Peter, Paul & Mary SONG OF PEACE (Finlandia) Lyrics

Last updated: 10/07/2013 08:37:40 AM

This is my song, Oh God of all the nations,
A song of Peace for lands afar and mine.
This is my home, the country where my heart is;
Here are my hopes, my dreams, my sacred shrine.
But other hearts in other lands are beating,
With hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.

My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean,
And sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine.
But other lands have sunlight too and clover,
And skies are everywhere as blue as mine.
Oh hear my song, oh God of all the nations,
A song of Peace for their land and for mine.

May Truth and Freedom come to every nation;
May Peace abound where strife has raged so long;
That each may seek to love and build together,
A world united, righting every wrong;
A world united in its love for freedom,
Proclaiming Peace together in one song.

Music of This IS My Song | Reviewer: Anne Visscher | 10/7/13

I sing in a choir which performs, among other songs, the wonderful 'This Is My Song'. It will be on the 19th october in the City of Arnhem in the Netherlands. Looking forward to it. Most likely, recordings will be uploaded on to our website afterwards.
Thanks to Jesus our saviour to have given us this wonderful gift of peaceful brotherhood and singing. Love to give Him praise.

Joint Sunday service First Presbyterian Church and Methodist Church in Muscatine, IA | Reviewer: Ingrid Rowe | 7/7/13

Our two churches celebrated 70 years of friendship between our churches, which are right across the street from each other. I have never heard this song before and the lyrics (especially) touched my heart. True words of peace!

Beautiful Song! Should be World Anthem | Reviewer: Jimmy Hollis i Dickson | 7/31/09

This is a wonderful song, as well as beautiful. It calls out to us all to replace petty patriotism with a sense of universal connectedness and awareness that we are ALL in this together.
If we all had sung this hymn daily as children in school, instead of the war-glorifying national hymns we did grow up on, this World might be a more peaceful and BETTER place.
I have only just now become acquainted with this song, my introduction being the a capella version sung by Indigo Girls (with guests) live [to be found on their "Rarities" album]. Every time I get to it, I repeat (sometimes 4 times or more).
I will be submitting addition lyrics (as sung in the version I've heard), which I found on Wikipedia.

I'm glad the song is posted--Thanks! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/22/07

Thanks to Peter, Paul and Mary for singing this song and the operators of this website for posting these lyrics. Song of Peace is in the hymnal at our church but I don't think we sing it often enough. I wish the people in my community, my state and my country would sing it more often (even if it is a hymn) and think about the meaning. Again, thanks.
