The cup is not half empty as pessimists say
as far as he sees nothing's left in the cup
A whole cup full of nothing for him to indulge
since the voice of ambition has long since been shut up
A singer, a writer,
he's not dreaming now of going nowhere
he gave heed to nothing
and all that he was is just a tragedy
So he voyages in circles succeeds getting nowhere
and submits to the substance that first got him there, there, there, there
then in violent, frustration
he cries out to God or just no one
is there a point to this madness
and all that he was is just a tragedy
He feels alone
His heart in his hands, he's alone
He feels alone
I feel
Then on that last day he breaks
and he stood tall
then he yelled, and he yelled
{why world, why world, hate you, hate you, bye world}
violent frustration
he cries out to God or just no one
is there a point to this madness
and all that he was is just a tragedy

Review about Poetic Tragedy The Used means alot to me. | Reviewer: Caitlin Spencer | 10/31/09
The Used just by their self means so much to me. But this one specific song is so improtant to my life. My sister age of 17 who passed away last February and, she was a huge fan of The Used. And this song was played at her funeral...
I love this song but I have always had an issue with the posted lyrics... Every website that posts the lyrics says "...and he takes his life". I have listened to the song a thousand times and I can't find this part. To me it sounds like he says "then he yells, and he yells" or "then he yells" and then something else with three syllables. Can anyone actually hear him say the words "and he takes his life" or is that what is written in the official cd jacket or something?

I never really liked the used, but i heard this song, and had to get the lyrics because some parts are hard to hear.
If i could play something at my funeral, if i could decide to play music over having a eulogy, it would be this song. I relate to it so much, its not even normal.
Amazing song

This song is just amazing! Every time I hear it, I can't help but relate.
I heard it's about Kurt Cobain. It fits, if that is who it's really about. However, even if it's about something completely different, I still like to think that's who it's describing.
Music is about how you interpret it, no matter what it was written about.
How do you report errors in the lyrics? | Reviewer: Molly | 8/5/08
I noticed that some lines were wrong.
Where it says 'he heeds to' it is supposed to say 'gave heed to' and where it says 'He's trying to save his life, he feels like' it's supposed to say 'his heart in his hands, he's alone, he feels alone...' which sounds nothing like what these lyrics say.
It's in the real handbook.
Just had to point these out.
I fuckin' love the Used so much, and this song is so touching.
I think the lyrics are wrong.. i'm pretty sure he says "He feels Alone, His heart in his hands he's alone. He feels alone. I feel...
As if hes trying to tell u that the song is about him not the way he feels.
although this song is sad i still love it. i first heard it in the movie grind then i started loveing it and never stopped. <3 and it reminds me of the lead singer of nirvana to =[ but i still love the used!<3

hey, has anyone else noticed that this song kinda sounds like kurt cobain, lead singer of nirvana that comitted suicide or was mudered or whatever. that's why this song is so sad for me, it reminds me of kurt. T.T i still love this song, though. the used forever!!!!! :)
