The Decemberists Shankhill Butchers Lyrics

Last updated: 12/03/2012 05:47:33 PM

Two, three, four...

The Shankill butchers ride tonight
You better shut your windows tight
They're sharpening their cleavers and their knives
And taking all their whiskey by the pint
'Cause everybody knows
If you don't mind your mother's words
A wicked wind will blow
Your ribbons from your curls
Everybody moan, everybody shake,
The Shankill butchers wanna catch you

They used to be just like me and you
They used to be sweet little boys
But something went horribly askew
Now killing is their only source of joy
'Cause everybody knows...

The Shankill butchers on the rise
They're waiting till the dead of night
They're picking at their fingers with their knives
And wiping off their cleavers on their thighs
'Cause everybody knows...

The Shankill butchers wanna catch you
The Shankill butchers wanna cut you
The Shankill butchers wanna catch you

Excuse me, but my friend who was a catholic nationalist was almost murdered by these fucking wankers, had´╗┐ he not jumped over a motorway bridge into a river he would of been dead, and like I said they also killed protestants, I grew up in a loyalist community, my father served in the RIR aswell and we detested Paisly and his hate campaign and these murdering scum, these people called themselves loyalist but most of them didn't even know what loyalist meant, they were just violent phsycopaths.

Rebel yell | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/24/10

The Shankill Butchers was the name of an Paramilitary gang in Belfast, IRL in the mid to late 1970's. This gang was nortorious for late night abductions and murder of Irish Catholics in the county of "Shankill". The name was based on the fondness for using stolen butchers knifes and cleavers to torture the victims before killing them. This gang was led by Lenny Murphy who was executed by the IRA in 1982... this is my all means a "rebel song" Learn history

Ulster loyalists | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/11/09

This song is about Ulster (Northern Ireland) loyalists who oppose the IRA and separating from Britain. The Shanhill Butchers (note the spelling) are famous for late night abduction and murder of Irish Catholics; I believe about 30 in total.
