Rainy Night in Georgia Lyrics - Ray Charles

Review The Song (2)

Hoverin' by my suitcase, tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night
Heavy rain fallin', seems I hear your voice callin' "It's all right."
A rainy night in Georgia, a rainy night in Georgia
It seems like it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

Neon signs a-flashin', taxi cabs and buses passin' through the night
A distant moanin' of a train seems to play a sad refrain to the night
A rainy night in Georgia, such a rainy night in Georgia
Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

How many times I wondered
It still comes out the same
No matter how you look at it or think of it
It's life and you just got to play the game

<instrumental interlude>

I find me a place in a box car, so I take my guitar to pass some time
sponsored links
Late at night when it's hard to rest I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine
(minor scat) But it's a rainy night in Georgia, baby, it's a rainy night in Georgia I
feel it's rainin' all over the world, kinda lonely now And it's rainin' all over the
world

Oh, have you ever been lonely, people?
And you feel that it was rainin' all over this man's world
You're talking 'bout rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin',
rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin', rainin' <etc. to end>

I'm not sure this was ever recorded by Ray Charles. It was written by Tony Joe White who recorded it in 1969, that same year it was a big hit by Brook Benton. It was subsuquently recored another 20 times by various artists but nowhere could I find a version by Ray. I think someone just thought it sounded like Mr. Charles and assumed it was him.

the best Ray Charles song | Reviewer: peter mann | 6/3/05

Most people think the best Ray charles is the early stuff. It is easyer to talk about, and this is one of the reasons so much more attention is payed to it. But in my opinion it is the 70's recordings that mark him out as a total genius, there are very few people who have lived who have made popular music which has so much feeling in it. The voice ray had in the 70's was dirtier and richer, but more importantly more his own, than in his early years. There is a lorca essay called Duende, look it up and read it and you will know why I am mentioning in here, Ray has got Duende.
Rainy Night in Georgia is I think the best track Ray ever recorded, the only competition comes from live things, There was a concert in Japan from the mid 70's which is very rare but possible to get i think, and this is a masterpiece. But rainy night has everything you could ask for, Ray is amazing, not just his singing but funky key board playing anyone would be proud of, and finally the arrangement is incredible, I find it impossible to believe that it was written by the man who was responsible for all the other tracks on the record which are a a total dissapointment, It sounds like quincy Jones at his best, very tight, someone who can make strings groove, and a perfect balance between moments where the sound is huge, and very simple moments. I have never heard a better track from a studio album.
