Sexy Sadie Lyrics - The Beatles

Review The Song (13)

hoSexy Sadie what have you done
You made a fool of everyone
You made a fool of everyone
Sexy Sadie ooh what have you done.

Sexy Sadie you broke the rules
You laid it down for all to see
You laid it down for all to see
Sexy Sadie oooh you broke the rules.

One sunny day the world was waiting for a lover
She came along to turn on everyone
Sexy Sadie the greatest of them all.

Sexy Sadie how did you know
The world was waiting just for you
The world was waiting just for you
Sexy Sadie oooh how did you know.

Sexy Sadie you'll get yours yet
However big you think you are
However big you think you are
Sexy Sadie oooh you'll get yours yet.

We gave her everything we owned just to sit at her table
Just a smile would lighten everything
Sexy Sadie she's the latest and the greatest of them all.

She made a fool of everyone
Sexy Sadie.

However big you think you are
Sexy Sadie.

@ Ben Antell: I'm sure going around condemning people's favorite music as "satanic" is a great way to win converts. I certainly would never be happy being forced to only listen to christian rock by your almighty lord. I don't know who or what got it into your head that the Beatles were satanic but you've clearly lost all taste in music and i feel sorry for you.

Sexie Mia?? | Reviewer: Seattle | 8/10/11

Come on! Like John Lennon never came on to a girl, besides his wife!!?? The way I see it, in the first place, how could Mia Farrow NOT think that the dude ( or the set-up) would want to jump her bones? I mean, firstly the era was ripe for this, then he takes her into a cave, they mediate together -his style- and then he hugs her. However, it appears as though a rival of Maharishi set him up for this (I don't know the details) Lennon was ticked , but later on apologized to the guru. What could someone expect- a white girl in a cave with a guru? PLEASE!!

I honestly do not at all understand how you guys are getting most of this stuff. First off, I don't see how this song makes the Beatles satanist or why you would burn their albums(even George Harrison said that you'd have to buy the album to burn it, so its only paying the band) I suppose you're titled to opinion, but only to a certain extent. They may have never mixed religion with their work but they never said drink from the blood of dear satan in any of their songs. I'm also a self-proclaimed Beatle fan and have read up on alot of their work. According to most people; this song was made after John left India and felt a little betrayed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi from a sex scandal(look it up yourself). However George found using Maharishi's name to be disrespectful. He had John change the lyrics to Sexy Sadie instead of Maharishi. What I'm really stumped on is the review pointing the finger towards John's Boosting of himself. This doesn't really make sense, unless John turns out to have a serious form of Schizophrenia. Throughout this song he is scolding "Sexy Sadie" for her/his inappropiate sexual life. For him to be praising himself would be totally opposite from what the lyrics imply. Maybe self guilt, but that wouldn't be praising now would it?

I may seems a bit inappropiate myself for calling your opinions out, but some should be held from making people's minds set to something extreme and just wrong from most facts. I just thought I'd throw my well researched hat in the ring and try to bind my own readers. Sorry if I irritate anyone, however it was needed.

Who are we too know the why of this song? | Reviewer: another beatles fan | 5/2/11

boy i am not saying god is bad or something like that but, hey! isnt it a bit crazy all of that?satananic... Boy how could you comunicate to god in a such direct way?Oh i almost forgot, isnt it a bit strange talking (in the way Lennon did) about another man "just a smile would lighten everything", "the world was wating just for you", " a sunny day the world was waiting for a lover" and she came along and turned on everyone". I think they were about himself but only He knows (Lennon not god).

Shortly after my review, I burned my record collection after speaks with God. I never even knew that the Beatles were satanists, but I do now, yuk! I don't miss any of it. I can't even listen to worldly garbage any more. It's funny how God can change you completely. I get absolutely no satisfaction listening to secular music, which I used to love!!!

I grew up listening to all kinds of music, so I never even realized that it was cursed, until God told me. Now that I know Holy Spirit better, everything in my life has changed and I have been constantly happy and at peace for many years. Nothing gets me down any more!!! It's a miracle, and I am so grateful, woohooo! I recommend Jesus to everybody, He is alive and so cool!

music is like abstrct art and I interpret this song like this | Reviewer: another Beatle fan | 4/24/11

I belive in what you say "that the maharishi wanted to rape Mia" but I also think that its about john's slowly growing ego just hear it well, it is obiously him say to the world how big was he becoming (at least unconciously), he also wrote it alone and actually the songs he wrote alone were about himself or some event in his life and a there is clue "just a smile would lighten everything" (in those times every girl loved his smile) and "she is the greatest of them all" (his the greatest of the Beatles?)

HAHAHAHA! Give me a break! | Reviewer: Luminous Numinous | 1/20/11

If you believe this song is about the Mahareshi Mahesh Yogi, you probably also believe Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is about a picture little Julian drew....and I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd LOVE to sell you on the cheap. George & John are f**king with you. Get real! The song is about LSD 25

Alex | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/8/10

I am in the middle of reading the Bio on John, and yes, John called Alex a "guru" but not in the same sense, more in the fact that he was teaching John a lot about things he didn't know, not that he was anything close to the Maharishi. There is no mention in John's bio about Alex causing The Beatles to leave, but just that some females (Mia wasn't mentioned as one of them) had accused the Maharishi of coming on to them. Overall, John had felt that the Maharishi was keeping something from him, and not telling him The Answer, which John despretly needed at the time. Thus the song "Everyone's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" (The monkey also referring to the monkeys that would steal his lunch).

From Mia Farrow's book The Beatles in Rikesh | Reviewer: Ben Antell | 9/30/09

Mia would later recount in her autobiographical book 'What Falls Away' that one day the Maharishi invited her to meditate with him, alone in his cave-like meditation room, in the basement of his bungalow. When they finished, and were standing up in the darkness, he wrapped his "hairy arms" around her in an embrace. Was it sexual or not? For sure, Mia felt it was. She bolted from the room, hurriedly packed her bags, quickly said goodbye to Prudence, and was out the ashram gate and gone. Sexual or not, the whole issue of the Maharishi's sexuality would later result in John and George leaving the ashram, and the Beatles leaving the Maharishi behind.

PS. I no longer listen to the Beatles or any secular music, it's too boring.

Lots of mistakes here, guys. Get on Wikipedia or read the autobiographies, including Yoko Ono's. Lennon later apologized to Maharishi. And, McCartney and Ringo both are BIG advocates for the David Lynch Foundation, which brings Transcendental Meditation into public schools. They recently had a benefit concert...

Paul Mcartney: Maharishi Innocent Of Sexy Sadie Jacket | Reviewer: Robby | 11/2/07

In Paul Mcartney's biography, called "Paul McCartney : Many Years from Now" Paul says that a Greek character named Alex Mardis? was accepted as by John as "The Beatle's Guru." But after the Beatles met Maharishi, Alex's Guruship was threatened. When the Beatles went with Maharishi to India, Alex, burning with envy went there and began instigating to separate Maharishi from the Beatles. It was Alex's accusations and conspiratorial activities that turned the Beatles against the Maharishi. Alex was later exposed as a fraud. In Paul's own words,"It turned out that Alex had a subscription to Scientific American and we didn't, so he was able to wow us with common knowledge."

Mcartney: Maharishi Innocent Of Sexy Sadie Jacket | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/2/07

Many people have heard that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi let the Beatles down by flirting with Mia Farrow. These accusations led to both John Lennon and George Harrison to dismiss the Maharishi as a Cheater. It was at this point that John Lennon wrote the song "Sexy Sadie." According to George Harrison, John originally called the song, "Maharishi, Maharishi What Have You Done." But George convinced John to change the title to "Sexy Sadie, what have you done." Though both Beatles left disappointed, it now turns out that Maharishi was innocent of the charge.Thank God for George's foresight.

His scam was exposed when the studio he built for the Beatles didn't work and they were forced to rebuild it from scratch. It is also interesting to note that Alex claimed to be closely connected to Greek Intelligence Agencies, a step away from the CIA.

So after all these years, it is high time that these false accusations are exposed. According to Paul Mcartney, who never was nor is a follower) Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was innocent and was set up by an envious false guru named Alex.

Sexy Sadie ode to Maharishi | Reviewer: Ben Antell | 7/30/06

This is a really cool low tempo rock song by John Lennon.

It's one of my fav. tracks on the White Album. I din't realize at first that it was about the Maharishi. John was afraid to use the Maharishi's own name so he called him Sexy Sadie, because the Maharishi tried to rape Mia Farrow while the Beatles were meditating in India.
