I am the person you just called a liberal wuss. What my political background has to do with it is beyond me but I guess what you lack in common sense, you make up for in name calling. I am very conservative and believe that if you want to be respected, you show respect. This song and the ideal behind it does not show respect for anyone. In fact, if you actually read my post, you would see that I actually know people who are being harmed by this practice. That girl I mentioned? She was raped last week by a boy who signed her daddy's bullet. That is the reason I decided to revisit this page. The question now is, did her daddy actually go shoot that boy? The answer is no. The boy will probably say she was into it and not see any real punishment. Unless you intend to go through with a threat you shouldn't make it. That father made an empty threat that cost his daughter greatly. I'm appalled at the way people take the health and safety of children as a joke to make "cute" songs about. Threatening a child with a gun as entertainment? Wow, just wow.

the person who wrote the review underneath mine is a liberal wuss. And, this is coming from an Obama voting, tax the upper-10%, liberal douche. Take the song for what it is, a man who wants his daughter to be treated with respect. Hell, I got that from my father-in-law when I asked him if I could marry his daughter. And, I will do it for my little girl too.

A song about threatening to kill a boy is fun? How about teaching the girl right from wrong and how to be strong. Threatening a child with a gun doesn't teach anyone respect. It's illegal. How is it gonna make the girl feel when the boy says, "I don't wanna date a girl with a whacked out old man." Then it's the dad who hurt her, not the boy. I know a man who makes boys sign bullets before they leave on the date with his daughter. That girl has more boys trying to climb into her pants just to show how brave they are. She's become like the haunted house everyone dares each other to enter on Halloween. Yeah, certainly great parenting there. Instead of trying to be "cool" try thinking about the effect your actions will have on your child and do the right thing. The only way to protect your daughter is to teach her about respect. I am the mother of a teenage daughter. This song is parenting FAIL!

This is the funnest song! Having raised a daughter and having been a daughter I find great humor in a MAN realizing what dog he'd been in youth. The lesson goes both ways. Also my daughters father sounds just like this. HA!

As a father of a teenage daughter in rural Tennessee, I can agree with every word of this song. I want my daughter to respected by who ever she is with and not be treated wrong. If not, then that person should understand what the outcome of the situation could be. Just something to think about. I don't want to harm anyone, but when it comes down to my daughter, a farthers love can change things. Great Song, Mr. Atkins, keep up the great work.

this message in this song is to not give up no matter what, everyone at one point in there life has hit a point where they don't think they can continue, this song tell you straight out push through it, thinks will get better. at 34 years old I'm so close to losing everything, as are alot of other people, I turn this song on when I get down and don't think I can keep going, some how the song speaks to me and I push through it, thank you Rodney Atkins you have saved me more than a few times now

I have a hearing problem so when I finally found these lyrics to this song I cried as I read it.
My 13 year old granddaughter has had a tough time lately, but she and her daddy are close, very close.
a while back she emailed me and told me to have her gramps listen to this song. She dedicated it to him and her daddy, they are her hero's because they are such strong loving men...

I have 2 daughters and found this song to be 100% accurate in the way I feel as a father and how I will greet all of my daughters' boyfriends. I didn't build up a gun collection for nothing; no one lays a hand on my daughters without the fear of possibly losing it. Great song.
