Born in Moscow, CCCP, Regina came to the Bronx when she was
9 years old. She started studying classical piano at the
age of six, and loved her teacher, but had to say goodbye,
and her family had to sell the piano, right before their
immigration. She badly wanted to continue her lessons when
she got to America, and thanks to her piano teacher, Sonia
Vargas, she was able to. Sonia was a Manhattan School of
Music Professor, and her husband Samuel Marder, a NY
Philharmonic violinist. They had invited Regina's family
for a lunch and a free concert before their tour to Spain.
After playing with their four cats and two dogs, Regina
approached Sonia and asked "Will you be my teacher?" Her
mother, a music historian and theorist, turned an
embarrassed red, knowing the family had no pian More...

------ About the song Daniel Cowman performed by Regina Spektor
Daneil Cowman is a shout out to Modest Mouse's Cowboy Dan. If you don't interpret Cowman as a last name, then they essentially have the same name. In MM's song Cowboy Dan is alive, but a part of that song links thematically with this one:
He drove the desert, fired his rifle in the sky
And says, "God if I have to die you will have to die"
Regina matches this with:
On the day that Daniel Cowman stopped existing
the world should've ended right then and there
So Regina is referecing Dan/Daneil's wish that the world end along with him. Given that Dan is a stereotypical name for a cowboy, it could all be a coincidence but its a cool idea anyhow.

"you are my sweetest downfall...I loved you first..."
A very moving piece...
The voice of Regina Spektor seems to transport us back to the time when the love in our hearts is the all consuming fire...but suddenly extinguished not by our own choosing but because of fate.
To the girl who loved me first...
I'll never forget you!

------ About the song Samson performed by Regina Spektor
they were eachother's downfall, that's how it was in the bible story with the real samson and delilah. she betrayed him by cutting his hair and revealing his only weakness, but he still loved her and i think that regina is saying sorry here on delilah's behalf for something that she did. she is saying that her story was never told like theirs.

------ About the song Hotel Song performed by Regina Spektor
I love her songs.. but sometimes I get sooo confused as to what story she is telling exactly she is soo cryptic. I want her to like write clear summaries for each song.
I think this one is about a young woman who has a "crush" (<for lack of a better word) on a man who just won't fall for her. "I have fear you won't be my fool" Like falling in love sometimes means looking like a fool and becoming vulnerable. But through all of this the woman still feels young, niave, and confused by the world's ways. She's shocked by the pain and ugliness there can be the world and so looks for an outlet. Coccaine I suppose ( or is this another one of those cryptic allusions Regina loves). She wants so much to be with this man but fears he will never be her friend and fool by letting himself fall for her.
about an angel | Reviewer: chris
------ About the song Samson performed by Regina Spektor
i think this song is about love to an angel. the angel is samson.
the metaphor of his hair is his angel-ness, or even his halo. his hair was long at the start, bcos he was a very strong, good angel. but he fall in love with a human, and she with him. they loved each other so much, and she cut his 'hair' changing him into a human, so they could live together, grow old together, and do all that romantic crap together. it starts he has long hair, then she cuts it, then he has no hair left.
this song is full of metaphors like most awesome songs. and history books forgetting them and the bible not mentioning them isnt quite a proper metaphor. it means that even tho he was an angel, he wanst mention because he became human.
the stars came falling on our heads is the angels fury at him and her, and that is the twist to the story.
the colums they couldnt destroy are the colums keeping them alive, or keeping them safe from the wrath of god.
in the end she, at least, dies, he probably does, but he was her sweetest downfall, meaning she had a downfall, and i can only think she died from god because she stole one of his angels. another reason they were shunned from the bible.
thats what i think. tbh, i am in a very! strong angel-mood, so it culd be related to parents, other bfs, etc, wateva.
i love you my Angel, forever

------ About the song Samson performed by Regina Spektor
This is my favorite song by Regina Spektor. Granted I haven't heard many, but this one has definitely stuck to me in ways that even 'Fidelity' can't with it's catchy tune. I think it's the gentleness in the music and the story this tells. I also love how it alludes to 'Samson and Delilah' so subtly. It's one of those songs that I know I'll still be listening to years from now.

I'm going to be honest: I don't like this song... It is a little annoying because of the repeated vowels/sounds (like Rihanna's song Umbrella). But to the contrary, the lyrics are actually very well written.

------ About the song Your Honor performed by Regina Spektor
I love this song because it's such an accurate portrayal of the misconception that fighting and making a big deal over something trivial can help a relationship. Especially in this day and age. It's not chivalrous, it's silly. Also the misconception that you can change something you don't like in someone by fighting with someone else. It's such a indirect and passive-aggresive way of dealing with major annoyances.
I love Regina Spektor so much, she has an amazing voice and all of her songs are so interesting and inventive.

I love this song! If I had the guts I'd sing it at my school's variety night, but I doubt that'd ever happen. It's so touching it made my friend cry. He's actually the one that showed me this song.
