Review about Run 1000 listens later | Reviewer: L. Heard | 11/7/09
I listened to this song a million times over the last few days and I have never cried so much. This song has a deeper meaning by far than those i have yet to read. I am dying of cancer. My husband and my children will be left without me. I believe Leona Lewis is to be portrayed as singing from her death bed and saying goodbye as she goes to heaven, light up so i can see you from heaven. yell louder so i can hear you, even if you cannot hear me, know i am here, and always will be. and we will get through this, even though I will not physically be present. I have been fighting ths battle for 3 years, I am 26, my kids are 6,3 and 18mnths, its not supposed to end like this, but what an inspirational song for my journey off this earth.
LeAnna
I hate this song so much. But only because its so damn good and so many people (including me) can relate to it. It just kills me everytime i hear it somewhere playing faintly in a shop or from somebodys car radio. I feel like ripping their sterios and stabbing them in the heart for making me so fucking sad. I relate to it because me and my one and only have a forbidden love. We're both girls. She is asian and I am an arabic jew. This is the most forbidden love you will come accross. We have decided not to run. I have done my part. But her part is still undone. It was easier for me as I hated my abusive parents and the gruesome community I grew up in but she loves her parents and brother. I'm not letting her run away from any of us. She'll stay mine and her families. But this song keeps reminding me that things might turn out bad. I love you leona for singing with your beautiful voice and I hate you for choosing to cover this song!
beautiful, peaceful, sad, and touching!!! | Reviewer: Miliuel | 8/19/09
I first heard the song after watching Hellboy 2, when I found on YouTube a fan made video of the characters Nuala and Abe. I thought it was beautiful...
So whenever I hear this song, I think about the close but bittersweet relationship between Princess Nuala and her "other half" Prince Nuala (as well as Abe)... and yeah... how they all wanted to escape from the situation but in the end she had no choice but to end it all.
A friend of mine let it slip that everytime he heard this song he thinks of me. I have known him since primary school, and we properly started talking when he placed a bar chocolate in my bag on the last day of primary school with a note saying he would like me to be his girlfriend. I didn't feel the same way at the time, I had a lot of stuff going on, so I didn't really want a relationship. All I wanted was a friend.
And he was that friend. He still is that friend. Probably the best friend I will ever have.
But there's always been that something with us, that question mark hovering.
When he got a girlfriend, I remember feeling so jelous of her, and resentful. And when that broke off, I remember that sense of relief.
Now I am in a serious long term relationship, and my this guy is supporting me. But when I'm with him (the chocolate guy) I want to hold his hand. I know it's simple, but us being in a relatinship has always been a no-go. Just too complicated. I love the guy I'm with, and there is no chemistry with the friend. But I still long for his company. I know he would treat me amazingly if we were in a relationship. But it just cannot happen. So we both have to shut away any question marks, any doubt. When I first got with my boyfriend, me and the friend tried to end the friendship, but we couldn't. I need him in my life. He wanted me to stay strong on my own. To carry on, think poisitive, and get through it. To be alive, (light up) without him. We can't speak the words, because there have always been complications. Even when we're not talking anymore he'll still be with me (i'll be right beside you dear)
I think this song is about the end of something that will never end. That will live on through everything, through distance, through complications, through everything. So officially, they are trying to sa goodbye, and stop it, but they both know it will never go away, ever.
I guess some things really do last for eternity.

Hi, i am from Austria
I heard the song the first time 2 Month ago, (coz heard it from Leona Lewis and heard its a Copy, so i searched for the Original and found.... :)) and this Song captures me soo much , its unbelieveable what sounds can do...
The Lyric "light up" is written from Gary Lightbody because he falls down the stairs and became blackout, and when he woke up then he seen a light(was happy to be alive), so it has to mean never give up, youll see a light on the End of a Tunnel...and this he used for this Amazing Song...
Its about Boy and Girl whats Love unreachable, They wanna be together but of some Reason they cant....but in mind will always be.....
When the Instrumental comes at 4:30....OMG..these sounds says sooooo much ....there are sooo much Emotions in this Part....never heard from a Song..
This is my TOP Fav Song...and will always be....have heard lots of Love Songs, but nothing can reach to this.....
Respect Snow Patrol.......Luv You

I really thing this song is about a goodbye - someone has to leave and face something, and they don't know if they're going to make it back.
"I know we'll make it anywhere away from here" If we were somewhere else or circumstances were different, we wouldn't be facing this obstacle.
"To think I might not see those eyes Makes it so hard not to cry And as we say our long goodbye I nearly do" He/she might not be coming back.
This is such a beautiful song - it reminds me very much of the situation my fiance and I are facing: his second deployment to Afghanistan. There will be weeks and maybe even months were we won't get to even speak to each other - but he will know that I am always thinking of him/with him in my thoughts, and I know that he'll always be thinking of me...
"Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess"
Overall theme of song - a couple getting out of a zombie horror situation. It's sung by the guy to the girl, as a reassurance that everything will be okay, as long as she believes that is so.
"I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done"
First verse - the reassurance. He is only going to say it one last time, as they are running out of time to run for their lives.
"And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Away from here"
Verse two - the guy is scared, and perhaps doesn't want to admit something bad could happen. He is, however, reassured by her and realises when he sees her he needs to make sure everything is okay.
"Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear"
Chorus - he is running with her in this very dark and dangerous situation. They have momentarily lost each other. He wants to see where she is, but she doesn't really have the choice to show him by flashing her torch.
"Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say"
Chorus - They're running from bad things! She can't raise her voice as she is very scared and it would attract attention from the zombies.
"To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do"
Verse three - he is losing faith in the whole situation.
Slower slower
We don't have time for that
All I want is to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads"
They can't go slower for whatever she wants to do, as they are about to die.
"Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess"
Reassurance again. He's saying it won't be forever, they will escape.

this song hurts me... | Reviewer: chris | 11/30/08
i love and hate this song. i think it is really beautiful, and now whenever i hear it, i will think of ur meaning to it, S Brown, cos its so much less painful that what i think of otherwise.
see, this song is the song the girl i love, and who loves me back, dedicated to the guy that she loves as well as loves me. and this other guy has caused and is causing and definatly will cause me a lot of pain, and this song just keeps reminding me of him, over and over again.
he does nothing wrong, cept be good looking and making my Angel (the girl i love) love him as well, so i dont hold anything against him. he doesnt even like my Angel.
but she just cant get over him, even though she wants to be with me, and i just dont want half of my girl. and she doesnt want to try anything other than being with me, she doesnt want to get over him, bcos she has ALREADY! planned to ask him out, if we break up after a while, and when she said that in passing, it cut like a white hot knife.
thanks for listening lol. feels good to do this every now and then :)
love you Angel
My take on the meaning. | Reviewer: S Brown | 11/21/08
I think this song is about someone who is in a coma and is very loved by the person saying the words,(possibly through a drugs overdose) and is faced with having to turn the machine off.
The first two choruses are him saying his goodbye one last time before taking out the plue and when he looks at his loved one's face, he feels he can go anywhere (in his mind) with them.
The "light up, light up" could refer to a plea for the person in the coma to come back to life again (light up = opening their eyes.
"as if you have a choice" (the person does not have a choice to come out of the coma) "even if you cannot hear my voice, I'll be right beside you dear" - he is telling the person in the coma he will stay with them until they die.
"To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do"
Self explanatory, he may not see their eyese again and almost cries saying his long goodbye to them.
"Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say"
He is wanting the person to open their eyes (light up) and speak (louder louder) and if this happens they can run for their lives together and get out of the situation they are in.
The one who is saying the goodbye is lost for words when he suddenly realises why their loved one cannot speak out (as they are in a coma)
"Slower slower
We don't have time for that
All I want is to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads
The slower, slower is him wanting time to slow down so that he can hang on before pulling the plug, but he knows there is not much more time to be had before this has to be done.
He wants both of them to be in a different place and not in that situation, as time is running out and is desperate to find a way.
"Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess"
He is asking his loved one to forgive him for pulling the plug (have a heart) and he knows they are both afraid. The few days he speaks of making up for all this mess is him telling his loved one that in a few days he will join them (commit suicide) and that will make up/end all the mess.
He then so desperately wants his loved one to come out of the coma (light up) as he realises if this does not happen now he has to pull the plug and end his life to join them.
