"They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
Following the rights movements
You clamped down with your iron fists,
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids,
Following the rights movements
You clamped down with your iron fists,
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids,
I buy my crack, my smack, my bitch,
Right here in Hollywood,
Nearly 2 million Americans are incarcerated
In the prison system, prison system
Prison system of the U.S.
They're trying to build a prison
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison, (for you and me to live in)
Another prison system,
Another prison system,
Another prison system.
Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don't even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich,
Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don't even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich,
I buy my crack, my smack, my bitch,
Right here in Hollywood,
The percentage of Americans in the prison system, prison system
Prison system, has doubled since 1985
They're trying to build a prison
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
Another prison system,
Another prison system,
Another prison system.
For you and me, for you and me , for you and me.
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
For you and me,
Oh baby, you and me.
All research and successful drug policy shows
That treatment should be increased,
And law enforcement decreased,
While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences,
All research and successful drug policy shows
That treatment should be increased,
And law enforcement decreased,
While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences.
Utilizing drugs to pay for secret wars around the world,
Drugs are now your global policy,
Now you police the globe,
I buy my crack, my smack, my bitch,
Right here in Hollywood,
Drug money is used to rig elections,
And train brutal corporate sponsored
Dictators around the world.
They're trying to build a prison
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison, (for you and me to live in)
Another prison system,
Another prison system,
Another prison system. (for you and me)
For you and I, for you and I , for you and I.
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
For you and me,
Oh baby, you and me.

Review about Prison Song Bravo SOAD | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/3/09
I believe they're referring to the way drugs became more prevalent in low class and working class neighborhoods during the of the 70's, following the Civil Rights Movement, particularly in the black community. You don't hear many bands saying that shit. Bravo SOAD.
The war on drugs is bullshit. If they really gave a fuck they'd declare a war on poverty.
System of a down can't be named a rebelious band like rage against the machine was. In my eyes, System of a down was four heros bringing social affairs into the public's eyes, mainly the genocides in darfur and armenia. They're a beam of hope to the turkish people, even on hiatus. And they have a point, I feel that even though President Obama might not know it I believe presitent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is employed my the U.S. C.I.A. to keep iran viewed as part of this axis of evil.

As I was reading the lyrics, I actually had my mouth open when they said about the drugs rigging elections....I said "Oh shit really?! Wow" Thats why I love listening to rebellious music...They speak the truth...not like other bands...
we can call system of a down a rebellious band right?
The war on drugs.. | Reviewer: Andrew | 11/7/08
The problem is that people really don't give a fuck. Like they said in Boom, another protest song, the bottom line is money, nobody gives a fuck! All our taxes paying for your wars
against the new non-rich, where's the money protecting the freedoms of the poor? Rich people don't really need drugs. They have money. And they mostly just profit more from the world we live in. Fuck the little guy, it'll make YOU cum is the attitude of law-making americans. This nation needs change. But until we completely fuck ourselves, we're like a frog in steadily heating water pot. We won't notice till we're already dead. FUCK THE SYSTEM PEOPLE! PLEASE! FOR YOU'RE SAKE AND MINE! O.x
This song is simply stating the truth granted i am a canadian but the goverment is totaly screwing over everyone in the states and i think that it is wrong for them to be doing that and trying to do it to all other countrys as well as my own System Of A Down has many songs like this that tell you the truth about what is happening around us yet still people dont listen....why?...is it because people think it is just music and it is there way to make sales? or is it because they are scared? every person that has actually tryed to stand up for there rights has been drafted for war...what does this tell you? the goverment knows where catching on and still try's to silence us? should we allow it to happen? NO!! .... System of a down is a truthfully amazing band and always will be
thanx for reading and remember this is just my opinion many may agree and many may think different
