Seek Up Lyrics - Dave Matthews Band and Dave Matthews

Review The Song (7)

Sometimes I feel like I'm falling
Fall back again, fall back again,
Fall back again, fall back again

Oh, life it seems a struggle between
what we see and what we do
Well I'm not going to change my ways
just to please you or appease you
Inside a crowd, five billion proud
willing to punch it out
Right, wrong, weak, strong
ashes to ashes all fall down
Look around about this round about
this merry-go-round and around
Well If at all God's gaze upon us falls
it's with a mischievous grin, look at him

Forget about the reasons and
sponsored links
the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that
our emotions can be swept away
Forget about being guilty
we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Late at night with TV's hungry child
his belly swells
Well, for the price of a coke or a smoke
I could keep alive those hungry eyes
Man, take a look again, take a look again
Eveyday things change
Basically they stay the same

Forget about the reasons and
the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that
our emotions can be kept at bay
Forget about being guilty
we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

You seek up an emotion
and your cup is overflowing
You seek up on emotion,
sometimes your well is dry
You seek up a big monster
for him to fight your wars for you
But when he finds his way to you, the devil's not
going, "Ha ha, ha ha"

(Say, oh say)

Oh look at me in my fancy car
and my bank account
Oh, how I wish I could take it all down
into my grave, God knows I'd save and save
Man, take a look again, take a look again
things you have collected, well in the end piles up
to one big nothing, one big nothing at all

Forget about the reasons and
the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that
our emotions can be swept away
Intentions are not wicked, don't be tricked into thinking so
And soon we will all find our lives swept away

You seek up an emotion
and your cup is overflowing
You seek up an emotion,
sometimes your well is dry
You seek up a big monster
for him to fight your wars for you
But when he finds his way to you, the devil's not
going, "Ha ha, ha ha"

Fall back again, fall back again
Fall back again, fall back again

Totally disagree with the first two posters. The horns of LeRoi originally and now Jeff and Rashawn are what make the song. A perfect example is on Live at Red Rocks '95. It's the opening song on the album and LeRoi absolutely dominates the first three minutes of the song. And then the outro he likewise crushes. Without the horns Seek Up is not the same.

Simply Beautiful | Reviewer: Jerry | 5/13/13

In my years of being a DMB listener never i had heard this song for x or y reason.
But it seems that their songs always find a way to find me when i need them most instead and this is a perfect example.
This song is simple deep and beautiful, it takes you from calm to a overcharge of emotions and feelings and then it lets you fall in its majestic crafted notes. It tackled my mood like if it knew how i was feeling.
It became an instant classic for my music collection.

Regards good music listeners.

Jerry.

Flow of Feeling | Reviewer: Chip | 4/25/10

SEEK UP is one of those musical masterpieces that is simple yet complex. The subtle nuances give it a sound that intrigues but the raw lyrics cut to the core of the listener's being. A far out introspective experience that leaves me feeling as though my heart has been turned over in smooth hands only to be laid gently back down on its tumultous bed of emotion with a new sense of understanding and fresh vigor.

On the night after the passing of Leroi Moore, the crowd started chanting "LeRoi, LeRoi" and then the band opened up with Seek Up. By far one of the more deeper songs in there discography but a 17 minute run of Seek Up started the night right and feeling the emotions coming from not only the band but the fans was dynamic. Peace to you all

Without question this song is his best in every disk... through your life there will only be a couple of songs that resonate in you down to your soul, for me this is definately one of those....

Brilliant song ... | Reviewer: Nathanial | 12/6/07

The previous reviewer hit the nail directly on the head - even down to the most sublime version readily available: Live at Luther College, Disc 2, Track 5. Not only am I grateful for this song but also for the common thread that runs through and between the souls who resonate deeply with this song. It's these circumstances that help to soothe my soul when the reality of these times is just a little too much to bear ... peace.

MY SOUL LIVES IN THIS SONG | Reviewer: betty | 11/1/07

It is very easy, yet very difficult for me to put into words how this song has been a prayer for me recently. SEEK UP has helped me through some real-life situations which I have little or no control over, yet are affecting me deeply. Further, I have been able to share this song with friends of mine who speak of similar feelings and situations to which the song refers. If you listen to this song, I have found my DEAREST version is on the Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds LIVE (I think it's from the Warehouse edition; it's song number 5). The beauty of this whole concert is that Dave's voice is MUSIC in itself, and the simpler, yet profound artisty of Dave and Tim in the instrumentation, i.e. mostly guitars, is MUSIC. There is a combination of sublime elements of music and emotion and love with this version of SEEK UP and within this concert version. LISTEN TO IT. IT WILL MOVE YOU.
