If you look in the bible St. Matthew 25:31-46, it tells about the parable of the sheep and the goats. Read this, and them refer back to what Ashley says about doing what you are commanded, vs. doing whatever you want in life. Sheep are ones who follow the herd and never speak out against society. Goats are the leaders. Yes No Simply clever, excellently clever | Reviewer: Eric | 12/7/2004 Im dying to meet cake some time and pull the line tyler durden does in fight club "Hows that working out for you?" (refering to be clever). This song first of all has such an upbeat, happy feeling to them, to you often find yourself toe tapping to the song without knowing any of the lyrics. If you look alittle deeper into the lyrical content, its an absolute riot. From what I understand its simply about falling into depression, caused by something (most likely a girl, because he states in the middle of the beggining verse "love has started to fade")(poets/song writers often stick there main point of the poem/song often abstractly). Its very clever becuase it goes onto to state how he is not going to come out of this depression. He says this by stating he has no real intention of coming out of it with the lyrics: and the grave-digger puts on the forceps the stone mason does all the work the barber can give you a haircut the carpenter can take you out to lunch No matter what happens to him, it will all be the same, he will still be unhappy. However for those that are singing along to the song, fear not, cake has always been a bit alittle optomistic in there songs. Its as if the character in the song realizes that its pointless to be depressed for so long. He simply wants to do what he wants and he realizes he isnt going to live very long, so you might as well have as much fun as you want. This is understood from the lyrics: i just want to play on my pan-pipes i just want to drink me some wine as soon as your born you start dying so you might as well have a good time The rest of the song is just flubber to me, but its still an excellent song. The flubber just reinforces my ideas from early. I dont know if anyone will see this song in this way, but hey its worth a shot. THIS SONG IS ONE of my FAVS. It gets 5 out of 5.
