Rise And Fall Lyrics - Offspring

Review The Song (6)

This time you're really dead
Once followed, but always led
You thought you'd rise above it all

It's all inside your head
All ripping it up in shreds
I know someday you're gonna fall

[Chorus]
And I don't wanna say I told you so
But I told you so
Now you've lost control

And I don't wanna be the rise and fall
Gimme more or nothing at all

You're in an awful way
Sucked in by what you crave
They just can't wait to see you crawl

And you can only laugh
sponsored links
Give in to the other half
They're only tearing down your walls

[Chorus]
And I don't wanna say I told you so
But I told you so
Now you've lost control

And I don't wanna be the rise and fall
Gimme more or nothing at all

They've come to see you rise and fall (ooh ooh)
They're only tearing down your walls (ooh ooh)
They've come to see you rise and fall (ooh ooh)
And I don't wanna say you've lost control

[Chorus]
And I don't wanna say I told you so
But I told you so
Now you've lost control

And I don't wanna be the rise and fall
Gimme more or nothing at all

Wow, guys | Reviewer: G | 1/30/11

this is NOTHING the american idiot album. being a fan of both Green Day and the Offspring, I have to say that the styles are similar... maybe. but the albums are much different. c'mon, one was released *four years* after the other- they're not copying.

This is a great song!

but... that bit with "rise and fall is..." isn't in the song?

Who's an American Idiot? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/21/10

I've heard both albums, the songs have little similarities. I'm sure you don't know this but this are very VERY common music styles. The openings and instrumentals are not that similar they are just common. It doesn't mean the whole album is just a coppy >_>

i don't think so | Reviewer: fania | 2/26/09

i don't think that this cd is similar to American Idiot.
I accept that it's not like Americana or Smash, the sound has changed but it's Offsprig not Green day... probably there's something similar but if you listen to the cd's which are before American Idiot like dookie or warning you'll see that Green Day's music has changed too. It's normal, they are looking for new sounds for explaining their feelings...

Whos's the idiot now? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/6/09

I thought the same thing; that this song was ripping off American Idiot. I've heard though that this song is actually about Greenday selling out so they're parodying American Idiot. If you read the lyrics it does make sense.

I think the whole "Rise & Fall" album is very reminiscent of the Green Day "American Idiot" album... you've already talked about this song, but then there's "Fix You" which opens up JUST like "Wake me up when September ends".

I mean... when I'm sitting around dicking with the guitar, I "come up" with stuff all the time that later turns out to be extremely similar to something I listened to the week before, so I know this is kinda the way it goes as a writer. But usually that's the stuff you don't put on an album =P.

American Idiot? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/6/08

I really like this song, and I finally figured out why...

While the lyrics are obviously different, the music is very similar to the music in "American Idiot" by Green Day.

The opening starts with the single guitar, followed by the drums and all kicking in hard. The versus are a lot alike, as Dexter sings over a simple drum beat. Both songs have short breaks after the chorus, and before the next verse (Rise and Fall has a guitar break, while American Idiot has a drum break). And then both songs have a spot at the end when the music stops, and the singers belt out a line.

I still like this song, and the Offspring. But it seems like these guys just followed the American Idiot blueprint here.
