Legendary....a blues/rock institution....true
innovators....These are just a few of the ways SAVOY BROWN
has been described over the past thirty years by music
critics and fans.
One of the earliest of British blues bands, SAVOY
BROWN (with founder guitarist and longtime member Kim
Simmonds at the helm) helped launch the UK blues/rock
movement that paved the way for such acts as Led Zeppelin.
The band recorded their first singles for Mike
Vernon's Purdah label in 1966 and quickly followed up with

I was only 17 at the time and lived north and east of the Grande by 70 miles. I was doing LSD when I seen them. I am now 58 and I swear that I can still see them like it was yesterday. out standing.

------ About the song Tell Mama performed by Savoy Brown
This was one of my all time blues favorites. Off the "Street corner talkin"
album, has some fine slide guitar. These guys paved the road for blues/rockers! They go way back. I grew up listening to them . Check out you-tube, tell mama and several other hits by savoy brown can be heard there!

------ About the song Leavin' Again performed by Savoy Brown
guitar solos in this song are about as good as it gets. Simmons drives it home, especially in near the end of the solo where he comes in hare charging after the soft Dave Peverett accompaniment. classic and unparalleled.
I can't believe this song is so neglected. The intense bluesy mood overcomes by far many technically excellent but much less songs by Savoy Brown that are much more well known. Very difficult to sing, but can give a boost to a cover-band's repertoire.
