Review The Song (30)Print the Lyrics
Another dream that will never come true
Just to compliment your sorrow
Another life that I've taken from you
A gift to add on to your pain and suffering
Another truth you can never believe
Has crippled you completely
All the cries you're beginning to hear
Trapped in your mind, and the sound is deafening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way I pray

Heaven just isn't hot enough
Burn me alive inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Another nightmare about to come true
Will manifest tomorrow
Another love that I've taken from you
Lost in time, on the edge of suffering
Another taste of the evil I breed
Will level you completely
Bring to life everything that you fear
Live in the dark, and the world is threatening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way I pray

heaven just isn't hot enough
Burn me alive inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away
Return to me, return to me, return to me, turn to me, leave me no one
Turn to me, return to me, return to me, turn to me, cast aside
Return to me, return to me, return to me, turn to me, leave me no one
Turn to me, return to me, return to me, you make me turn away

heaven just isn't hot enough
Burn me alive inside
Living my life's not hard enough
They take everything from you

heaven just isn't hot enough
Burn me alive inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Review about Prayer

Idiots! | Reviewer: Colin Quigley | 9/2/09

This song is about his grandfathers disapproval of his choice of career. He studied religion and was going to go to law school but he decided to leave that life to be in the band. He is tell his grandfather "This is the way I pray" as in music is the way he prays.

What is Prayer?

Prayer is a conversation with God. Thats the meaning of this song.

The person in this story is talking to God and God is speaking with him...telling him he is going to do all these things to him.

Its a lyrical interpretation of the Biblical Job
Throughout this tribulation, God is telling the man, "return to me" while the man is saying he is being "cast aside" and finally saying to God, " you made me turn away."

This is why the song is titled Prayer...because the man is talking to God...thats what prayer is whether it is good or bad...talking to God is still prayer...

Who knows... | Reviewer: Mike | 8/24/09

Who of us can definitively say that this song is or isn't about religion. Unless we know the author personaly and have asked him and received an answer, we can only speculate. Bottom line is, religious or not it rocks! Remember that music is an art form. It is a medium that can transfer a feeling or thought or emotion from the artist to the masses. I'm not sure if this song makes some people feel religious undertones but I am sure after going to 4 Disturbed conserts that it definitely gets people on their feet and screaming at the top of their lungs and moving with the beat. Religious movement, doubt it. Rock movement, Hell yes!

my god it's a good song....this, by far, is the best Disturbed song..so deep that u juz wanna hear it everytime n the lyric is blown away.. Draiman is great with his range of voice in this song...so personal!! u can feel it...

here's my thought | Reviewer: ben starr | 4/15/09

I'm not too sure about this song's meaning, but I think the idea of it all is that God is challenging the the protagonist of the story, who is David Draiman's grandfather. David wrote this song after his grandfather's passing, and in all likelihood his grandfather was a deeply religious man, and I think David himself came to feel that God was challenging him as well because of the challenges he faced in his life and developed a strong connection to his grandfather after his death because of that commonality. The song itself is modeled after the Biblical tale of Job.
It needs to be said that David Draiman is not at all religious and that he rebelled against his strict Jewish upbringing. That doesn't mean he doesn't beleive in God or has no sense of spirituality. I personally am an atheist, yet I still think highly of the lyrical content in this song. It has a very positive message, that of maintaining strength in the face of adversity, that I think is great and valuable whether you believe in God or not. Not to mention it's got a great hook and it's heavy as hell.

I know I'm being dumb... | Reviewer: ShogunD | 3/23/09

... At the point(in the video) where the building begin to fall apart, for some reason, It reminds me of ice and fire falling from the sky (on the Pharaoh's corrupt organization).
I do believe it was Exodus?

I'm sure I just murdered the story, but I don't even remember when I last read the bible. The agnostic I am.

Analysis of this song | Reviewer: Chameleon | 2/11/09

My own analysis... Many of you are right, but arguing against the others and not seeing it. Whether the song has any religion intended behind it or not is irrelevant. (I personally think it does, but again, irrelevant)

Oh, and to the comment earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if it were inspired from Job, heh.

Fact of the matter is, there are people in this world who, due to either luck, or demons, continually meet misfortune and tragedy. Everything's continually taken from them - and think on this before you jump to argue that those people just whine... How many people here saw their father murdered, and grew up with the killer? And yet there are people who get hit far, far worse than that in this world.

I agree with another comment earlier. This song isn't hopeless, although it may be bitter, I'm not certain without asking the writer. =P When you hit a streak where you are continually beaten down, one of two things happen to you..

Either you break.. Either dying inside and changing, or killing yourself..

Or you fight.. And become defiant, and determined to keep going no matter what. Many times you reach the point of shouting to send EVERYTHING at you, defiantly ready to take any attack, to see just how much more they can hurt you.. To see if you really can survive anything, or really will die.

Thus are my thoughts.

religious subject | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/6/09

of course it has to do with religion.

In the verse
"return to me return to me"it's like when god said "all my children will return to me in the kingdom of heaven" and stuff and he ansewer "cast aside!!" because he doesn't want to go with him, and then again he ansewer "you make me turn away" which means "turn your back to god"

basically the song is entirelly about that, a man losing his faith, and wondering "why should i care or believe in someone who has taken so much way from me?"

=) my thoughts

Prayer | Reviewer: Lance | 2/1/09

For the comment before about Christianity failing him, that would probably be because he is JEWISH, and was going to enter RABBINICAL SCHOOL but formed Disturbed instead. One of the best metal bands I have seen and my gateway 'drug' to heavier metal. Keep rocking guys.

Religous veiwpoints... | Reviewer: Nimrod | 1/10/09

First off, im not religious... (despite the title)

but i think i remember reading somewhere that this song was based on the story of Job. (When God tested his faith by taking everything away, Job was rich and had a great family, good health. But then his children were killed and Job was sick and lost all his money)

I think if you retell yourself this story, some of the lyrics might make a bit more sense ^^

Anyways, my opinions are just that disturbed are one of the best bands out there and prayer, down with the sickness and stricken being their best songs -

Keep going =]
