Two to one
Static to the sound of you and I
Undone for the last time
And there this was
Hiding at the bottom of your
Swimming pool some September
And don't you think
I wish that I could stay
Your lips give you away
I can hear it, a jet engine
Through the center of the storm
And I'm thinking I'd
Prefer not to be rescued
Two to none
Roads that lead away from this
I'm following myself just this once
And I got spun
It appears you're spun as well
It happens when you pay attention
Well this could take all year, but
When it's quiet, does she hear me?
A jettison to the center of the storm
And I'm thinking I'd
Prefer not to be rescued
Oh, I can feel her, she's dying
Just to keep me cool
I'm finally numb, so please
Don't get me rescued... rescued...
And it's unclear
But this may be my last song
Oh, I, I can tell
She's raising hell to give to me
She got me warm
So please don't get me rescued
Oh, say you'll miss me one last time
I'll be strong, but whatever you do
Please don't get me rescued...
'Cause I'm feeling like
I might need to be near you
And I feel alright, so please
Don't get me rescued...

i just listened to this song for the first time right now
i loved it right away&
searched for lyrics
so i ended up here.
this song reminds me
of a situation im currently in with my friend.
every time we fight
i always give in
and let him win
but this time
im not gonna give in
and rescue myself.
for me this song is trully heartbreaking. Ive been listening to it for the past 3 years and never did i ever get sick of it. People base their opinions on the meaning of this song by the way they're lives are unfolding. If you're inlove this song makes you happy, when you're heartbroken it makes you sadder. I've listened to this song when i was inlove and heart-broken... yet both times ive felt that this song describes the pain of having to end a relationship.. a relationship where you are sure you love the person, yet know deep in your heart that it will never work out. Love is not always enough to make a relationship work out. This song portrays that honesty. That love doesnt always lead to a happy ending. As sad as it is... i have to agree with them.
Yet again. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/21/09
I think "Leks" is pretty much spot-on. I know, I know, it means different things and sends different messages for everyone, and that is perfectly fine. That's the beauty of music and lyrics- not everyone defines them the same way. But anyways, I personally don't think it's about his leukemia or death or Heaven. It's about the dysfunctional relationship of his past and how he really does still love and miss this girl, even though she might be out of his life, and although she might have had negative effect on his actions, his soul is changed for the better. It's a sad song, but it always helps me when I'm down.
OMFG i luv this song i could listen to it 24/7!!! i think it has alot of personality all on it's own. i lkie the piano and since i am a musician myself it has inspired me a ton. I also luv all the other Jack's Mannequin songs! =)
Actually.. | Reviewer: Anon | 7/13/08
Andrew McMahon was not diagnosed with leukemia until after the album was finished and he was promoting it. He was diagnosed before the release of tha album but it had already been written.
I do think that Anonymous was onto something, though. The only error is the reference to leukemia, which he was unaware that he had until after the album was completed.
seriously... it already was. | Reviewer: Mimi. | 5/20/08
actually alex.. i'm pretty sure anonymous had it right before you 'enlightened' us. plus he/she had already mentioned everything you said.
but i'm glad you feel that we now 'seriously have it right'.
I think that when someone writes a song, they try to go for a specific meaning. Like trying to explain their reason and inspiration for the song. But then I also think that when they put it out there for everyone else to listen to, there's a bagilion more meanings that this song could have to other people.
For me, when I purchased the Jack's Mannequin CD, Everything in Transit, I flipped through all the songs trying to soak it all in at once. But then I listened to this particular song and followed along with the lyrics, & the words, "Cancer, Cancer, Cancer" went through my head. I know Andrew Mcmahon fought some form of cancer, but I thought about my grandfather. He suffered from cancer and then passed on. This song 'rescued'..it made me wonder if my grandfather ever felt that way. You know, "I'm finally numb, so please don't get me rescued". After realizing that, about half way through the song I started crying. Andrew Mcmahons lyrics touched my soul. Like I said in the begining of this comment, I think when someone writes a song they try to go for a specific meaning or a certian reason for writing it. Some part of me thinks that this could be about a rocky relationship. Another about his struggle though lukemia. Both? But this song touched my soul. I wonder if maybe that was his intentions all along..
Seriously... get it right. | Reviewer: Alex | 2/8/08
Okay, so I'm only here to correct, and enlighten you all.
The song IS about relationship problems, but it can also be taken literally; the lead singer suffered from Near-fatal leukemia in 2006, while he wrote this song.
There ya go.
Great song, BTW.
here ya go! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/13/07
This song is about his girlfirend who died and is up in heaven and when he had luchimia he didnt want to be rescued because he wanted to be with her and the 'two to one' is what the power voltage is when he is being ressusitated! just to let u know i spent a weekend with him when i was skiing in sun valley and he came to stayy with us for a weekend.

This song is absolutely about a failed relationship that is not meant to be rescued, meaning it was unhealthy in some form. The lead singer is quite clearly distraught and missing his girl, but he doesnt want it back because he knows it will only be detrimental. He feels he can get over the relationship and move on.
it is supposed to be Jettisoned, meaning throwing someone overboard or something to that nature
