Love Is A Burning Thing
And It Makes A Fiery Ring
Bound By Wild Desire
I Fell Into A Ring Of Fire
CHORUS:
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher
And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire
The Taste Of Love Is Sweet
When Hearts Like Ours Meet
I Fell For You Like A Child
Oh,But The Fire Went Wild
CHORUS
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher
And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire
Love Is A Burning Thing
And It Makes A Fiery Ring
Bound By Wild Desire
I Fell Into A Ring Of Fire
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down(down), Down(down), Down(down)
And The Flames Went Higher Higher Higher
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down(down), Down(down), Down(down)
And The Flames Went Higher Higher Higher
And It Burns
OoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooYaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Ring of Fire meaning | Reviewer: Taylor | 2/13/12
Actually!
Cash did NOT write this song. Originally June Carter wrote this song about her love she was experiencing for Cash. It was originally played by Anita Carter. After hearing Anita's version, Cash claimed he had a dream where he heard the song accompanied by "Mexican horns". He told Anita that if it doesn't catch on he was going to record it the way he felt it. So, when the song failed to become a major hit for Anita, Cash recorded it his own way, adding the mariachi-style horns.
So yes, the song does have some meaning behind it.
Sigh | Reviewer: Ringo'sGirl | 4/7/11
You people think that there has to be a meaning to all songs. There does not have to be a meaning! What if Johnny Cash just wanted to write this song because it sounded good and it makes sense? I mean OF COURSE it's about love, but it might not have been about drugs or his wife June or anything else! No offense meant, but it's just a song! It doesn't have to be about anything! Think about the song by the Beatles "I am the Walrus"! It doesn't have a meaning and if you try to put one in there it just sounds stupid! So stop trying to make it have a meaning!
"love" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/19/11
JC was a Christian, he knew and understood the concept of Christian love. Yes this song is about "the wedding ring" but its deeper meaning is that when you make the choice to love someone and stay with it it will consume you.

i heard it was about how he was on drugs and when june made him quit he explained the pain by a ring of fire caus it burned hin inside from his addiction. but he did it for his love for june carter. well thats what it sort of is in walk the line.
true story about the song: | Reviewer: Mandi | 5/26/10
Read the book, "I Walked the Line" written by Vivian Cash, Johnny's first wife. In the very end she explains how Johnny actually wrote the song but gave June the credit because she "needed the money." Further, Vivian says it's about a woman's "part" down south. He wrote the song when he was drunk, and from reading the book, which is a compilation of letters Johnny wrote to Viv while in the Air Force, you'll notice that when he writes while drunk, he's very provacative...
What This Song Is About. | Reviewer: hugejohnnycashfan | 4/18/10
Now this is just my idea but to me tha song is talking about a wedding ring and how you fall in love and it creates this ring and after your married you just fall deeper into this ring and you get hurt from this ring it burns you because both of them had hard relationships and they were scared to get burned again sure they loved each other deeply but maybe it was just a little child crush June wanted to make sure it was real i think its a beautiful song and every time i hear it i think of a wedding ring.

Why search meanings beyond and further when refering to these simple lyrics, wich are about such complicated thing as love is.
I've felt twice into a burning ring of fire and I went down, way down, and the flames.... Oh my!...
what this song is about | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/29/09
Loree,
This song has nothing to do with STDs. It's about love. June Carter wrote it to Johnny Cash, who was madly in love with her but a relationship, in her view, was impossible. She was married twice already and he had a wife, children and an addiction to pills. June apparently saw the line "love is a like ring of fire" in a book of poems and used it to describe her feelings for Johnny.
4 time hall of famer! | Reviewer: Stoopid78 | 11/29/09
The only man to be inducted into 4 music halls of fame! Country, Rock n Roll, Gospel and Songwriters hallss of fame. If you like his music, and know how to read, read his 2 auto-biographies. If you got mad at that last comment, I'm surprised you got mad, cause I'm surprised you can read. If not, you'll enjoy imensly!
What is this song about | Reviewer: loree | 10/27/09
What is the ring of fire about, I have heard people talking and they said it was about an STD about a band member getting it and how it burned burned, burned. Other people have said it was about drugs. Which is it, STD or Drugs.
