Prelude/Angry Young Man Lyrics - Billy Joel

Review The Song (4)

There's a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
And He's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on his cross-
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

Give a moment or two to the angry young man,
With his foot in his mouth and his heart in his hand.
He's been stabbed in the back, he's been misunderstood,
It's a comfort to know his intentions are good.
And he sits in a room with a lock on the door,
With his maps and his medals laid out on the floor-
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

I believe I've passed the age
Of consciousness and righteous rage

I found that just surviving was a noble fight.
I once believed in causes too,
I had my pointless point of view,
And life went on no matter who was wrong or right. OHHHHHHHH

And there's always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he's never been able to learn from mistakes,
So he can't understand why his heart always breaks.
And his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell-
And he'll go to the grave as an angry old man.

There's always a place for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
And He's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on his cross-
And he likes to be known as the angry young man.

Fantastic Song! | Reviewer: Basil Hmnar | 10/12/09

This describes me perfectly. It's sad that it does but it's as if it was written about me. I never took the time to think about what I was doing but after hearing this song I'm taking a second look at my life. Thanks again Billy Joel

Amazing Piano and lyrics | Reviewer: Narumi | 1/23/09

The first thing in this song is the piano playing at the beginning. My dad tries to play this a lot, but it's so fast. It's beautiful, surely! Well, of course, he IS Billy Joel. It is to be expected.

It is very like my father's and my personality, I must admit. Turnstiles was a great album.

A Message Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/13/08

I swear this song was written about my father. He was such an angry man who definitely did not learn from his mistakes...or at least not until his final hours. He loved my mother all of his life but was too proud to admit he was wrong about so many things. I believe his medals were his 4 daughters. He was a brilliant man who had so much passion and knowledge for his heritage, however, that same pride was his prison. May he rest in peace and be set free of the hate he carried all of his life. May he now see this world in color and never feel the darkness. Thanks to Billy Joel for this song. For I will always remember my father when I hear it as I forgive his misgivings and cherish his love.

One of the best Billy Joel's songs. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/7/08

The great music of Prelude/Angry Young Man makes to forget sometimes the message in the song. Prelude/Angry Young Man is one of the best song ever written. Everyone of us, when we're young, we have pure ideas and intentions to fight by our ideals, but time is cruel. Great Song.
