Tonight, we're the sea and the salty breeze
the milk from your breast is on my lips
and lovelier words from your mouth to me
when salty my sweat and fingertips
Our hands they seek the end of afternoon
My hands believe and move over you
Tonight, we're the sea and
the rhythm there
the waves and the wind and night is black
tonight we're the scent of your
long black hair
spread out like your breath
across my back
Your hands they move like waves over me
beneath the moon, tonight, we're the sea

Review about Sea And The Rhythm beautiful | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/5/09
i just bought the song, and immediately looked up the lyrics...
they're beautiful. there's really no other word to describe them better, the whole song forces every sense and feel and emotion into your mind whether you were ready or not. i think its a beautiful song about making love, love becoming so necessary and natural and massive just like the ocean and natural rythms
the rhythm | Reviewer: Bailey | 9/26/09
I can picture it too. Perfectly.
Closing my eyes I feel the song. I feel the rhythm; I feel it flow through me. I would like nothing more than to think that this song was written for me, and someone loves me so much as to create a piece of art in my honor. But alas, no such luck.
Inefável | Reviewer: Liz | 9/19/09
I think from the author's point of view it's about mother and child. But I personally believe you should take out of music (and any other form of art), whatever you please. And to me, this song is about two people, in love and much more, and their intimate moment together. If I close my eyes, I can see and feel every move, touch, and feeling described in this song.
It's definitely my favorite of Iron & Wine's, so far.
beautiful. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/17/09
i read the lyrics to this song before i actually heard it and i have never been so moved by something in my life - every other love song i listen to now sounds silly.
i never got the mother/son thing from "the milk from your breast is on my lips"; i immediately understood it as the experience of making love to his wife, the mother of his children. the words and the music have a maturity that seems to transcend young lust.
such a beautiful song. way, way up on my top five.

I wish someone would write so beautifully in regaurds to me. I hope that woman feels beauty and love every second of the day, because this song makes it all seem so true and genuine and that the human mind isn't always a let down or a waste. It's so perfectly written and sung.
Much to it | Reviewer: Anonymous II | 1/6/09
The poetry is so beautiful- it's like if you were to read this in a book, the words would come out in much the same rhythm as they do with that music.
I think it's definitely a love (emotional and physical) song, it includes nature, nurture, need, contentment. It's perfection.
Awesome song! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/31/08
I think that is about the first time a couple are having sex, or something like that, but not sure, because the part "the milk from your breast is on my lips", makes me think that is also about a mother and his new born...idk...great song anyways
