Ready To Fall Lyrics
Artist(Band):Rise Against
Hold on slow down
Again from the top now and tell me everything.
I know I`ve been gone for
What seems like forever
But I`m here now waiting
To convince you that I`m not
A ghost or a stranger
But closer than you think
She said just go on to what you
Pretend is your life but
Please don`t die on me
Wings won`t take me
Heights don`t phase me
So take a step
But don`t look down, take a step
Now I`m standing on the rooftop ready to fall (ready to fall)
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
Perpetual motion the image wont focus
A blur is all that's seen
But here in this moment like the eye of the storm
It all came clear to me
I found a shoulder to lean on
An infallible reason to live all by itself
I took one last look from the heights that I once loved
And then I ran like hell
Wings won't take me
Heights don't phase me
So take a step
But don't look down take a step
Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall (ready to fall)
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I count the times that Ive been sorry (I know I know)
Now my compassion slowly drowns (I know I know)
If there's a time these walls could guard you (I know I know)
Then let that time be right now
Now I'm standing on the rooftop
Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall
Now I'm standing on the rooftop(ready to fall)
Now I'm standing on the rooftop(ready to fall)
Now I'm standing on the rooftop(ready to fall)
Now I'm standing on the rooftop ready to fall

Review about Ready To Fall
death isn't always te end of life. | Reviewer: Aj | 7/16/2008I can see the obvious 'suicide' tone of the song. But death doesn't always mean the end of life; for example, in Tarot, Death represents change. Here I think that the suicide is a self-destructive change that an old friend points out to him (drugs, becoming too immersed in material wealth, etc.). The old friend makes him realize what he's doing and the narrator 'runs like hell' (changes his ways to something better).

I can see how this song could have many meanings. I myself have not seen the video (I'll have to check that out later) so I'm just going off what I hear/read. I get the image of someone about to jump off a building, but someone comes to try and stop them, who just so happens to be an old friend of his that he either hadn't seen in a long time, or thought was dead or something to that effect
To convince you that I`m not
A ghost or a stranger
But closer than you think
afterwards, the long lost friend finally convinces him to not jump. And then they leave the rooftop together.
But here in this moment like the eye of the storm
It all came clear to me
I found a shoulder to lean on
An infallible reason to live all by itself
I took one last look from the heights that I once loved
And then I ran like hell
Thats pretty much what I get from this, although its just my opinion. Rise Against is just awesome like this, cause all of their songs can mean so much.
More than one meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/13/2008
Why is it that everyone assumes that this song's lyrics can only mean one thing? I think that the thing that makes Rise Against lyrics so great is that they all have multiple interpretations. In this way all people can find some meaning in their lyrics and quite possibly relate it to their life directly. Also just because there music video shows nature and stuff doesn't mean that that is their only meaning behind their song. It could be one interpretation they thought up or they could just be using the song to help advocate something they feel strongly about, in this case saving the planet.

watch the video for the song...it has nothing to do about a war or a soldier! It's about nature and wildlife...and the lines at the end are about trying to change the earth and stop destroying nature! >:]

Erro...watch the video for the song...it has nothing to do about a war or a soldier! It's about nature and wildlife...and the lines at the end are about trying to change the earth and stop destroying nature! this song speaks of everything that humans are doing to fuck up the world and how no one is taking a stand against it. maybe someone will be brave enough to take a hit for it one day, but until then, we're going down for our selfish mistakes and there's not much we can do about it because what's done is done.

I think this song is more about a solder that went to war and had some truamatic event. Upon returning to safety, he is interogated on what happened. His truama is makeing him stutter and speak too fast(Hold on,, slow down, Again from the top now and tell me everything.I know I`ve been gone for, What seems like forever, But I`m here now waiting). Something messed with his head and is makeing him hallusinate, causing his interogaters to have to ground him in reallity and earn his trust by reminding him what was said before he left (To convince you that I`m not A ghost or a stranger But closer than you think
She said just go on to what you, Pretend is your life but Please don`t die on me). The corus is about suicide by falling from a rooftop.
(Wings won`t take me
Heights don`t phase me
So take a step
But don`t look down, take a step
Now I`m standing on a rooftop ready to fall (ready to fall)
I think I'm at the edge now but I could be wrong
I'm standing on a rooftop ready to fall)
His life after his return is nothing more then a blur that won't stop.(Perpetual motion the image wont focus A blur is all that's seen) But him on the edge of a rooftop, seconds away from death, makes him think clearly about his life.(But here in this moment like the eye of the storm It all came clear to me) In his remenicing, he realizes that there is someone that cares about him enough to make him change his mind about suicide.(I found a shoulder to lean on An infallible(undiniable) reason to live all by itself I took one last look from the heights that I once loved
And then I ran like hell) Then it reapeats the chorus.
He remembers all the times that he wanted to die, and he can't feel much emotion anymore.(I count the times that Ive been sorry (I know I know) Now my compassion slowly drowns (I know I know)) His revelation on someone to live for makes him want to get his emotions back for them. (If there's a time these walls could guard you (I know I know) Then let that time be right now) It then repeats his former disire to die untill the end.
By the way, I've never heard the last few lines in the lyrics shown here. (Every action has a reaction We've got one planet One chance) I know that thats not what the song is about, they may just be saying that because that's what they beleive, not to be used as the entire interpritation of the song.

I think that this song is about taking a leap of faith to live your life more eco friendly. Going vegan and becoming an environmental activist all require a complete change of lifestlye...to me he is saying he is ready to make the changes to help the world.
