Savior Lyrics - Rise Against

Review The Song (30)

It kills me not to know this but I've all but just forgotten
What the color of her eyes were and her scars or how she got them
As the telling signs of age rain down a single tear is dropping
Through the valleys of an aging face that this world has forgotten
There is no reconciliation that will put me in my place
And there is no time like the present to drink these draining seconds
But seldom do these words ring true when I'm constantly failing you
Like walls that we just can't break through until we disappear

So tell me now
If this ain't love then how do we get out?
Because I don't know
That's when she said I don't hate you boy
I just want to save you while there's still something left to save
That's when I told her I love you girl
But I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have

But the day pressed on like crushing weights
For no man does it ever wait
Like memories of dying days
That deafen us like hurricanes
Bathed in flames we held the brand
Uncurled the fingers in your hand
Pressed into the flesh like sand
Now do you understand?

So tell me now
If this ain't love then how do we get out?
Because I don't know
That's when she said I don't hate you boy
I just want to save you while there's still something left to save
That's when I told her I love you girl
But I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have

1000 miles away
There's nothing left to say
But so much left that I don't know
We never had a choice
This world is too much noise
It takes me under
It takes me under once again
I don't hate you
I don't hate you, no

So tell me now
If this ain't love then how do we get out?
Because I don't know
That's when she said I don't hate you boy
I just want to save you while there's still something left to save
That's when I told her I love you girl
But I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have

I don't hate you
I don't hate you, no

Song meaning: | Reviewer: Krow | 1/19/12

As everybody else said, I love this song.

I belive that this song is about a woman who's trying to find that "mr.right" and looks toward a criminal of some sort. a guy who she really likes, but hate's the life he's chosen. she trys to turn him, he realizes, and bails while there's still time.

So much more | Reviewer: Kevin | 1/25/12

Think about the animals in the video.. an elephant(republican party) and a polar bear(self explanatory) and the elephant pushes the bear out like hes nothing then when its the elephant down the bear is there to help him and FORGIVE him. its about forgiveness over all. not just relationships i mean come on.. listen to other rise songs and you start to decipher the meaning.

This song is amazing! the only thing that totally sucks about it is when your trying to takt an English test and you've got it stuck in your head!!And because this song is so awesome, there's no room for anything else, so you can't take the test, so you fail! bottom line: if you know this song, your grades are screwed!

To me the song is about a couple that has been through alot together. They have love for one another but feel like they have caused more harm than good. Their relationship just kept spiraling down until it keeps draining the life out of both of them. I don't think they put blame on each other but feel like they need to do something before there is nothing left and all is totally destroyed because of the inadequacey that is there towards one another.....as in the blame they put on theirselves like they can't meet up to each others standards. The relationship probably started out really good and now before they could even turn around ,they look back and have no answer to how it has ended up this way or how their relationship has become to what it is.No blame or fault though, just like the realization of an unsound agreement within.

This song already holds a great meaning to me. It always has and I really enjoy Rise Against's music. To me, as highlighted before, this song represents forgiveness. But I don't feel it's about a relationship gone sour either. I believe this song is about him looking back on someone that had meant a lot to him. I think that he's reliving a time in life that he lost someone very important to him due to self harm, she'd tried as hard as she could to help him but he knew that it wouldn't work but it was too incredibly difficult for him to find out how to let her go. As for the bridge I don't believe that he means literally 1000 miles away, from what I figure he's finding the easiest way understandable to explain that they had begun distancing themselves from each other from the beginning(it kills me just to know this but I've all but just forgotten what tge color of her eyes were and her scars and how she got them) and it grew to feel like they were farther apart than ever emotionally. As I said, I don't believe it had ended sourly, as there aren't any hard feelings, but their relationship ultimately ended because they just couldn't be everything that the other neded. Overall this song expresses so perfectly how I feel sometimes, Rise Against is high amongst the list of my favorite bands. They don't bullsh** you through their lyrics and both the instrumentals and vocals are brillant.

It's like the boy has forgotten the things he used to love and know about her so there is distance between the couple yet he continues to perform self destructing acts and she wants him to know she isn't bitching or looking down upon him she just wants to restore their love and save him from his fate of drugs/alcohol or anything else that applies while h continues to fight her about it the argument doesn't resolve in the song but I like to think they worked things out lol

Not So Negative | Reviewer: CoalAndAsh | 8/4/11

Unlike most people on here i don't believe this is about a relationship gone wrong. to me its more of an argument starting off with the boy admitting that he forgets to try and see her veiws where shes coming from when she says/does things. "It kills me not to know this but I've all but just forgotten/What the color of her eyes were and her scars or how she got them" and that he hates himself for it and thinks she doesnt love him anymore because of it. to which she replies that she doesnt hate him shes just trying to save him (the fight might be about him putting himself in danger i.e. fighting) and he tells her that he loves her but he doesn't think he can be everything she deserves then he talks about all the self harm they do (weather its literal i.e. branding cutting etc. or the negative thinking we all have once in a while)then the chorus about how that doesn't change how they feel about each other. the last verse talks about how that when they are separated that it kills them on the inside. too which the chorus reassures that they still love each other.

Alcoholic for Her maybe? | Reviewer: DerKatZenJammerKid | 7/30/11

I almost sort of agree with the one person on here who thinks it's about an alcoholic. But I slightly disagree. When you really love someone like that you get kind of "drunk" with the idea of who they are. So drunk that you tend to not see the other person's faults. Then sometimes after being together for a length of time you start to see the details and you realize you messed up. The other person doesn't hate you for this. You're still loved, you still love them. They try to make things work, You try to make things work. But you realize that no one is perfect. And, although you love that person they can't be your everything and vice versa.

My parents split up when I was six and my mom got remarried when I was seven or eight. I'm an adult now and I understand now and I feel that this song kind of says some things that relate to them. Part of the reason I know my mom and step-dad love each other is because now matter how much they seem to hate each other sometimes. Now matter how many times either of them has had a chance to leave. They still stay together, they still try to make things work. It's never easy to love someone.

Most of all what I take out of this song in particular is that if you don't keep trying to make things work. If you don't at least try to be that other persons everything then it's going to haunt you for the rest of your life. Now I'm not saying to stay in a negative hurtful or abusive relationship with some one. My boyfriend and I have been going out for a while and I sincerely believe that I love him. I don't know if he loves me in return although he says he does. Sometime we get in fights , nothing physical but heated arguments. This doesn't mean that we don't love each other. We merely had a difference in perspectives and got upset over it. I try not to let my emotions rule my actions and I wait until we are both calm before I start the conversation back up again. From what I've noticed if you do this and wait till both sides are levelheaded and calm you should be able to come to some form of agreement.

I hope this helped. This is a great song and I think the band deserves Kudos for not being like so many other bands that make songs about fluff.

nothing can not be anything | Reviewer: JuJIIjU | 7/14/11

the song is great i miss my ex been in a long distance everything is dark now she wanted so save me when there was something left to save.. i did not work hard enough on it now i realise what a fool i was she doesnt hate me but her feelings are gone mine are not i dont hate her either but it is very hard to continue like this she turned somewhat cold i have nothing more to say thats what it is for both because nothing will make anything work it has been far too late by now and i am full of regrets anyways still a good song

Mainstream agreement | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/10/11

The meaning I get from this song has been echoed below, but there's a relationship with 2 people that loved each other, and they've entered a long distance relationship. Time passed and they started feeling less for the other person. They aren't mad about anything, the passion is just gone. And they both realize it and they want to move on because they aren't the answer for one another. But, they've felt strongly before and they've been together awhile, so the thought of the other person being gone is very hard to deal with ("how do we get out? cause I don't know"). Besides the long distance part it's what I'm going through and it's depressing.

Thank god for this song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/27/11

This song is freakishly good for my mood. this girl im crazy about decided she wasnt really that into me but wanted to stay "friends". It hurt a lot and she kept saying she still cared. ya right but this song is amazing it makes me feel better and i relate to it.

Savior | Reviewer: Music Fanatic | 3/23/11

omg.. I love this song so much! what I have found out by researching the lyrics, is that the real message behind the lyrics is FORGIVENESS. The music video is supposed to represent how at first, the Republican Party (the elephant in the video) doesn't care about endangered species and pushes them out of their concerns, (endangered species is represented by the polar bear) and then when the elephant needs help, the polar bear forgives the elephant and they hold hands as the song ends.

Accurate. | Reviewer: Dizzy | 9/11/10

That's really what this song is for me. -shrug- It's actually, I think, the closest I've found for my situation. It's really nicely worded, too, I think.

It's about a relationship gone sour, despite the fact that both parties want it to work. Outside environment put too many pressures on the boy, made him a total pessismist and he then began to push every-fucking-one away and got aggressive when people tried to help him.

Excuse me, that's just /my/ situation.
