Scorpions Lyrics

At the start of the new millennium and exactly 35 years
since the foundation of Germany’s most successful hard rock
band of all time, SCORPIONS Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker
and Matthias Jabs can look back together on a spectacular
career in the international music business.Like many
youngsters born in post-war Germany, Klaus Meine and Rudolf
Schenker were influenced by the music and other
life-enhancing delights imported into their homeland by
American GI’s – Elvis Presley, chewing gum, blue jeans and
leather jackets, but most of all More...

THE Quintessential Unrequited-Love Song | Reviewer: FaireMaiden
------ About the song Still Loving You performed by Scorpions

For anyone who has love and lost, this is the quintessential song of unrequited love. Regret and heartache infuse this song with Schenker's genius... he makes that guitar weep. Buchholz' bass-line keeps us rooted-- there is no escape from our despair. And Klaus Meine's vocals convey so tragically the stunned disbelief that it's 'OVER'... and the pitiful, shame-filled 'begging-on-one's-knees' that everyone who has ever loved like this has been reduced to. Yes. I speak from experience.

He starts off hopeful, but by the end of the song, one comes to understand that 'it's never gonna happen'. Which, of course, brings us to the fact that 'you can never go back' and undo the damage done; for the 'other' has reached a 'point-of-no-return' and emotionally walked away. There is no way to get back the 'feelings' of exuberant love one felt in the beginning of a love affair.

This song absolutely captures the old quip, 'the first cut is the deepest'; for, anyone who has so loved and lost, will never love like this again... so fully, so completely, so vulnerably. Never again will they trust their heart so utterly to another. And there is a grief in that all its own; for it is the death of one's 'romantic' notions of 'love everlasting'... the death of trusting that the 'beloved' cannot/will not ever hurt you, abandon you, change their mind/heart about you. It is the death of blind trust... the death of our innocence.

Kudos to the Scorpion’s for so giving such a powerful voice to the shock, sorrow, and heartache of unrequited love to help us thru the healing process.

In my parent's time, the quintessential song of unrequited love was, 'The Man That Got Away', sung best by Judy Garland.

Alas, one more song that captures such unrequited heartache is Melissa Etheridge's, 'I'm The Only One'.

I do not consider any of these songs, 'Love Songs'. For me, they are songs of the pain of co-dependency-- useful as we go thru the grieving process, (as we can easily relate, and cry our eyes out, to them); but to be discarded from our repertoire as we become healed, wiser, and ready for real love to enter our life. Otherwise, we remain trapped in the past.

As far as I'm concerned, the best love song ever written is 'Ebb Tide' as recorded by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers.
