Review The Song (201)Print the Lyrics
Warm yourself by the fire, son,
And the morning will come soon.
I’ll tell you stories of a better time,
In a place that we once knew.

Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust,
We had a place that we could call home,
And a life no one could touch.

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Down!

We are the angry and the desperate,
The hungry, and the cold,
We are the ones who kept quiet,
And always did what we were told.

But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm,
In the safety of your home.
We’ve been pulling out the nails that hold up
Everything you’ve known.

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

So open your eyes child,
Let’s be on our way.
Broken windows and ashes
Are guiding the way.

Keep quiet no longer,
We’ll sing through the day,
Of the lives that we’ve lost,
And the lives we’ve reclaimed.

Go!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up…
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me up…
(I don’t need your help)
No! No! No!
Don’t hold me up!
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me up!
(I don’t need your help)
Don’t let me down, down, down, down, down!

Review about Prayer Of The Refugee

it's very clearly a song with dystopian themes; think in terms of orwell's 1984, and the type of winston and julia sort of relationship, don't let me down might as well be don't sell me out and the verses describe the yearning for a time that someone doesn't really remember and the compliance with a 'big brother' style machinelike government. religion is not a subject matter, but a parallel, calling to mind the fervor of secret defiance and underground movements.

No religious meaning whatsoever. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/13/09

There is no religious message in this song. "Prayer" is used to describe something that you desperately want or need.

This song is about the laborers in factories that are placed in extremely poor countries without wage laws.

It's also just really, really good song.

The very best song! | Reviewer: Stefan Andersson | 10/26/09

Ok, so I just watched the movie for "prayer of the refugee", and I have to say that it all became very obvious to me what the song is really about. In general it's a statement of how untenable the economic system in America is right now with it's little regard of Fair Trade products. It's also a statement of the hazards that american corporations provide when they paint the american mentality with a "we can provide for ourselves and don't really need the outside world" - color, while at the same time heavilly relying on importing products from less developed countries and the outside world. If that mentality in the end are allowed to be the general belief, that America can relly on it self, it would be extremely destructive for it's population, as they would continue living a lie and develop their society in a direction where they exclude the rest of the world. The name "Prayer of the refugee", in my opinion, is really a very intelligent way of stating that it's actually America who is the refugee, hiding from truth and the outside world. So the name could in other ways be understood as a solemn prayer for The USA, in regards of the way they're heading right now and the impact it has on less developed countries and it self.

my meaning | Reviewer: will | 10/13/09

what i belive this song is about is the fact that america espically although australia and europe are guilty of this as well saying that they are help countries by allowing them to earn a living when it is just forcing our views and customs upon them so come on lets try and withold rise against`s views and work to free the refuges from the oppression of 1st world countries [p.s i am a australian so i am not an outsider bashing 1st world coutries i just hate oppression]

Regardless of religious intent or various other philosophical views on this song, would you or wouldn't you do whatever it takes to make sure your family could survive? wouldn't you not trust anyone but yourself with the well being of your family? if you do for yourself, trust in your family, no one can possibly let you down. Make sense?

Human Rights | Reviewer: Koga001 | 9/28/09

C'mon guys, the message is fucking explicit.

The song's about how USA creates multinational companies in countries other than USA, where there are weak laboral laws, they pay less to the employees and don't have to give them so many rights, and then just put a fake Made in the USA stamp or anything when it is really made in Mexico or Puerto Rico.

Just my thoughts on the song | Reviewer: Angel | 9/26/09

Unlike some of the comments I skimmed saying about the song being religious, have any of you seen the video? To me, this song is about how the USA shouldn't be getting support by all the other countries and that we should be able to make our own products and support ourselves because we're suppose to be such a great country. Not saying I agree with that or not, but that's what I got out of watching the video.

Otherwise, I just have to say bottom line, I really like this song, the guitar sounds awesome in it.

Religion Is Not Everything | Reviewer: Soul Purge | 8/26/09

I really hate sounding like a broken record, especially when so many people have made valid points on the matter, but there are some people have to get off of their religious high-horses long enough to appreciate a really good song. Now, I do not claim to know what this song was intended to mean, but it is one of the best songs I have ever heard and that is all that matters. Instead of arguing over religious symbolism, we should come together as fans of this masterpiece.

Wow | Reviewer: Anon | 8/23/09

First off, this is a great song.
And second,
WHY THE HELL would you preach on a song like this.
Maybe it has some views someone views as Christian, but still. We don't need a whole damn sermon over this shit.

Firstly, DJCC, I don't care if English isn't your first language, but you're illiterate. Post on a board in your own language, because this just makes you seem like a tool. Also, on a side note, if English -is- your first language, then you have some serious catching up to do in the evolutionary chain.

I can't believe that prayerwarrior is PREACHING on this . . . That astounds me. Also, don't thank your "god" for bringing soldiers home from war and keeping them safe. How about you start thanking the soldiers themselves for risking their lives so that you can live your biggoted, blind life?

Great song.
