Sainted Lyrics - Embrace

Review The Song (1)

I've always been wholehearted,
but it would take a saint to understand,
And so they had me martyred so I'd find out.
The sky explodes above us,
and I know there's no other above you,
I only touched the surface but I found out.

And I won't leave before an army makes me run,
Big fish eat the littles ones,
You and me we're sainted,
Don't let them break your soul.

The chemicals have started,
they stop me finding anybody new,
Why was I your target, do I stand out.
The stars were shining for us,
and I know there's no other above you,
I'm rolling with the punches, I won't lie down.

And I won't leave before an army makes me run,
Big fish eat the littles ones,
You and me we're sainted,
Don't let them break your soul.

Roll the dice, cause nothing's ever sure in life,
Even though the stakes are high, we're already sainted.
You're the first, I know it cause I'm fit to burst,
I know it cause my halo hurts, I feel like I've been sainted.

And I won't leave before an army makes me run,
Big fish eat the littles ones,
You and me we're sainted,
Don't let them break your soul.

And I won't leave before an army makes me run,
Big fish eat the littles ones,
You and me we're sainted,
Don't let them break your soul.

Big fish eat the little ones... | Reviewer: Tom Baldwin | 4/18/2006

What's this? Touchy-feely bland-indy-rock band Embarce coming to the fore with something punchy, robust and in stark contrast to the less than "rockin'" Natures Law? Surely not!?
Well I wasn't expecting it either, but when this track, no.4 on the album, first kicked in I knew it was a winner. Throwing you in at the deep end, the charging leads and backing synth with lashings of distortion immediately catch the attention, wavey violins and shashing drums add to the already over-the-top effect. Then an entire arrangement of instruments meet the ears, and all hell brakes loose as keys are smacked and everything rumbles into a sprint, like soem crazy wedding reception...
With this kind of musical backing and such a regular rythm from a smiple drum-beat the words for this song would have to be truly bad to make the song sound anything less than pleasing - thankfully the lyrics are more than acceptable. The slightly whiney voice that characterises Embrace's tracks kicks in, but finds an edge along with the instruments, and lyrics spill out uncontrollably - great!

It is a departure away from the norm, and with lyrics like "What's this? Touchy-feely bland-indy-rock band Embarce coming to the fore with something punchy, robust and in stark contrast to the less than "rockin'" Natures Law? Surely not!?

The song is a departure from the norm for the lads, and offers something well beyond what they have done before - well done!
