Lovers Rock is the first collection of new work by Sade in eight years. But it's a record that says less about those years gone by than the promise and vitality of the here and now. It's an album that's by turns moving, elegiac and beautiful. Like the tender, acoustic guitar-driven first single, 'By Your Side', a song about the tensile strength of love, it is music stripped back to its essential elements: voice, melody, and meticulously arranged instrumentation. The result is a record of bare, sometimes startlingly, immediacy.
But then Helen Folasade Adu is a woman who has never had anything to hide. Born in Ibadan, Nigeria and raised in Colchester, Essex, where she moved at 4 after her English mother separated from her Nigerian father, she's spent her life trying to do what feels right, honest and true. Because by comparison nothing else has seemed as important. When she was growing up, Sade would listen to soul artists like Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye. Singers uniquely attuned to the complex sensibilities of heartache and hope, who were skilled enough to create from those feelings, something lasting and transcendent. Still she didn't think about singing herself.
Rather, she studied fashion at St Martin's art college, only signing on as vocalist when a couple of old school friends started a band "until they found a proper singer". From there to singing with early Eighties Latin funk collective Pride, she discovered a rare delight in songwriting. It was while she was with that group, Sade co-wrote 'Smooth Operator' with Ray St. John, and it was from there that Sade abandoned diffidence and finally stepped centre stage to form her own group with fellow Pride members Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale and Paul Spencer Denman.

While stationed in the military in Berlin Germany I went to a Sade concert in the mid 80's. It was awesome. That was about 28 years ago. Sade was & still is a great artist. Her sultry voice still sound the same today. Sade you still have that unique persona & great features. I'm glad you keep it real and your music does not have to be censored. Hopefully young musicians of today will be inspired by your legacy. Keep up the good work Sade. God Bless...

For some reason ever since I was 14 years old until I was 44 years old now, I really like sade, especially unique voice. If you hear his voice I feel comfortable. I would open the CD album covers and more comfortable if you see sade eyes, very pretty ... i love sade, I adore you.. when it comes to Indonesia?

I am 30 and from the time I was about 7 I remember my parents playing Sade upstairs, and when I would walk upstairs it was also so cool, and relaxing, and pretty. I still have those memories to this day. I love Sade.

I must say this was my very first time seeing you Sade and the show was imaculent. I literally left out of that arena speechless...You truely carry such a precious Gift from Heaven in that voice of yours which is seemingly effortless to you. Continue to walk in your natural grace gift. The band was amazing, thank you for gracing Ontario, California with your presence! The atmosphere was definatley set just for you. I was born and raised in Jamaica and for as long as I can remember, I have been a fan. Your voice is amazing and I listen to your songs whether I am happy or sad. I now live in Atlanta and missed your concert there but I did the 4 hour drive to Charlotte just to see you. The concert was by far the best I have ever been to. If I die anytime now I can say I got my life long wish and that was to see the one person who I have dreamt of meeting my entire life. Thank you for being the greatest.

I attended the Sade concert in Baltimore, Maryland on June 16th which kicked off her U. S. Tour in 2011. It's hard to describe the concert but a feeble attempt would be to say that it was awesome, off the hook, the best I've ever seen, tremendous. She is definitely one of a kind; unique, sexy but still a lady, and a superstar talent. I loved her show. Her band is awesome as well.
