Autumn, I'm giving myself to Ashes" is her saying goodbye to everyone, in particularly, him.

I could be way wrong, just speaking from personal experience and how this song makes me feel...food for thought if nothing else

Breath taking, | Reviewer: Deven | 11/30/09

Lovely song.
I always thought of the part were the girl sings, is like comparing being caught in fire to love that you cant have.
"Standing so close knowing that it kills me to breathe you in" like breathing in the smoke of a fire.

Lost Love | Reviewer: Holly | 10/9/09

I want to believe it's about losing your one and only true love. He can't forgive her for what she's done. He feels she cheated on him, but she never knew he really loved her until he finally expressed the way he felt and it was already too late to repair any damamge done to that relationship. He feels like nothing he could have ever done was good enough for her so he must make her miserable at best, just like he is.

FATA's finest | Reviewer: tyler | 6/16/09

This is a song about people you love with all your heart making tragic mistakes over and over again. To me this is alcoholism. To other it might be lying, cheating, or anything else. This is a harrowing tale of an extreme case in which the boy kills himself. I love "The look stapled on your face cries out for forgiveness, the one thing that I cannot give." This line is probably the deepest one in the entire song to me, just because it fits my current situation perfectly. By the way the woman in this song is Melanie Willis from One True Thing, and her voice is the most haunting thing I've ever heard, she was born to live out the role of Autumn with her voice. This song epitomizes what FATA is about, the very concept they were founded on.

a title so befitting | Reviewer: Niki | 3/14/09

this song has several different meanings and i'm sure that's not just to the people who listen to their music, i'm sure Benjamin Perri had several different thoughts and feeling when he wrote that song, i myself write music and often i have several different thoughts going into one song. i think maybe that the suicide part is just a metaphor, its rare this day in age that artists deal with the topic of suicide so openly in music(too much contraversy, overreactive parents;media etc) to me at least i've tied this song into the break up with my girlfriend and just the relasionships i've had in general, short stories with tragic ending's is a horribly befitting title, for our relasionship was short lived, on and off and in the end, it ended very tragically. she was that "one person" and everything she does just draws me in and makes me melt, standing close to her and smelling her scent really does kill me. i definatly feel more in tune with the female led lyrics (and i believe its the lead from The Birthday Massacre that sings it, but i'm not sure) but the male parts were in that i felt alot of anger towards her for what she did to me, all in all, i think i would be dead if it weren't for songs like this
its one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. <3

the thoughts of a razorblade | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/29/09

I thought the first verse was the guy breaking up and what-not like many say but i thought that the second verse might be sung by the razor blade. It can give freedom from guilt(death). A flick of my wrist onto yours is like the slash of the blade onto the wrist. I thought the forced smile was the cut. It forces the skin apart in a kindof red smile upon the wrist. That was just one way I heard it.
I can see that its also the boyfriend speaking saying he could save her or kill her with a look even if he doesnt mean it.
Its a deep song. I think many different people are going to get something else from it.
