Rearviewmirror Lyrics - Pearl Jam

Review The Song (2)

I took a drive today
Time to emancipate
I guess it was the beatings made me wise
But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize
I couldn't breathe, holdin' me down
Hand on my face, pushed to the ground
Enmity gaged, united by fear
Forced to endure what I could not forgive...

I seem to look away
Wounds in the mirror waved
It wasn't my surface most defiled
Head at your feet, fool to your crown
Fist on my plate, swallowed it down
Enmity gaged, united by fear
Tried to endure what I could not forgive

Saw things (4x)
Clearer (2x)
Once you, were in my... rearviewmirror...

I gather speed from you fucking with me
Once and for all I'm far away
I hardly believe, finally the shades...are raised...hey...

Saw things so much clearer
Once you, once you... (3x)

Saw things so much clearer
Once you...oh yeah...

One of best PJ's song. I believe it talks about his step-father who beated him up, and the day he could emancipate and run out of him.
The music is so powerful and full of emotion, really a master piece.

Simply one of Pearl Jam's best songs. The build up in speed during the song until the climatic end is magnificent. I also feel identified with the lyrics, because it talks about leaving everything and I've been close to doing that many times. It also gives you a sense of freedom and independence that is awesome. Perhaps Eddie actually did this. Magnificent song! Lives up to Pearl Jam's standards.
