Chevelle Saferwaters Lyrics

Last updated: 09/17/2007 11:00:00 AM

The city's saving grace
But whoever knows, nobody knows
Why he'd rolled the eyes back
Why he'd rolled those eyes, those heartless eyes

I won't pretend to lie once more
Protect my blinded sight
You'd say
For I came from a fish, you mock the place where I exist

That world is calling
So I'm crawling back to sea
Against the surge of waves that
Held us, with that ancient grip beneath
Retreat to safer waters

Still learning what chaos kills
But whoever cares, nobody cares: like you do
Why we'd abandon time, just shut the door
Why we come to the wall, claim less is more

The city's saving grace
But whoever knows, nobody knows

I absolutely LOVE, this song. It's lyrics are so compelling.
I believe this song is about returning to our original, natural, and pure state. "nobody knows, why he'd roll the eyes back" is about about how people are dying inside and no one knows why. "protect my blinded sight" implies the desire in people to be ignorant. "for I came from a fish, you mock the place where i exist" shows how the people will not the believe the truth about their natural state(and i don't think they actually mean fish, but something deeper, our pagan self) when told because the truth seems to simple. the rest of the chorus is about him, the writer, going back to the sea, where he first came from, where life originally was as an answer to internal death. "nobody cares" is just saying what i said about people wanting to remain ignorant. "why we'd come to the wall, claim less is more" I believe this line is especially telling. It is extremely well placed, perhaps one of the best placed lines i have ever seen. It is about how people come to an obstacle in their eternal development and settle for less; they never break down the wall.

Its actually "They'd say, for I came from a fish." Thats what it is on their lyrics that came with the CD at least.

blinded sight | Reviewer: Russ | 4/10/2007

"I won't pretend to lie once more, protect my blinded sight, you say goodbye, came from a fish, you mock the place where i exist"
"That world is calling"

Makes sense since the song is about reverse evolution
