Trying to put a universal spin on very personal feelings
and beliefs is at the core of great songwriting. Relient K
is a potent young band that has captured those elusive
elements on its brilliant Gotee Records debut. The four
members hail from Canton, Ohio ("the home of the Pro
Football Hall of Fame!" Thiessen is quick to add).
"Until a few years ago," says Matt Hoopes, "[we] didn't
really have any musical aspirations. We wanted to learn
guitar to be in the youth worship band. We were all really
into punk growing up, and we still are. When we started
out, we wanted to have pop punk songs, but without the
speedy and somewhat monotonous beat that is sometimes
associated with punk music. Most importantly, we wanted to
make sure we had strong melodies and harmonies More...

------ About the song I So Hate Consequences performed by Relient K
I hate how most songs talk about giving glory to GOD. don't get me wrong, GOD is amazing, and he deserves every song to be about him. But I like when songs talk about just wanting to get away from our mistakes, because that's the best time we can praise GOD. PRAISE THE LORD.
Psalms 21:1- The LORD is my shepard.
I recently saw relient K in concert and they are above all, a Christian band. They right novelty songs that are easily relatable, yet have deeply Christian meanings. I truly feel sorry for whoever the Anonymous person rebuking the Christian elements of the song. You don't have to accept it, or like it, but it's there. My very Christian mum thought that the song was not good, but when I pulled up the lyrics and pointed it out, she was forced to relent and it is now one of her favorites. As to the music videos, they made them for mainstream and the obvious meaning. Double meaning songs are totally awesome. Relient k has some really awesome songs that Christians and non-Christians alike can enjoy.

------ About the song My Girlfriend performed by Relient K
lol really? are that many of you people really saying that he is not satanic??? honestly research before you speak. he has admitted to his beliefs pertaining to being a satanist and is a high priest of the church of satan handpicked by anton lavey. please think before you talk.
just because the band has SOME Christian songs does not make them Christian. perhaps the band members are, but this one and another one, 'Must Have Done Something Right', are so obviously not about God and are about relationships.
So calm down.
It's okay if they don't play all Christian or all pop. They're a mix of both, and I find that intensely amazing.

------ About the song The Best Thing performed by Relient K
This song is PERFECT! It reminds me of my friend (a Relient K fan, might I add) who I care so very much about. My favorite line in the entire song is "When I looked into your eyes and you dared to stare right back, you should have said "nice to meet you, I'm your other half"

What is with you people?! 1 there is no such thing as an atheist. Atheism is a stupid "mindset" just like homosexuality. And you cant alter Gods to fit your own ''belief''. Thats like telling a fish it can live out of water. And the part about people being "aptly Damned" is about realizing we all make the same mistakes. We are all accountable before an almighty, all powerful, and all creating God of the Universe. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you will be free of eternal damnation in, put literally, eternal hell fire

------ About the song Faking My Own Suicide performed by Relient K
Think of the person singing as "God" or "Jesus".
The only defense those that are offended by is the reference to these lines:
"You say aloud that you
Would've been my wife"
Am I the only one who's pastor has ever said anything about being Jesus' "bride"? Maybe it's because I'm Pentecostal, or it's strictly him that uses that metaphor. But you also have to take into consideration that the whole basis of Christianity is our "relationship" with Jesus.
Tell me, when you look at the word relationship, what do you think of? A significant other, obviously. It has a double meaning, and not only should this song NOT be denounced, it should be PROMOTED!
Thiessen wrote the song in a way that let Christians see the references, but also in a way so that nonbelievers would be able to relate to it.
And what if that nonbeliever looked up the rest of Relient K's songs, after only hearing that one? Then the seeds of faith have been planted.
In closing, I can understand the concern and speculation, but those who denounce the song have no firm ground to stand on. All you have to do is step outside the box.
Okay, first of all you are just wrong to think
this song is about God. One reason is that they refer about wives and why would he fake his own suicide to get God in his side? That makes no sense at all. Plus Relient K went mainstream months before this album was published so they weren't even in the Christian genre when this album came out. And about "Must Have Done Something Right" being a christian song, that isn't true either. If you watch the music video it is clearly a girl that he is singing about, and he would never refer to God as "being out of his league". Your pretty much wrong in everything you said in your comment.
My boyfriend and I had a moment where we were both hurt by eachother's words and eachother's pasts. We were at a friend's house and she asked us to play some music while I filled out an application on her laptop, so he put up his playlist. We kept our distance from eachother through the first song and I though I was going to burst into tears. We were listening to the music, and as soon as the first song ended and this song came on, we looked at eachother, finally, and I really did start crying. It was our song. It brought back so many memories of good times, and in that moment that he looked at me and smiled, he took the laptop off of my lap and pulled me into his arms and he also started tearing up. He told me he loved me and that would never change, no matter what had happened in my past. I will never forget that day, and I thank Relient K everytime this song comes on for, in a way, mending our relationship by reminding us of what we had.

------ About the song High Of 75 performed by Relient K
I believe that this song means that no matter what the weather is, he's found a way to stay happy. They're saying that normally the weather would change your mood but with God you can always find something to be happy about. This isn't the only life you will live, you should still live it to it's full potential, but God gives us life after death(and taxes).

------ About the song High Of 75 performed by Relient K
these people need to get a hobby or have some fun outside or something. What is so depressing anyway. I have a 5 yr old daughter who will never be ok, she has Rett's syndrome and may lose her ability to walk and feed herself as well and I am not depressed. I'm 30 yrs old, both parents are dead, Grandpa and Dad died when I was 8, Mom, 4 yrs ago, and Grandma is going too, but I'm a pretty happy guy and it isn't because God loves me either. It's because I don't walk around in self pity or self loathing, if you don't screw up you have no reason to go through life like that. Enjoy your life and cherish what you do with it, it's the only one you will ever get!!!

------ About the song Let It All Out performed by Relient K
it's talking about, how we might not see the bad as good. that we are going to go through hard times, the things we don't want to go through. but the last line "the end will justify the pain it took to get us there", is saying in the end, it gets better. that jesus heals all, and always will, that we have the stregnth to get through this, and how God will make our heart brand new.
Okay well that peeved me a bit. Sure it may seem to some peopl that this is a Christian song, but really? It just makes me so mad when everything has to do with god. I think that this song is awesome and we should leave the interpretations to ourselves because religion is a very sensitive subject!!

I really dont understand why everybody feels so much hope when listening to this song. It makes me cry. It reminds me of the relationship that a should end but really desperately dont want to. "I know that this will hurt, but if i don't break your heart things will just get worse"??
How is that hopeful i ask!? It's the saddest song i have at the moment.. hopeful my arse.

------ About the song Failure To Excommunicate performed by Relient K
I think this song is amazing! It's extremely powerful and says a lot about how the world is and it's so very true. Jesus loved the outcast. He loves the ones the world just loves to hate. We need to stick up for God and start witnessing more to nonbelievers. Christians are the outcasts in the world, but the awesome thing is that it's the worlf verses Jesus and you. Nothing and nobody will able to win with Jesus on your side. If Jesus is for us, who can be against us?
Relient K, this was just a wonderful song! Thank you so much for writing it. It makes me want to cry everytime I hear it and it makes me want to get out in the world and make a difference.

ok, I think they meant for this song to be kind of funny, and maybe for some people to relate, however, I think it is a stupid way to get into a relationship. Once they get over how happy they are you're not dead, they'll probably be really, really, really, really, mad at you.
