Do not use the past as an alibi
For all of your deficiencies always standing by
Face your negligence, do not fool yourself
Shortcomings will soon appear
for weakness shows itself
Blind from your success and all of the excess
Deaf from the praise you had
Don't cry out of self pity in forcing your way through
For I will not be vulnerable to slander made by you
Blind from your success and all of the excess
Deaf from the praise you had
In a misty veil, misplaced
Where castles in the air will be no longer seen
As something out of reach
In time the dream will be erased
So many things will never be the way they seemed
And pride will have its fall at last
Her eyes fell while the shame was written on her face
When she realised that her failures
could never be undone again
You did not notice the manipulated hand
That overshadowed your thoughts all those years
That made you insecure
You did not notice the ancient shifting sand
That pulls you down into an everlasting sham
You will never be able to fight
Never be able to hide
Run for a fall, you'd better run
Blind from your success and all of the excess
Deaf from the praise you had
In a misty veil, misplaced
Where castles in the air will be no longer seen
As something out of reach
In time the dream will be erased
So many things will never be the way they seemed
And pride will have its fall at last

Review about Run For A Fall So Close and Yet So Far | Reviewer: Jeff Mullen | 4/10/2008
This song is actually a good barometer of the group that made it. The music is simply astounding, and Simone Simmons' voice is so beautiful--she has such amazing pitch control even at full volume--that it's scary. But the lyrics are flawed and the singing technique that Simmons uses makes it hard to understand what she's saying.
Copies of the lyrics that I got from other internet sources lead me to believe that this song had its heart cut out in post production. There are extensions to the lyrics that almost make sense. As they are, however, the lyrics fail to make a single, simple statement; the rhyme scheme has no coherence and there's just plain too much use of passive voice. The words come off as something put together in a couple of hours just to get it out the door. I'm working on a rewrite (which, in all probability, nobody will ever see).
The music behind the lyrics is a sharp contrast to this. It is masterfully put together to show Epica's smooth synthesis of what some would consider disparate musical elements. The melody is simply beautiful, and the band does an awesome job of turning a power ballad into a miniature Rock Opera.
Like the band that did it, "Run for a Fall" has some great elements, but needs a little more work. Both can be awesome.
