Review The Song (146)Print the Lyrics
Warm yourself by the fire, son,
And the morning will come soon.
I’ll tell you stories of a better time,
In a place that we once knew.

Before we packed our bags
And left all this behind us in the dust,
We had a place that we could call home,
And a life no one could touch.

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You won't let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Down!

We are the angry and the desperate,
The hungry, and the cold,
We are the ones who kept quiet,
And always did what we were told.

But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm,
In the safety of your home.
We’ve been pulling out the nails that hold up
Everything you’ve known.

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

So open your eyes child,
Let’s be on our way.
Broken windows and ashes
Are guiding the way.

Keep quiet no longer,
We’ll sing through the day,
Of the lives that we’ve lost,
And the lives we’ve reclaimed.

Go!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up now,
I can stand my own ground,
I don’t need your help now,
You will let me down, down, down!

Don’t hold me up…
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me up…
(I don’t need your help)
No! No! No!
Don’t hold me up!
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me up!
(I don’t need your help, I’ll stand my ground)
Don’t hold me down, down, down, down, down!

Review about Prayer Of The Refugee

One of the most amazing songs I`ve ever heard. | Reviewer: Jillian | 7/20/2008
They amaze me with their lyrics and the changing tempos of the song. I had tears in my eyes at the end of the song, and the video is....wow....it made me think of how we Americans live our lives floating in the clouds while other countries work their asses off to make our little precious paradise. Amazing band. Completely amazing.

People who found an interest and love of Rise Against through Guitar Hero, congratulations. But for those of you who ONLY listen to the Prayer of the Refugee ONLY when you're playing it on Guitar Hero, go broaden your horizons. Rise Against is an amazing band, even their early, less polished stuff. However, if you're judging this band on one song, even if that song is amazing and your judgement is correct, you should really just shut the hell up.

    <3 the song. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/17/2008

It is so sad that people are forced into situations in which their homes are unsafe. It is so sad that children are forced to work in unfair conditions for unfair wages, and that they are the main source of drug trafficking in countries such as Colombia, the main exporter of cocaine and heroine. But we live in a supply-demand economy. And as long as there is a demand, there will always be a need to produce it-and this duty sadly falls on children. So what's being done? Bush attempted to pass laws banning the import of child-made goods. Thanks Bush, you just starved millions of children working for those wages to feed themselves and their families and had another couple million shot to death by paramilitary for refusing to traffic drugs. Only money aid would help allowing the children to escape, and a little more than the $2 million we currently offered in comparison to the $200 billion spent on the Iraq war is necessary. I love this song for revealing a problem we largely ignore.

    This song's great | Reviewer: Nick | 7/14/2008

I heard this song on guitar hero and it was a hell of a tune. ive never really even heard any rise against songs until i heard prayer of the refugee. It has been stuck in my head ever since ive heard it. For some odd reason it reminds me of call of duty 4 probably because when my friends got guitar hero we also played call of duty 4 online right after. i also love the american theme in the vid.

    hidden message!! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/30/2008

this really is a great song right. but if u listen to the words and really think about it u will notice that they are representing all the third world countries and how because of them and the crap-ass deal the western world cut them they suffer and make things like shoes and other stuff while we have been reaping the rewards (their our slaves and its wrong)....they really are "sweating while we've slept so calm in the saftey of our home"

Yeah, I didn't like any song with guitar in it before this song.
I was "Gangsta" and all tricked out with 50 cent and snoop "dogg".

I was at a party awhile back, and this song was being played on guitar hero.
It such a strong song, I ditched my soljia boy glasses for a bass, and currently in a punk rawk band. This song is really awesome, and for anyone who thinks im not a real fan, or "mall punk", I'll nail your balls to a tree stump. Bitchz.

What im trying to get across is, if you don't like new fans, don't complain about people that listen to TI and Jay-z, and call there music shitty, and in the same breathe call all the new fans " Fake fans". What the fuck do you want?

Your Prayers Have Been answered!! | Reviewer: kar105s | 5/1/2008

Prayer Of the Refugee is another smash hit in my personal opinion by Rise Against. The Punk/Hardcore melodic band from Chicago Stands strong against the injustices of our society, and the unfairness of our Government. Though repetetive at points, it is still a great listen. I have owned their albulm The Sufferer & the witness since its debut in 2006 and still today in 2008 cannot stop listening and loving this song. I give this song a 9 out of ten.
