Ready To Fall Lyrics

Performed by Rise Against
Review The Song (79)

Hold on slow down again from the top now and tell me everything
I know I've been gone for what seems like forever
But I'm here now waiting
To convince you that I'm not a ghost or a stranger
But closer than you think
She said, "just go on to what you
Pretend is your life but
Please don't die on me"

Wings won't take me
Heights don't phase me
So take a step
But don't look down
Take a step

Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall

Perpetual motion the image won't focus
A blur is all that's seen
But here in this moment like the eye of the storm
It all came clear to me
I found a shoulder to lean on
An infallible reason to live all by itself
I took one last look from the heights that I once loved
And then I ran like hell

Wings won't take me
Heights don't phase me
So take a step
But don't look down
Take a step

Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall

I count the times that I've been sorry
I know, I know
Now my compassion slowly drowns
I know, I know
If there's a time these walls could guard you
I know, I know
Then let that time be right now

Now I'm standing on the rooftop
Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall

Now I'm standing on the rooftop (ready to fall)
Now I'm standing on the rooftop (ready to fall)
Now I'm standing on the rooftop (ready to fall)
Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall

what the hell is going on | Reviewer: LONE WOLF | 3/6/12

okay i love this song and i get the meaning but the you guys never seen the unedited version not to be seen on television, in order for you to see it you must google rise against ready to fall (uncut and not for t.v) then yall will get the real meaning. yea sure it is about the mistreatment of the animals but it is also about the mistreatment of the planet as well and with actual trees being cut down while he is singing and they are playing is really a great way to see a true message "STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND HELP SAVE THE ANIMALS AND THE PLANET" that is why they are my favorite band and always will be. thanx rise against for making the awareness known!!! you biggest fan lonewolf

I can't say I'm really sure what it's about. It means some stuff to me that I won't get into. But, everyone saying it's about the destruction of the planet is digging way too deep into it after watching the music video. The song itself isn't about that, that would make no sense. The video for the song was made to help bring some awareness to the mistreatment of animals and our planet, not the song.

everybody wants to understand everything in the world and if you say you don't... well you're lying, when you all heard this song the 1st 2 thing y'all did was enjoy the great music and try to understand it in your own terms.. the song might have a set meaning.. but we all interpret the lyrics differently.. i look at all possible meanings.. and it has nothing to do with school.

but anyway yes you can interpret it as you will.. BUT stfu we don't care 4 ur interpretation, keep that to yourself.. just enjoy

I don't get the point of writing the meaning of the song. It's straight forward. This song tells us that we're fucking tards and we ruin our beautiful planet. We must stop this. We must all get active and help the environment.

Mmkay, in the interview that someone did with Tim McIlrath after they released the album Sufferer and the Witness, they ask Tim what the meaning of the song is. He says "We've gotten to the top, but we have nowhere to go but down." He even tells what the album name means. Sheesh guys, before you put up your "guarenteed" meanings of the song, do some research.

Rise Against's songs have two usual themes: Life Sucks, Deal with it and move on and Saving the world despite adversity. This song is one of the latter, and with a tacked on theme of "we don't see the inevitable destruction of earth." But honestly, it means multiple things to multiple people. You should interpret them on your own time.

Jake, you said "the song is made to listen not to interpret the meaning of it." Why did you follow that statement with your personal interpretation of the song?

the meaning | Reviewer: tijmen | 1/27/10

I think that this song is about how people close their eyes for trouble, rather than face and solve anything. "don't look down, take a step" people go on with their lives, not caring about problems. The vid was made to show people some of the problems, so people can't close their eyes anymore.

The Meaning | Reviewer: Xavier | 1/13/10

I'm not in Tim McIlrath's head but if you watch the video, it's not really about suicide. Not technically. It's saying that in terms of the environment of the Earth, We're all standing on the rooftop, We're ready to fall, we don't know WHEN we're gonna but we think we're close. I guess you can consider it a suicide story as in we're killing ourselves but it's not a story about an emo 14 yr old. The video supports it.

What I think... | Reviewer: Jake | 1/12/10

Wow... I got to say that a lot of you guys are taking this too seriously, I mean come on... If you would look at it more like a story then a life lesson maybe we would be getting somewhere. I got to say the best argument has to be the 14 year old. The song is made to listen not to interpret the meaning of it; do any of you try to interpret your grandfather's story about the great depression? If you do you got problems. This song is saying that life is miserable and hes slowly killing himself to get away from the destruction of Earth, while a unpreventable protagonist meaning "hero" trying to get to him to tell him that its the natural. Though even trying to do so he still wishes the world would change, but his attempts fail... If you look at the music video its obvious that he is depressed because of the world getting closer to becoming unchangeable. This is just my opinion, yet you should think about it. You can change the world if you want to. You shouldn't be brainless meat puppets just because of the idea of this song. Its not like this band is god or anything like that. You can be all suicidal for all I care and while you do that I'll keep listening to one of my favorite bands. I rest my case...

Meanings | Reviewer: Sarah | 11/13/09

Every Song has a meaning. But every one has there own interpritation of lyrics. Like I could think that this song is just about people standing on rootops screaming and waiting to fall. well thats not what I really think. So no one is to be exactly the meaning of this. I look at lyrics completly diffrent from everyone and I look at them in a way they have to do with my life. This band is awesome i love them.

potential meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/10/09

this song seems to be talking about how everything we think to be so great growing up in life we realize as we grow older that it could majoritively be insignificant. this song is amazing and so is a lot of their songs and has a lot of good meanings.

Meaning | Reviewer: Matt | 9/16/09

I think this song has to do with chasing a goal and getting it - maybe unexpectadly - and then it being worth nothing.

For example, you work hard while at school, putting off social gatherings. You finally finish and get an excellent. But then you realise you have no one to share it with and infact this goal was really stupid and now you're 'ready to fall.'

my fellow asians take note. we koreans must especially take note.

thanks a lot | Reviewer: me | 9/11/09

I think that this world really needs that some bands ( as Rise Against) remember all of us the importance of many worrying matters that we all should solve together. I don't believe the music this band makes isn't good but I think that without their fighting lyrics, it won't be the same.

worldly issues | Reviewer: inJCwepray | 9/2/09

this song was designed to look at the only world we have. when we're kids, the world is an incredible place with lots of wonder and full of potential discovery. but now we're older, we look, standing upon that same hilltop, and realize how trashed and destroyed it really is. the truth hits us so hard and we run. the cane from which we leaned against is knocked over and we're free falling. if you watch the music video, it really all does come to place. and at the end he explicitly says "we have one world, one chance"

Hmm | Reviewer: Zukyak | 8/30/09

Well This song has several view-points when it comes to the meaning(obviously) but to be honset i dont think any of them matter and the song's message pionts that out. There will be times (for most of you) when ur its just not ur day and ur "ready to fall" or ur under great depression OR u just would like to hear this song. but thats what They made this song for right?
I think you all get the picture but hey, this is all comming from a 14 year old so what do i know?
