Rape Me Lyrics - Nirvana

Review The Song (139)

Rape me
Rape me my friend
Rape me
Rape me again

I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one

Hate me
Do it and do it again
Waste me
Rape me, my friend

I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one

My favourite inside source
I'll kiss your open sores
I appreciate your concern
You'll always stink and burn

Rape me
Rape me, my friend
Rape me
Rape me again

I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one
I'm not the only one

Rape me!
Rape me!
Rape me!
Rape me!
Rape me!

"shut the fuck up". | Reviewer: hayley huston | 11/25/12

Stop trying to read in between the lines of his lyrics, we will never know what Kurt meant about this song, because it's his song, he wrote it! Just respect the song, it's their for us, we don't need to share out our thoughts on what it means, it's disrespectful. Music is a language, but every artist has their own language that will never be relate able the same way as the person who wrote the song.

in agression. | Reviewer: virus found | 6/14/12

in this song basically he is trying to tell those people that do all those bad things to me wat u did before....... but this time he is in aggression..... and trying to tell people........ now when u ll do this again..... u r going to get destroyed (u will stink and burn) BASICALLY HE IS TRYING TO SAY COME ON DO WHAT U WANT BUT I M READY

Exactly what he didn't want you to do. | Reviewer: Exactly | 5/16/12

Kubain himself said in an interview that people over-analyze his lyrics and when he heard about that people think this song is about him being "raped by the media" he basically said "do me a favor and shut the fuck up". Seriously, stop talking for him.

Meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/6/12

In an interview Kurt said the song was about rape, and the contempt he felt towards people who chose to rape women. He said that since most listeners didn't understand the meaning of his songs, he'd just come right out and say it.

Rape | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/2/12

this song isn't about rape or rapists, thought I don't completely discard second meanings. It was in fact about the media abusing him with all the stories about his personal life.
The "My favorite inside source" it's a reference to some "journalist" - if we could call it that - that used the term "inside source" to support some of the stories about Kurt and Courtney personal life.

Kurt was constantly disturbed about the exposure of his personal life, particularly when the media come up with lies. It's something that not everybody can deal with, especially when you become a star in a such short period of time. Considering Kurt's personality, it totally fuck him up.

Personally, I don't think Kurt's lyrics are particularly brilliant, I enjoy much more his music. Nevertheless it's amazing how this lyric can be interpreted literally, and the main target of it gets totally unnoticed.

I find it curious... if Kurt was alive he would probably get totally berserk about the scrutiny about is live we see now on the web... sites like this one, analyzing his lyrics. I can almost hear him:
- fuck you, I just want to make music... analyse this... (*finger*)

RIP Kurt, you music wont die.

School talent show | Reviewer: Tim | 2/13/12

My band and I decided to perform this Nirvana classic at our school talent show. I played the first awesome riff and people were interested but as soon as they heard the lyrics they ushered us off the stage. I can not believe that we are being persecuted like this. I thought this was America.

Payback by the victim | Reviewer: Vin | 1/11/12

The key phrase in the song I see is "You're gonna stink and burn".

It is sung from the victim's point of view while they are being raped, basically saying, " You are taking advantage of me, but just wait until you get a big dose of clap from this, you sorry S-O-B. You're going to burn real good from gonorrhea, or syphilis or whatever. It is a song of revenge; a warning to the rapist.

the real meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/8/12

Kurt Cobain wrote this about how he felt the media was raping him by psychologically analyzing each song he wrote and finding reference from his personal life in his music. He felt raped by them.

It makes perfect Sense | Reviewer: DontSpeakJustListen | 1/3/12

The girl says rape me, as in, you're raping me now, but once it's over, ill be free. and you will go to prisson and you will get raped there many times. So she's like: rape me, do it, once your in prison you will know how it feels to be a victim.

So this is prbbly the story behind it, but im not sure of it because its just what i heard and sounds the most logic to me. Anyway it's not that every song means something. I guess kurt also had alot of meaningless songs. People should stop trying to search something behind each song, stop trying to understand kurt.
Just listen to it.

Kurt was honest and compassionate | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/12/11

Kurt was a staunch feminist and was protesting rape, not the media, not the corporate world, not fame, not heroin, none of that. He was sticking up for women and namely the women of Bosnia who he raised $50,000.00 for. IE; the women being raped there. He has said it very clearly in many interviews. Do your research before you judge something you don't understand. He was a very good man and it is still sad that we lost him.

Please think before you draw unnecessary conclusions. | Reviewer: kisses | 12/6/11

Why do people get so offended when a artist expresses themselves individually? I personally do not see how anyone could take offense to this song! Stop being narrow minded! If you cannot relate to life screwing you, therefore "raping" you...then you are a very fortunate person. This song is powerful in my eyes as life circumstances, and individuals mentally (raped) screwed me over. Kurt expresses himself and how he feels, if you cannot relate to it... simply dont listen to it! Stop complaining about it and find a song that you feel is more meaningful. RIP Kurt! Thank you for sharing your stories in your songs and allowing individuals like myself to feel that I am not going through this pain alone.

meaning for Rape me | Reviewer: Beth | 11/12/11

This song is about heroin. And the continued struggle and merry go round of addiction. And how everytime you take the drug you are being 'raped' 'wasted' etc etc
Kurt Cobain tended to use a lot of double meanings in his songs.

for anonymus 11/8/11 | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/13/11

Kurt Cobain conceived "Rape Me" as a life-affirming anti-rape song. He told Spin, "It's like she's saying, 'Rape me, go ahead, rape me, beat me. You'll never kill me. I'll survive this and I'm gonna fucking rape you one of these days and you won't even know it.'"

WHY? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/8/11

I don't fucking understand this song or the meaning behind it...Yes I am Offended by this song...NO one would ever ask to be raped...It's horrible and happens more often than anyone ever wants to admit...and the Victims from this crime have to try to move on from this and make a life...
