Road Trippin' Lyrics - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Review The Song (31)

Road trippin' with my two favorite allies
Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies
It's time to leave this town
It's time to steal away
Let's go get lost
Anywhere in the U.S.A.

Chorus:
Let's go get lost
Let's go get lost
Blue you sit so pretty
West of the one
Sparkle light with yellow icing
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun

These Smiling eyes are just a mirror for

So much has come before those battles lost and won
This life is shining more forever in the sun
Now let us check our heads
And let us check the surf
Staying high and dry's
More trouble than it's worth
In the sun

Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun

These Smiling eyes are just a mirror for

In Big Sur we take some time to linger on
We three hunky dories got our snakefinger on
Now let us drink the stars
It's time to steal away
Let's go get lost
Right here in the U.S.A

Chorus
Let's go get lost
Let's go get lost
Blue you sit so pretty
West of the one
Sparkle light with yellow icing
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for
Your smiling eyes are just a mirror for

Nostalgy for the unexistent... | Reviewer: Californicated | 5/7/13

Hey you Lucky Ones who may actually go roadtrippin' somewhere in the USA!

I'm a Hungarian guy so my interpretation may have a significantly different point of you than yours. I live in the capital of Hungary, Budapest, so the way big city people (BP's pop. ~2M) have that urge getting out of their usual urban life and leave its gray problems behind at least for a while long enough to have them sunk to the bottom of their minds. On the other hand I had a rather different youth (now I'm 28) than the average Americans or even Western Europeans, so the impressions this song makes in me are more the result of the miraculous effect of music on the human mind that can create imaginary emotions like nostalgy based on events never experienced, or the terrible feeling of missing friends you never met. This song makes me somehow feel the same when I sit on the terrace in a May evening and watch the sun set over the garden. Jack Kerouac's On the Road also has some moments like this song. Though this is a more melancholic thant the book I can feel the same lust for freedom and the incomprehensible range of choices youth offers you if you are ready to take your chances. The song may also be in connection with drugs some way. The guys were really into tha stuff, so we may never exclude that factor, though I wouldn't say the song couldn't be experienced and understood entirely without having experienced that same drugs RHCP might have been under the influence of while working on it. So if I were any one of you I would really take my chances, and with or without drugs I would go for a road trip with at least one of my alliant friends.

It's up to You! Take care!

Road trippin | Reviewer: Kaley | 1/15/13

I interpret the "just a mirror for the sun" lyrics as they are packing up to go, and the place they go will be a temporary happiness (just as day is) until They return to the town, or head out to the west coast waters.

Facade | Reviewer: Travis | 1/18/12

I think this song is about the aspiration of happiness and how everyone just tries to mirror each other, like the sun. The sun has a dual-meaning: it correlates with brightness and happiness, but at the same time on the contrary, when they refer to being on the sun, it could represent the burning feeling that comes with trying to be happy when you're not deep down. So much has come before those battles lost and won
This life is shining more forever in the sun

Now let us check our heads
And let us check the surf
Staying high and dry's
More trouble than it's worth
In the sun

Staying high and dry, meaning having high hopes yet staying free of the influence from drugs, alcohol, ect and pretending to be happy is too difficult. So the peppers ride off, and let go of their problems for the time being. That's what I think, music is always open for interpretation.

Meaning...Whatever | Reviewer: full_volume | 7/23/11

I interpret the meaning to be about traveling with friends. That's how it's meant to be, in my opinion. This song is supposed to make people feel nostalgic and happy. It's a great song for friends and forgetting about the world for a little while.
But I don't really care what the meaning is, I just love the song. It's relaxing and it makes me smile when I listen to it. So even if it is about drugs like that one person (not that I believe them) said, I'm still going to enjoy listening to it. Who cares? Let's go get lost and forget about it.

I'm pretty sure this song is just about getting high and just kickin it with your friends the possibilities are endless if you take out the common factor of complication and get to the root of simplicity the beauty of America is freedom not economy or social obligations being free and doing what feels right is what this mirrors for me

2012 / Biblical Woman With 10 star crown sitting on the moon | Reviewer: zaorr | 1/26/11

I interpret this song as the galactic allighnment.

It ties away the stealing away of some stars as per the prophecy about the dragon with the seven heads wearing seven diadems(Galaxy). It's ready to devour the woman's child as she's giving birth.

If some stars get's cast from the galaxy things could get a little interesting around here as this would be when Stan and his buddies get cast down to earth.

my meaning | Reviewer: Agnes | 1/8/11

I love this song for the way it makes me feel. It strikes me with the memories of days spent with my friends just trippin, playing guitar and singing at nights around the fire. Listening to that song I just cannot stop thinking of friendship and emotions that it gives to friends. It also says about the trip with drugs fully loaded, making more trouble than it's worth... So in some way it compares the friendship and drugs and make us choose from them what's more worthy for us. Anyway 'Road trippin' makes me feel holidays, the smell of the ocean, the taste of wind, the taste of the real friendship lasting forever.

simpleness | Reviewer: Holly | 10/13/10

I really think that this song is just being comfortable with who you are and where you are. "Let's go get lost right here in the usa" implies that he has everything he needs right here (friends, etc.). I think the majority of the song is about California and the Pacific Ocean. "Let us check the surf, Staying high and dry is more trouble than it's worth" shows that he just wants to have a good time and not worry about everything else. "Blue you sit so pretty, West of the one, Sparkle light with yellow icing" is a pretty obvious reference to the Pacific Ocean (it's blue, on the west coast, and when the sun sets the reflection looks like yellow icing). Just my take on the song.

This is a beautiful song no matter what it means, we all can find the meaning that suit us best. What really matters is the music, thats why we listen. What a guitar, what a voice, what a feeling. To me, if anybody cares, is a song of freedom and the love friends can give to each other.

Meaning of the song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/15/09

This lyric based on a real road trip, what the Peppers did in 98', when John Frusciante joined the band again. This song is about the friendship between the band members, and about the happiness to be together again. They were just sitting around the fire and playing music, just like in the music video.
I feel the same when i listen the song.
P.S. : Read the Scar Tissue book!!! Simply Amazing!

Have you people seen the video>? If not check it out on youtube. If it doesn't make you happy it's alright but it sure make me want to go get lost in the USA and if possible in another card else... i think any song's interpletation is on the eyes of the listener...

However it makes you feel is what the meaning of the lyrics should be!

that feelings | Reviewer: margot | 6/6/09

well, as many songs fromd red hot chili peppers, this song produces me a rare feelin'... that one, make feel that life is a sadly lonely way, we cross looking for a meaning, with some friends at a time, but at the end we just have ourselves. the night is comin' and the sunset feel such melancoly... the end of other day in the little insignificant person's life, as the sunset of ourown sunset comes, while we just don't notice. the cold mountain and no home to go.

that's what i feel, hereby i preffer to listen not this song... i really would wanna talk to who wrote this song, and ask him what wanted he actually incite whit that song.

feel like I'm travelling | Reviewer: gonzalo | 5/30/09

I hate the people who is always traying to find a meaning of the lyrics. Just enjoy them.

About the song, when I listen to it I feel like travelling. It's an amazing song. I love the way that it makes you travel.

Apologize me if my english isn't very good. I'm Argentinian.

real meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/6/09

hehe everyones saying how this song brings good memories and makes you think of friends... thats all good =D but really this song is about drugs. "Road trippin' with my two favorite allies
Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies" snacks and supplies... yey... and two favorite allies i think means heroine and coke which anthony keidis use to do (says in his biography too). "Your smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun" means when your incredibly high on w/e drug... your eyes look glassy and seam to reflect sun.. also meaning you don't see what's coming in or really happening, you loose your sences.
This song doesn't make me happy like alot of other posts say it does, me it makes me think about my friend who died overdosing on heroine. =(

But overal it's a really good song

Double Meanings | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/22/09

I'm sure this song has a lot of double meanings, whenever I hear it, it strikes me more as an almost sad song than relaxing one. The term "trippin'" right in the title made me think it was about their drug use when I first saw it. Could be.

Either way, great song with a great guitar.
