Putting Holes In Happiness Lyrics - Marilyn Manson

Review The Song (6)

The sky was blonde like her
It was a day to take the child
Out back and shoot it.
I could have buried all my dead
Up in her cemetery head
She had dirty word witchcraft
I was in the deep end of her skin.
Then, it seemed like a one car wreck
But I knew it was a horrid tragedy.
Ways to make the tiny satisfaction disappear.

Blow out the candles
On all my Frankensteins.
At least my death wish will come true.
You taste like Valentine's and
We cry,
You're like a birthday.

I should have picked the photograph
It lasted longer than you.

Putting holes in happiness.
We'll paint the future black
If it needs a color.
My death sentence is now a story
Who'll be digging when you finally let me die?
Romance of our assassination
If you're Bonnie, I'll be your Clyde.
But the grass is greener here and
I can see all of your snakes.
You wear your ruins well
Please run away with me to hell.

Blow out the candles
On all my Frankensteins.
At least my death wish will come true.
You taste like Valentine's and
We cry,
You're like a birthday.
I should have picked the photograph
It lasted longer than you.

This is a goodbye song to his fans | Reviewer: panda | 8/30/12

This was probably meant to be the last important song he ever wrote. Why?

"A day to take the child out back and shoot it"
Here he is saying that he decided to shoot his own child - the epic Marilyn Manson band that had released all the previous legendary albums.

"It seemed like a one car wreck but I knew it was a horrid tragedy"
About the songs that did not become hits - he is saying how difficult it was for him to create the good songs and the bad ones were showing that he is running out of strength to create new ones of same quality, he knew it, fans probably didn't.

"Ways to make the tiny satisfaction disappear"
All the critics, all the bad songs once again that wipe out the satisfaction of producing quality art.

"Blow out the candles on all my Frankensteins"
The most obvious part, Frankensteins are his scenic characters that he change with each release.

"We'll paint the future black if it needs a color"
Saying that he does not have much hope for future albums and is going to just stamp them factory-style best case scenario (if it needs a color).

"Death sentence is now a story, Who'll be digging when you finally let me die?"
By 2007 he has a stable position in the history of music, but there is no one to follow in his steps and make something that would be better than his art.

"But the grass is greener here and I can see all of your snakes"
Not so sure here, probably saying that he has grown up, all his art is about ugliness of the world but now he has lived half of his lifetime and sees that it's not that bad after all and snakes = life challenges that people always moan about.

"You wear your ruins well, please run away with me to hell"
But he enjoys that people keep whining about their life challenges because that is why they will keep buying his releases :)

"I should have picked the photograph it lasted longer than you"
Probably saying how disappointed he is in the end - the glory and great releases cannot last forever.

This wasn't that easy to see in 2007 when the song was released, but now that he has painted two albums black (as if they needed a color) it all fits together perfectly.

best track | Reviewer: james | 4/16/09

best track on a very good album - slightly more laid back and indie than usual, but its from good ol' brian 'manson' warner, who changes styles with each album- the sign of a true 'artist'. cant wait for the next one, but he's still to beat 'mechanical animals' from '98, arguably his best.

the best | Reviewer: Roz | 9/7/07

This song was probably my favorite on this album. His style is constantly changing from album to album, that's what keeps him real and unique. And I have to say, I haven't ever been disappointed with any of his styles, yet.

This song was great | Reviewer: Tate | 8/6/07

good work mr manson, the part that went "We'll paint the future black"
and then went "If it needs a color." made my spine shiver

Love it | Reviewer: Nell | 6/18/07

I love the song, one of the few good ones off the new album. Eat me, drink me seems to have either great songs or bad ones; and this is a great one.

I’m glad I looked up the lyrics though, I was singing the line “You’re like a birthday” as “You’re lack of potatoes”; don’t ask me where that came from.

Very nice | Reviewer: Rainman | 6/9/07

Even though i love this song, aswell as the composition that it is based upon, i still can't seem to get around the part that goes " blow out the candles on all my Frankensteins". I hope that this doesn't mean that Mr. Manson is giving up the music permanently rather than temporarily...
